God I love how cheap good notebooks are these days.

    • Even better considering Windows 8 will use less resources than W7!

  • What card does it have papi?

    • integrated ;~

      papi?

A slang term that is similar in affect to Daddy in the phrase "Who's your Daddy?!" Often given by women to their boyfriends/husbands or to their sex partner. It is most often used during intercourse, but is also just used as a pet name. During intercourse it can be used to describe both pain or pleasure. For example "AI! Papi!" with emphasis on the Ai could be used when it is hurting, while "Ai papi!" or "Oh papi!" could indicate pleasure. - Urban Dictionary

So, yeah. I wouldn't want to speculate as to wickedwill's relationship with the CC rep.

      • Mmmm … I choose this login as a joke because I'm a single Dad - probably should have researched it first !

    • Not the same model, although the specs look similar.

  • This seems to be a basic i7 model considering there is no USB 3.0 and has integrated graphics only. The previous bargain from WOW (Acer $799 + $129 cashback) was easily a better bargain.

  • What is screen res ? Anything below 1650x1050 is a no go for me..

    • +10

Then pretty much every laptop <17" is a no go for you mate.

        • how about MacBook Pro 15"? Yeah right vote me down, you know you want it.

  • Can you confirm if win7 is 64 bit?

    • Yes it is 64Bit

  • Why the hell is 1366x768 the norm nowadays? Such a crappy resolution, especially for a 15.6".

I guess you can't complain about the price though.

    • Agreed! 15+" need to be 1680x1050 at the minimum with option for 1920x1200.

Even my 14" comes with a 1440x900 screen, 1366x768 for a 15.6" is pretty crap! Otherwise very decent laptop at this price.

I would like to disagree, I got a 1920 x 1080 screen on a 15 incher and EVERYTHING IS too SMALL. I had to turn the DPI up to 150% which solved the problem, however most of my games and some programs are screwed up on that dpi setting, ( Call of Duty 4 , SC 2 , MW2 , Unigine , ) and I have go into properties and disable the dpi scalling option for them to work properly and even then , disable the dpi scalling somehow makes ingame chat font look fuzzy but the graphics are fine.

If anyone can give me a solution it would be much appreciated.

BTW this is on a Metabox P150HM with a ATI6990M but i doubt any of the specs matter.

        • +1

What exactly is so small? You can increase the size of windows fonts, and webpages and just about everything else when you need to.

        • @scynaz If you're used to using a (for example) 22" Full HD monitor, having the same amount of pixels in less than 70% of the diagonal space will make everything look smaller. Having to zoom in to read text etc defeats the very purpose of having those extra pixels.

        • this is funny. A man who can run 100m in 7 sec doesn't need to maintain that speed in normal life…it just shows its capacity when needed.
can't you adjust it to a lower res if you don't like it?

        • I think a fair trade off is 1440x900.

    • many people who buy cheap laptops are students who tend to play a game or two.
if you read the full system specs, this laptop comes with HD Graphics 3000 which would struggle to manage games even at 1280 x 720 on very low settings which would defeat to purpose of buying it to play games.

And you can't even upgrade if you have integrated graphics, so the low screen resolution is a deliberate decision.

      • You realize that you can change the resolution on the software side, right?

That's a completely silly and far-fetched assumption that just because it's a cheap laptop it's main consumer is students who play games.

And either way, that is a stupid way to make the laptop 'better'. Lowering to less superior hardware on a laptop to achieve things the laptop is not designed to do.

Also, i've seen $2000 15" laptops with dedicated graphics and powerful processors with a 1366x768 resolution, so that kinda throws that idea out the window.

        • the ability to change the resolution of the screen through software is not helpful for gaming.

many people with normal vision do not enjoy running a 1080p screen at a much lower resolution, that is a fact. in consumer laptops, fitting systems with 1080p screens limits the multimedia/gaming value of the system if the GPU is not truly high end dedicated graphics.

That's why, the deals posted on this site for the HP DV6 6023tx and variants are so much more popular and it has a 1366x768 screen - so considering those deals have racked up nearly 10 times the number of votes in the past few weeks, I think it challenges your view about who the main consumers truly are who these type of laptops.

  • -1

nothing good about this deal imo, no dedicated graphics + no free ship = fail

  • -7

Not a good deal at all with no graphics card.

    • +2

A graphics card isn't essential for all users, especially at this price point.

      • -3

Down vote all you like. A laptop with those specs is not a bargain at that price.

        • what pricepoint are you looking for in a Sandy bridge quadcore i7?

Same price point with 2 gig Dedicated Graphics card and USB 3.0

Sorry I forgot to mention reputable companies only.
I rather buy this Asus than risk an Acer, no matter how much the quality has been improved, my 3 year old Asus is going strong. It's been tossed onto crapets and fallen out of reversing car, no damage at all.

spawnpoint, I hope it didn't damage your "crapet" =P
