  • Will they ever go back to discounted gift cards than reward points?

    • I’d like to know as well.

      Any insights @HamBoi69?
      Especially around switch 2 launch?

      • +1

Unfortunately, I can't offer any insight.

Isn't it basically the same thing if you are going to shop at woolies in the near future anyway? You can even use the points to buy another Apple gift card a few minutes later.
I'd like to see Visa and Mastercard offers so I can pay my ato bill instead of these frequent Apple gift cards offers.

    • soon. keep waiting.

  • Thanks OP

  • I really miss the days when I could use my woolies gift cards to buy these :(

    • +2

If you have Special Gift Cards, you could still do it. Amex and NAB usually have 10% cash back offer for Special.

      • More info on this please?

  • I wish these type of deals were on offer a little later for WWDC. Would get some to get the new Airpods Pro 3's if they announce it, but don't wanna hold onto apple gift cards for longer than a couple weeks

    • +2

Based on the timings last year, there is usually a blackout period when new apple products are released.

Having said that, if you get some gift cards now, you can add them to your iCloud account and use that balance to pay for the new AirPods.

      • Well that's what i'm saying like I would get some now but if it was near WWDC i could at least know that new airpods are coming, even if later in the year and keep it for then

    • +2

I always have a revolving stash that can be used as needed as I know I will spend the funds sooner or later

    • +2

I usually load the gift cards balance into my Apple acount immediately after the purchase. That way you know it's there.

      • Yeah that is good but more meant like I dont want to put my money into Apple gift cards until i need it otherwise its just sitting there cant use it y'know

Just wondering with all the recent reports of gift card tampering and theft, what’s the safest way to buy Apple Gift Cards in-store? Would it be safer to buy from the dedicated gift card counter (if the store has one), rather than from the shelves in the aisles? Any tips to avoid getting a compromised card? Cheers.

I got a couple of variable load cards when they were on the stand when there was no bonus on a few weeks ago. When I got them home I checked them to make sure they were not tampered (use the FAQ above) and will take them back to get the bonus reward points when they are available. I did it last time and the cashier asked asked me why they were open and I said I checked it to make sure it wasn't modified and they were fine with it as they had had a lot of complaints.

You're removing the gift cards from the store without purchasing them? Like the people who tamper them do? I get that you're not doing it for nefarious purposes, but I'm not sure this is the right way to go about it. You could open them and check for tampering prior to purchase in the store, no?

Not sure if it's the most efficient way, but I usually load the gift cards balance into my Apple acount immediately after the purchase, while I'm still in Woolies store (ideally under a store camera). That way if there's any issues, I could just speak to the staff straight away, and they can check surveillance if they wish.

I just tried to buy a $30 card on Sunday at Coles, first time buying the new version. Was going to take the card out to check that nothing was tampered with but then the card failed to activate and I was taken to the service counter to get it refunded.

If they have some behind the counter, that's the safest bet. Tell the staff you'll be opening it up on the spot since there's a lot of issues with these gift cards so they can be witness. Otherwise, I would recommend ripping open the packaging and confirming the gift card is ok in store, prior to purchasing if possible.

Honestly, it's easy to see how the original design was tampered with, but I'm struggling to see how people are tampering with the new ones. All the edges are pretty firmly stamped shut, the activation code is now on the gift card, and you have to rip the packaging to reveal it.

    • Any tips to avoid getting a compromised card?

Always open Apple gift cards before you pay for them to check for signs of tampering. You'll want to carefully inspect the redemption code as sometimes the tampering can be as subtle as modifying one character to look like another (e.g. a Z becomes a 7, an L becomes an I and so on). If everything appears in order, you can then purchase and immediately redeem your gift cards.

I brought $2,000 Worth of these cards and all were tampered with. Woolworths fixed it but took a few days. Not worth the trouble

    • I brought $2,000 Worth of these cards

Where did you bring them to?

What to use the gift cards on?

    • +1

      Samsung devices. :)

      • The ATO takes them and the bonus, there's no CC fee! I pay my tax every few week over the phone, it's so easy!

Bought 3 x $500 variable load cards from WW last deal. All got tempered. Took a week to receive refund.
Bought again $1500 worth of value from Coles last week with $100 & $200 cards. All redeemed instantly at store successfully.
After assisted checkout staff tears the barcode tab and scan, I requested to check the card serial number started with GCA to make sure there is 13 number after that before payment. (the WW card tempered has only 8 digits after GCA)
I notice the Apple giftcards bought at Coles has all serial number, barcode, text printed in smaller text size than those ones from WW last time. Not sure if Coles has new a batch. I have photos of these cards for comparison, PM if interested.
So I guess it is your luck at the end of the day :).
    Good luck.

    • Variable card should have 16 digit

I want to buy some. But based on the comments it’s not worth the risk at the moment.

So what if you plan to purchase these gift cards for the September Apple product releases? In this case you are not redeeming the gift cards immediately so you won't find out if they've been tampered with until a few months later?

    • Redeem them now and transfer to Apple Account?

  • I got version 2 of the gift cards but there looks to be a silver sticker over it. Is it suppose to be a scratch off on the code?
