    Good price. Amazing device.

The only advantage the 2015 4th gen has, is the remote. As for amazing, it's okay. The Shield 2019 (if you can get it for the same price…) is competitive.

I gave my atv 4k to my stepbrother for Netflix and Disney+, the shield is slightly better IMO, but its an apples / oranges comparison.

The prices are also arguably extortionate for a product without the same warranty as retail, which for Apple… Is on par.

      $180/$210/$240… For a refurb atv

      versus $209/$249/$289 at JB. A month ago, the 4k 32gb was $199

It's only $30-$40 more for the 4k version which will last longer before it's orphaned by Apple tvOS updates.

The persistent rumour is that there is a newer Apple TV coming with eARC and HDMI 2.1 support, as well as the new compression codecs for 8k when Apple finally chooses which codec and license to use for 4k and 8k HDR.

Pay the extra $30 for the 4K.

Pay $100 less for a VTV.

I haven’t tried Vodafone TV but quick look at reviews shows no Amazon Prime, SBS, Disney+ or obviously Apple+. Also no HDR… Apple TV is more expensive but if you’re using it every day I’d say it’s worth it.

Pay $100 less for a VTV.

Not saying this deal is a bargain but you can't compare to VTV just because it costs less. Apple TV is also a Home Hub (if you have Apple Home devices) and a games console (the controller is a motion controller, it's great for playing Apple App games like Dance Now).

      • You're right, both devices have unmatched features.
The VTV plays FTA TV, has Chromecast (4K) support, upgradable external storage and can use USB/BT game controllers for games from the Play store.

Not a good price from tight ass Apple for refurb, can get 4h gen 64gb new for $189 c&c/+ shipping, other week the 32gb 4th gen was new $159 but sold out

      School locker is OOS

      • -2

now it's OOS, was in stock when posted, also have to remember it's almost 5 year old device, price apple is asking for refurb is a joke

  • +1

Usual warning, this has a four year old apple chip in it. the 4K apple TV has a two year old chip in it. they are both great processors but if you want the box to last beyond your next tv upgrade then buy the 4k version, or buy this cheap one and get whatever replaces the 4k version later.

Wait - a new one will drop at WWDC 2020

(in 2 weeks) rumours have it that they’re waiting ready to ship..

  • I upvoted because i think it's the cheapest around atm. I don't really differentiate between new or refurb from apple because they're very good refurbs and carry the same warranty as new .

But, it doesn't look like the refurbs come with the 1yr free AppleTV+ subscription. That's a cost of $7.99/month so worth considering (not necessarily $7.99 value cos ATV+ generally sucks).

    • anyone know if the 1yr Free AppleTV+ subscription stacks?

am looking at getting 2 apple TV's for the in laws.

      Thanks

  • Anyone who uses Apple TV- is there a way to stream torrents from my PC to the device? Any recommendations?
I have an old ATV3 I picked up recently I want to try and use for that purpose.
I’d be interested in a new ATV when they’re released to be a home hub. Then the ATV3 will go in the bedroom (if it can stream files from my pc)

    • Not exactly, but you can install VLC and upload your video file to play it.

The app runs a web server, you put the address in your browser and upload.

Works reasonably well but maybe not the slick experience you are looking for.

I use Air Video HD https://airvideo.app/ which works seamlessly for torrents from the mac to the apple tv. Just had a play around with it for PC as a test and cant get it to work for some reason. Plex could be an option for you.
