This is a great soundbar. Really impressive and loud. Does not have wifi but if you want something that will rattle your windows it is fantastic. Has bluetooth for wireless playback.

Seems to be $495 everywhere so the deal is the $80 credit. The mode # is HS512

  • +1

How does it compare to the JBL soundbar

  • Gah! I paid $695 for this a few weeks ago.

Will Good Guys honour this as part of their 30 day price thing?

    • +2

      How is the sound quality?

    • Only if you took out their Concierge cover these days from what I understand: https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/30-day-price-guarantee.
Some credit cards do have price match cover though if you paid with one, may be worth checking.

      • +1

        Concierge wasn't offered :(

Sound quality is good! Surprisingly so. The overhead Atmos isn't very noticeable, but the sound is clear and the speakers don't distort, even at max volume.

With Atmos coming more and more to Netflix, Apple etc, it's worth upgrading, for the clarity.

        • Did you pay with credit card? Some credit cards also offer price protection.

        • I think you can join Concierge after the fact within a period of time.

  • I got one $495 from Binglee on Friday, very impressive

    hmmm…found review
"Bought this Hisense soundbar along with the Hisense R8 tv because I wanted the full Dolby Atmos experience - unfortunately, no matter what settings or updates I have applied, there is a lip synch issue where the picture is at least 1 second behind the Dolby Atmos audio (that was as near to 1:1 as I could get it). Dolby Atmos sounds incredible, but the lip synch issue makes it unbearable, and I have resorted to keeping the sound settings at PCM. Nice soundbar overall, just don't go for it based on Dolby Atmos."

    • +3

Pretty sure that's an issue with the R8. Not the soundbar.

      • yeah I had this issue even with the built-in speakers, but an easy fix in the settings.

    • Have you tried playing a bluray disc instead of media files or streaming? Could be because of the media player. Try and install a third party players like VLC or Kodi.

      • VLC will tell you the codec and how many chanels. Most pirated movies are stereo, but there are ones like Skyfall that have 6 channels.

I have a second hand 5.1 Pioneer system, Geforce 750 Ti with 3 HDMI outputs. I know when I am running 5.1 or stereo, and I think most people are confused. I can use the Pioneer remote control run stereo over the 6 speakers but I don't call that home theatre.

        • I have no idea what you're talking about here. Are you replying to Maxedin?

    • This is why I'm reluctant to buy another sound bar. Last time this happened I had huge sound sync issues.

    • I've got the r8 and find the odd thing out of sync depending on the source or file type, this can be adjusted quite easily though. The setting does lurk in a weird location.

    • I used R8 too, but no lip sync issue for me with this soundbar

  • Had this with the Hisense P6. Plugged the Xbox one S through the soundbar. Unfortunately no HDR passthrough as advertised. Maybe an issue with Xbox one S.

Why are people using these "sound bars". Most tv signals are stereo ie 2.0. Is this sound bar 2.1?

Are people kidding themselves calling stereo some sort of Dolby home theatre setup?

I'll stick to my 5.1 Pioneer system I got second hand for $100.

    • +4

Maybe they want a neater setup without wires everywhere..

      • -4

So are people just connecting this to their tv via 3.5mm stereo audio cable? How are small speakers on a sound bar better than small speakers in a tv? I don't get what people are trying to achieve. Add a subwoofer to stereo?

        • +5

It doesn't seem like you know much about modern day sound system. These day in ages you don't need many speakers to produced 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound.

          • -3

@HandsomeMonkey: I'm pretty sure I can distinguish speakers behind from speakers in front. How many speakers do you think 5.1 has? All a sound bar?

        • you would be surprise with atmos soundbar , if setup correctly the soundbar can even project sounds from rear of your ear

          • @dcep: I'm my very large bedroom with 3 wardrobes, 2 sideboards, computer, tv, 6 milk creates of electronic doodads, and gym equipment? Because that's where the calibrated home theater is as well.

        • +2

Because up until a few years ago (and even now in cheap models), sound is a secondary thought and a good way to bring cost down is to put small inferior speakers into the sets.
A dedicated sound bar despite being small speakers, are clearer, louder and an added sub gives the rounded out sound most sets do not provide.

Unless you have a TV from the 90s, then you would utilise optical, coaxial or ARC HDMI for audio.

Finally there is aesthetics, or space restriction to look at. Most people these days don't floor standing speakers, a big amp, sub and cables everywhere. Especially if you want the minimalist look.

          • @2023: My 70yo old place has picture rails which I use for speakers and hiding speaker cable and hanging art. Its are great idea gone out of fashion.

$400 for a Hisense. Any other 5.1 soundboard for this price range ?

  • +2

Bought one today with high hopes… Sounds pretty compromised to me on most material. Has a tinny/nasal sound on voices like its lacking mid bass most of the time. Also makes a pop noise on free to air channels when changing to hd stations as it changes into to dolby digital mode. Coming from a well regarded 5 year old philips soundbar (htl9100) that sounds so much more balanced than this hisense jobbie with the bonus of no pops etc. Connected to an LG c7 oled with a certified 4k cable and confident its not a source or cable issue re mediocre sound. Tested plenty of Netflix Atmos content and the height channels are hardly noticeable to me. My assessment is that its fair value at $400 but no bargain

    • Have a look at this review and see if moving the sub closer to the soundbar makes any difference. The reviewer noted that the crossover gap was reduced when he did so.

