  • At that size 4k would look better i suppose. This one is 1440p.

    • +12

At this res/size it's the exact same ppi as a FHD at 24", if that helps give a reference for "sharpness".

    • +1

You're not going to get a 4k with these refresh rates.
Good luck getting a PC that will get 165fps on high settings @ 1440p, let alone 4k.

  • Max Resolution & Refresh Rate 2560x1440 @ 165Hz, FreeSync 2 HDR: 48-165Hz
    Native Color Depth & Gamut 10-bit (8-bit+FRC) / DCI-P3, DisplayHDR 400, HDR10
    Response Time (GTG) 4ms
Brightness 350 nits SDR; 450 nits HDR

    VA sure but that 165hz

    • -4

Ooph. But that VA. For $700…this is for those that really JUST play twitch games haha

  • -5

Pay a bit more to get bigger size and 4k?

    Samsung 34" Flat Ultra WQHD Monitor,LS34J550 https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07PLM68XY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i…

    • +2

I'm pretty sure this Dell is geared toward gamers. 1440p and 165hz are the key selling points.

      • +1

Oh got it. I did not play much these days.

    • +2

      It's only 75Hz refresh…

      • +1

        No it's 165 hz.

        Source: i have one

        • +3

I think he meant the Samsung ls34j550 mentioned above only has 75hz refresh rate.

    • -1

      Not 4k but okay.

  • Good alternative to the LG 27GL850 if you want a bit bigger monitor for that resolution (I know a few people find it hard to read text on 27" 1440p so yeah…) and/or prefer the high contrast of VA for watching movies.

    • -2

Oh contrast. I can read haha. I'd aim for a HDR spec, but yeah valid point.

      • Yeah I tried a couple of VA monitors before settled on the Acer X34P, the VA panel does look better when watching movies, darker black and brighter light sources in dark scenes. Darker games also look better on VA too. But IPS handles fast motion actions much better so I chose the X34P.

Edit: this one also have HDR and DCI-P3 coverage so it's actually a lot better than the usual cheap VA monitors around $500 price point.

    • Hard because of scaling making the text too small?

      • Yeah, when I first moved from 24" FHD to 27" QHD (92ppi vs 110 ppi) it took me couple of weeks to adjust to the smaller text. I still find myself zooming in to read text sometimes during coding or writing documents. I don't want to increase the text scaling as it also increase the size of all other window elements, leaving me with less actual workspace.

        • Didn't think of scaling at first so I somehow thought the sharper text was harder and got hella confused.

    • I would have thought a better comparison would be to the LG 32GK650F-B, a 32", 1440p, 144hz VA panel at $550

      • +2

That one doesn't have HDR and DCI-P3 color space though, so not really comparable spec wise.

        • Ah, somehow missed the Dell being 10bit color and the LG only being 8!

    • +2

Yep grabbed one of these Dells, good price in my opinion (RRP $1k), and the usual Dell quality (solid stand with lot of adjustment/IOs like an IPS panel, high contrast ratio, ie no washed out picture or light bleed, the resolution and refresh rates are good for this size. Sure, a 144hz 27" may be a bit snappier for games but like the extra real-estate and could use as a tv in bed room etc. 3y warranty as well.

Was a tough decision as I was also considering the LG 34in UWFHD IPS 144hz Curved FreeSync Gaming Monitor (34GL750-B), but as you it someone else pointed out 2k resolution on that monitor may be a bit low, and paying top covid price at ($800, I'm sure they were way cheaper last year), not a fan of some of the gaming monitor colour schemes. That one looks pretty study but some brands are quite flimsy and can wobble around. 4k ultrawide 34 still too expensive end up paying another 500$ again.

I tested out a 32" flat screen and feels weird or harder to look at so the curved screen should be good, probably have to sit back a bit more either way

Anyway should be pretty good overall, already shipped the same day. I'm just after something for some casual gaming and bit of office use. I've got 2x24" ultrasharps for work productivity which are great but can't imagine gaming or anything, and only WFH one day a week now.

normal price is above $900 and I believe at this price it is best bang for buck!

Used to be $511 in Feb apparently from the Good guys (based on PriceHipster)

Purchased Mine For Around $550 with Cash Back when this Monitor was first released From Dell Directly, This is a good Price too.

Love the fact that it's curved don't think i'd go back at this screen size.

Haven't noticed any problems or viewing angle Problems personally i sit about 40cm away from the screen.

  • How would the Gigabyte G32QC at $599 compare to this?

  • +1

Great monitor for all but the most hardcore fps gamers, I get by ok but it's a little slow. Not recommended for Tarkov/dark game players due to the slow dark transitions.

Ooh so tempted.. Ozbargain, what are you doing to me

  • Looks like a good price, would this be a good option for hooking with my macbook for office use. Appreciate any comments thanks.

    • Not the best as there is no thunderbolt or usb c.

      • Thanks, whats the benefit of having thundeerbolt or usb c??

        • Well it depends on the model of your macbook.

If your macbook has thunderbolt 3/usb c you can use one cable to plug into the monitor.

This one cable will both charge the laptop and display video to the screen.

This screen doesn't have either thunderbolt or usb c. So you would need to plug the macbook into a charger AND get an adaptor to connect the laptop to the monitor.

          • @Circly: I see, sorry I was still using old monitor which needs both cable connecting to macbook as well as power cord for monitor itself.

Can anyone recommend a dp 1.4 cable From Amazon, good build quality, latches and about 6' /2m..?

  • Similar specs/price to the Xiaomi posted a week ago
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/542806

Easier warranty process for this and I'd trust the dell screen quality more than Xiaomi's first attempt.

    • +1

And I bought it. Looking forward to it and will provide reviews when I get it.

I will be using it to do office work using the split screen feature.

  • Do you know if The Good Guys would price match this?

    • Ask :$

A hard no from the Cranbourne Store today. Lowest they could do was $850

  • Got one for myself, its out of stock on Amazon AU now.

    • It got delivered today and I am loving it. Glad I made this choice, highly highly recommended. It has numerous USB and other connection ports too!

      • wow, i was in two minds for a long time, whether or not to order this one, go with a USB-C, am i going overboard etc etc. Auspost shows mine is still stuck at Chullora NSW, i am based in Brisbane, hopefully shows up tomorrow.

Are you using a mount or just using the monitor stand?

        • Just the stand:)
