I got this pack from Officeworks on the weekend. I got them to pricematch Tecobuy which has them for $339 incl. delivery. With the 5% off it came to $322. Not the best price for these but not bad.

    • You got lucky the OW person was not experienced that tecobuy is grey import. Usually they won't price match.

    • which OW post the inovice pleae

    Wat is this thingie?

Also, does it have to be Google? This company just about has all the information it could ever want in anybody (that includes me, warts and all) on any part of the planet. Give it to some other company say, Huawei or whomever. Spread it around and have a fair playing field.

    • A wifi router with a built in Nest mini.

I'm still waiting for Wifi6 on the Google product line before upgrading.

    • Meh, I was in the same boat but decided to pull the trigger anyway as at least in my place anything that requires real throughput it getting a Cat6 line. It's really only for portable devices and I can't see Wifi6 being a necessity when these units can push 400+mbs over decent distances. That's nearly the speed of an std SSD anyway.

Same deal available on the Google Store - and I believe free delivery (though please double check the delivery part).

  • Noob Qs :
I have existing Huawei router provided by my RSP which does DHCP routing , I have connected 4 Eth port to different devices i.e TV , Shield Pro , Apple TV and NVR and also using this Huawei for Wifi network in my house .

    Current challanges are :

I have few black wifi spots in my house

existing router is sometimes struggling from AP point of view as I have put many smart devices in my house which work via my home wifi nw

So if i put this google nest solution in my home :

Do I have to disable DHCP routing + Wifi in my existing router both

or just disabling wifi in eixsting huawei router will ( mapping existing SSID setting on google wifi) and google wifi is going to manage devices via its own DHCP and Huawei router will keep my wired connectivity up via its own DHCP routing

    • What kind of NBN? FTTP, FTTC, FTTN, FTTB or HFC?

      Is TPG your ISP?

      • NBN-FTTP-Dodo

        • With Dodo you disable the Huawei wireless signal. Dodo use VLAN tag 802.1q of 100 and Nest wifi doesn't have this function. If you ever give Dodo the bird and go to Telstra or Aussie Broadband you install one of the Nest wifi to the NBN connection device and the Huawei router is not used.

          • @Twix: Hey Twix :)

I'm with Optus NBN HFC which came with a wifi sagemcom modem, how would my set up look like if I was to purchase the nest wifi?

            • @JamesSyd: NBN connection device —-> Nest wifi base —-> Nest wifi point.

    • Hi bzybee, I recently bought the 3 pack of the Google Nest Wifi. I disabled the wifi on my existing router as I wanted my wifi devices around the home to use specifically the Google Nest APs. An added advantage is that I can use the Google Wifi app on my phone to control the APs or just look up which devices are connected.

I also turned off the DHCP routing on my ISP provided modem\router to the devices in my house, it is handled by the Google Nest APs. I can also set reservations should I need a device in the house to stay at a static IP. I can also set priority for devices which needs the throughput. It's all done the the Google wifi app.

Note: Google Nest Wifi doesn't support some older devices which use older wifi encryption methods (WPA and WEP) due to the security vulnerabilities.

I am very happy with the coverage that the APs give me. I thought because I have a longish house I would need 3 APs, but after testing I could have gotten away with 2 instead.

      • HI FreakSource

        Thanks for sharing this

Since I have got 4 wired devices on existing router how can I connect those as wired on Nest wifi solution
Seems by adding another switch to Nest Router eth port ?

        • sorry, just saw you had wired connections connected to the router. I would keep your Huawei router to handle the wired connections and just have google APs handle the Wifi. Maybe just set a small range of IPs (eg. 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.10) which the Huawei router can give out via DHCP. Then set the Google Wifi to give out the rest of that range (eg 192.168.0.11 to 192.168.0.255). Because the IPs don't overlap there won't be any conflicts in giving the same IP to different devices. You should be able to configure these settings under your LAN management section on your Huawei router and under Advanced Networking\LAN on the google wifi app.

Yeah you can hook up a switch to Nest wifi.

          • +1

@Twix: This is what I do. 1 port from NTD to Nest and 1 port from Switch to Nest.

  • I have the Gen 1… it keeps booting me off the work VPN for some reason… even my phone tethering is more consistent.

Need a $300 or less deal for tax deduction purposes.

Looks like Bing Lee are also selling for $349 for the next 3 days.

Anyone know where you can find a stand alone point (not the router) and how much they are? I had a search but couldn't find them by themselves.

      • Bummer, was hoping this deal + a separate point (349 + 200) would work out cheaper than the router + 2 point pack (449 on google). Cheers.

    • Nest point $229 @ JB online only order.

      $191 gg commercial

      • Do they have them for sale again? Or was that the price they were selling at a couple months ago?

        • +1

They have the base unit available for $191 on TGGC.

  • Annoying that these don't have ethernet or wifi6

  • For Google One users suggest buying from Google Store to bundle up store credit savings depending on the plan.

  • Will Officework price beat Google online?

    • They do! I ended up getting the 3 pack (router + 2 points) by getting officeworks to price match the google store.

      • Cool

  • Any issues with using the gen2 router connected to NBN and then using gen1 as extensions? I currently have gen1s connected to my NBN

    • Nest wifi is backwards compatible. You can swap out or add Nest wifi to your existing Google wifi setup.

  • Good deal. I saw this too late.