      • +1

Cheers and i did place the sub immediately next to the sub. Played with all the settings etc. It can sound quite nice when playing some full on dynamic movie type content, tho we also watch a lot of standard tv with voice and it sounds very meh

        • I understand what you mean, but that could also be the fault of the source. Have you tried it with music?

          • @psyren89: I have the same issue. Normal TV sounds very flat and tinny. Even when the source is 5.1 on the TV it doesn't sound good. The Yamaha YAS-107 that this replaced sounded better for normal TV.

However, playing music and programs through Netflix sounds great, although I don't get the full surround immersion that I would expect from a soundbar with this many speakers. Could also be the shape of my living area which is open planned and has high ceilings, so less surfaces to bounce off.

  • Got one today. I'm not an audiophile but it sounds amazing IMHO.

  • The JB sound guy told me "Hisense Soundbar.. never heard of it.. may be an online thing.. we don't keep em here.".

Was trying to get them to price match at "net value" of 415. His comment made me go to The Good Guys store to first check out the quality. I wasn't too impressed.

    • Checking out soundbars in the middle of a noisy store with dozens of other sound devices going at once is never a good idea.

      • So are you saying the Hisense bars are good? There weren't any other Soundbars going off at the time I visited the store. I had to ask to turn this one on. I do acknowledge that they would not let me put something else on to check the quality and the TV it was attached to was showing a bloody horse race (free to air channel)

        • Can't comment on their quality. All I know is that the last time I tried to listen to a soundbar in a JB, I had to stream something random I had on my phone via bluetooth while a billion other TVs were going at once.

I miss places like Headphonic that had a listening room for potential purchases…

    • Hey I was having similar issues. If youre getting issues with 2 channel material (Tv etc) then Press “surround sound” on the remote to turn SS off.
This dramatically increased the sound quality , bass etc. I also found with some atmos material that I also needed to press “surround sound” to On before I got the full sound.
There’s no way to tell if SS is on/off till you press the button. I don’t know if it keeps the last setting you had or if it’s meant to auto detect , the manual is pretty non existent. It really needs an info button to tell you what the current settings, source quality etc is.
Also check if your source has an output option for comfort noise and
check/uncheck to see if it helps with the clicking noises etc.

Oh and for those wondering , it has a night mode as well. It really dampens the sound quality imo , but the voice channel stays loud and clear. Perfect for a share house etc.

I’ve found the sound quality to be great , and depending on your room layout it does a good job of giving you Surround Sound effects. Obviously an all in one bar is never going to match the sweep of a true SS setup, but even the illusion of rear channel sound is there for me , allbeit In a reduced form.
      .

  • Pity that the delivery is $35 for me.

  • Another thing I noticed was that credit will be issued on 01-Jul-2020 and expiry will be 8-Jul-2020

    • Yes, The store credit will expire within seven (7) days of store credit email dispatch

  • Testing the unit for the 3rd day. Quite impressive so far though I never had Bose or Sonos for comparison. Dolby atmos experience (when properly positioning in squire room) is fantastic!!! Almost like I'm in the cinema. Dolby atmos compatible music is awesome too.
The only annoying issue is that the unit turns off after 15 seconds of idle and it takes loooong time to turn it back on :(

  • Been eyeing this off for ages.. I noticed it shows the source through the soundbar "Ie: HDM1" or whatever, can you turn that off so the soundbar has no lights, etc?
I've got an older Hisense 4K (65M7000) TV. Hope there'd be no lip sync issues with that.. Really wanted to hear this soundbar, but at the GG or JB when I see it, it's never plugged in. Does it "faithfully" reproduce surround on music BD's? What about Netflix movies that feature Atmos?
Wish it didn't look so "cheap" though…

This is a good price though.. Otherwise I'll save my pennies and get the Yamaha YSP-2700 when it's on sale.

    • There is a dimmer button on the remote itself. Forgot if you can fully turn it off. Mines still packed in the box

    • Just checked. You can turn off the soundbar display.
Now I can't activate ARC on my TCL tv. No option to activate CEC even though it has a HDMI ARC. Any clues ?

  • 10% cashback through cashrewards makes this really compelling

  • Tech help needed please. TIA
Have a mi box s connected to tv. Mi box audio set to recommended. (Also tried manual)
Tv connected to soundbar via HDMI ARC.
Get the sound on ARC but the mode is always pcm audio.
How do I get Dolby ?
I am playing movies on Netflix and Amazon that are on 5.1 but still get pcm audio on the soundbar status.

  • I got this yesterday at Binglee for 490. Connected to my 2019 55” Samsung smart tv played some netflix films, the surround sound, heavy bass is absolutely amazing. Grab it while it’s still on sale.

  • Does your subwoofer reset to 0 everytime you switch off the mains ?
