20% off Microsoft Surface Pro 7/Pro X/Laptop 3 (e.g. Surface Pro 7 i3 128GB $999) + Delivery or Free C&C @ JB Hi-Fi

850

Got an email from JB this morning with a straight 20% off the Surface Pro range. Looks like some great pricing.

Email says it expires 5 July. Link to it from the banner on front of the JB site. (I can’t post the direct link here as the OB system detects its the same as a deal that expires back in May.)

I forgot to add initially that many discount and loyalty programs offer up to 5% off JB gift cards, so check yours and you could save a bit more.

Similar if not the same deal running at Harvey Norman (if you have gift cards there).

    • It is. My thought is MS are probably running these models out in preparation for a refresh of the line.

Pro 7, Pro X and laptop 3 are relatively new

        • +1

I believe the pro 8 is scheduled for release in either June (now) or October this year based on their previous release cycles. Rumour has it Covid has impacted the ability to release in June so likely later this year or even push into next year.

      • I wouldn't read into it, I was after a SP7 & X for a long while so was watching them closely when they launched. These have been on sale quite regularly since launch, with up to 20% off.

    • +7

Would rather go JB than Harvey Norman

      • That's right if you don't mind that your order may be cancelled after the deal has finished go with HN

      • Agree. HN are way snakey sales types.

spend with Amex deal from Microsoft ($80 saving for over $400 spend)

    • Some prices are only 15% off at Microsoft.

      • +4

I think you can get them to price match

        • Microsoft price match jb hifi. Does anyone have a link to Amex deal?

          • @hypnOtixx: This is the deal post but if it's not on your Amex, then you can't use it. Furthermore, it seems the Microsoft store in Pitt Street Mall is still closed, so online only for now.

            • +2

@kerfuffle: Can confirm Pitt St Mall MS store is closed. Tried to go twice this week without success.

            • @kerfuffle: Bummer, i was just about to head out to MS store on Pitt st.
Which other (jb?) store might have a decent variety of Surfaces in Sydney?
My partner wants to upgrade from her old MBP and wants to see what Surface/Dell/Lenovo screens look like compared to MBP.

@maiuspala: The one in Strand Arcade or the one in Westfield Sydney … unless you live in the city, try your local JB Hi-Fi

          • +1

@hypnOtixx: Microsoft just denied price matching from JB HiFi.

"Upon checking our resources here, we do not process price match for this. The price we have on the website is what we currently offer, which already has a 15% discount."

  • I want to buy a surface laptop 3 Should I Buy an Extended Warranty? or it's not necessary

    • +2

Extended warranties will apply in addition to your consumer warranties under the ACL. JB HI FI have a guide on this if you look it up on Google (I'm out at the moment).

I would assume a $1500 laptop under ACL would have a 2 year warranty. If the extended warranty applies beyond that (and make sure you read what it applies to) then it may be worth it.

Express warranties provided by a supplier may come with additional bonuses too (such as loaner devices etc) and may apply for other warranties outside that noted under the ACL.

    • +1

I would recommend you do if you can, imo Surface products have their fair share of issues and I wouldn't buy one without a big warranty. You can take your chances with the ACL but Microsoft's warranty is pretty good and quick to replace broken devices.

      • +1

I got a 2 year warranty standard on my surface book bought from microsoft ebay, definitely came in handy since i went through two replacements. Not sure if these models also have 2 year warranty. Great device when it isn't broken, replacement under warranty was relatively quick and painless.

        • +1

Yeah, my current Surface Laptop 1 works perfectly but i'm very glad I have the extended 3 year warranty. Had too many weird issues with Surfaces in the past.

    • +1

I've had good experiences with Jb-Hifi warranties. Last two laptops conked it around the 3 year mark. Got a full credit towards new device both times. They even give you a credit for the amount you paid for the warranty. No questions asked, just had to wait 2/3 weeks for the manufacturer to confirm the device was faulty.

    • +1

Yeah I would. I've had about 3 that developed issues on me right after warranty.

    • I've had my Surface Laptop for nearly 2 years, the only issue has been 2 failed power supplies. Bother replaced by Microsoft.

These laptops are so great. If there's better laptops out there in their class, I'd like to know what they are.

  • Similar deals direct from Microsoft with free shipping

    • And 60 returns for change of mind at the moment which is very generous considering dell, Lenovo etc allow no returns for change of mind without charging huge restocking fees

  • Dumb question: looking to buy the 15" 16GB Surface Laptop 3 to replace my eight-year-old VAIO. Should I buy it now or buy it between July 1 and July 5? I have enough deductions and VAIO still technically works, so I can afford to wait until FY20-21

    • +1

Generally items over $300 requires depreciation - so the depreciation of an item across half a month would be quite minimal.
(I'm not providing tax advice - just a general observation)

      • Yeah, another accountant mate of mine said the same thing. Gonna wait until next month to buy it before the sale ends. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question! :)

  • +6

    The i3 has 4GB RAM. Ewww…unforgiveable in a PC in 2020.

While the recent Amazon Lenovo is a different class of device, spec wise it's a no brainer.

My Surface Pro 4 start to have screen flickering after a period of time use, did they fix the problem with the newer version?

    • MS recall pro 4 for such issue as you should request warranty/recall replacement.

      • Surface Pro 4 already out of warranty.

        • Recall screen issue is beyond 2 years standard warranty. Same as car recall.

          • @maxall: Are you sure? It didn't say that on their site.

How can I tell if my Surface is eligible for replacement?
The eligibility period on eligible Surface Pro 4 devices for the scramble symptom is three years from the date of purchase.

            • @superforever: Give MS a call to find out. My friend's Pro4 replaced new one without any issue. It is MS's screen issue which should not limit to within 3 years to claim.

              • @maxall: Thanks let me try.

                • @superforever: My surface pro 4 (4gb m3) had the screen flicker too into it's 4th year. I called up mircrosoft, it was out warranty but they were able to offer $330 off my new surface. Plus got another $300 off the surface pro 7 i5 8gb (down to $870 from 1499) during the last microsoft 20%off sale.

              • @maxall: Thanks for your advise.

Finally bought Surface Pro 7 with $330 extra discount. They didn't offer free replacement now.

Plus got another $300 off the surface pro 7 i5 8gb (down to $870 from 1499) during the last microsoft 20%off sale.

                Did that today.

                Thanks

  • Don't forget the cashback from https://www.shopback.com.au/microsoft which says below

10% off Surface Laptops for Students
    Up to 5.50% Cashback

I am assuming it 5.50% for non-students, right? Does someone know if a .edu.au ID enough to get a 10% discount?

    • +1

The cash back says it's 1.5% for Microsoft Surface.

      • +3

Ah, I need to get a deal on Specsavers :)

So, 10% off on Surface laptops only for students.

  • still no deal for surface go 2

  • I’ve recently started at new entry level IT job and want a new laptop to learn powershell and other IT applications. Would anyone recommend a surface laptop 3 for this type of work?

    • Yeap..pretty good. More than enough

  • Does anyone know if you can get the educational discount on top of the 20%?

    • +1

      Normally you can't stack them.

    • It is possible at the good guys. Sign up and they take 4 days to send out a unique code. Can use that code on top of the discounted price.

  • Shame it’s not applicable to the Go 2 - keen to upgrade from the Go. Fricken love that thing as it is.

  • Surface Laptop 3 at this price or wait for XPS with AMD Ryzen 4000?

    • +3

You'll be waiting a long time then, don't think ryzrn xps will happen at all

More likely you will see a ryzen in the surface laptop 4

  • The 128gb ssd on these is very restrictive I think. If its like other similar devices, the SSD is soldered in so you can't upgrade it. After you factor in the operating system, you're out of space almost as quickly as taking it out of the box.

    • On the Surface Pro at least, that isn't really true. I have Office, Unity, Visual Studio and Photoshop (and more) on my 128GB Surface Pro and storage is not an issue.
You can just put a SD card in for more storage for music and videos (I have a 128GB SD Card).
Obviously you shouldn't put applications or project files on the SD card, so if you have more than 80GB of them then you need more storage - but the majority of people don't.

      • Agree, glad they still offer this as an option as for some people this is all they need and jumping up to 256+ is an expensive proposition.

  • What are ozbargainers thoughts on surface pro 7 comparisons with Dell xps 13 and HP spectre x360?

I've been on the net trying to find comparisons on the 3 but with very limited findings.
