What's a good use case for the i7? 10600K OC is on par for cheaper in competitive gaming. 3900X at similar price will obliterate the i7 in productivity while also decent at gaming.

    • -3

      Unsure how this is obliteration

      https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-10700K-v…

Gaming wise the i7 has the edge and for workstation/multithreaded workloads the 3900x wins. Intel is better value at the pricepoint for people who will use their PC for both work and play whereas the AMD is a better workstation which can also game for the pricepoint.

And yeah the 10600k is definitely better value for people who game but don't use their pc for multithreaded work.

Because noone should ever look at userbenchmark when comparing CPUs?

Look for comparisons at well-known YouTube tech channels, like Gamer Nexus or Hardware Unboxed, where gaming, productivity, power consumptions and value propositions between various CPUs of both AMD and Intel are reviewed and discussed professionally.

Edit: a quick recap for 10700k vs 3900x

        • 5-10% more fps at 1080p (virtually indistinguishable since both run competitive games at much higher than 100fps with a 2080ti), much less at 1440p.
        • up to 50% slower in productivity apps (or even worse in some apps)
        • cost the same for CPU alone, a 3900x can run on a $150-200 boards, a 10700k requires $300+ boards to unleash full potential. Oh and 10700k needs $100-200 CPU cooler to tame that heat as well while 3900X runs fine on stock free cooler

Fair feedback in regards to cpu benchmark i personally don't enjoy consuming that kind of video content because its honestly very boring!

Looking foward to intel eventually achieving 10nm and giving AMD a run for there money. Will be interesting to see how amd responds as well

According to userbenchmark an i3-9350KF is 3% better than an i9-10980XE in effective speed. Something seems wrong doesn't it?

If starting from scratch the only reason one might consider Intel is for gaming, right?

AMD owns it everywhere else it seems.

    Exits stage left.

I don't understand how people choose between all the different variations of 2070S or 2080S graphics cards. For example, how does this one compare to https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MSI-RTX-2080-SUPER-GAMING-X-TRIO…

    • Different cooling, more factory overclocks on one instead of the other, the look of the product.

You just have to spend time research for reviews on the cards you want to buy. Mainly finding out the temp/noise when gaming, and if there's any particular issues of a specific model. Cards using the same chips will always perform very closely. From picture alone you can see that the ventus has only 2 fans, and smaller heat sink, so it will most likely to run much hotter and/or nosier.

      • Do you know of any websites that have a simple comparison table for the features/specs of various cards?

        • +1

Hm I don't think there's any website provide such table. I always go to pcpartpicker to find the lowest price cards, find reviews and once determined I'd wait for a deal on ozbargain to pop up.

    • I am using Ventus 2080 ti, I don't like this card, cooling is terrible.

But the temp is probably different in 2080S. I would go to an expensive one.

      • I doubt it'll be different… Pretty much any MSI Ventus cards I saw in reviews has bad thermal. They're always among the cheaper/cheapest though, so could be worth it if you're willing to spend the effort to push the boundary of undervolt + overclock.

        • correct, I had a drama re thermal recently.

The fan goes to 4100 RPM when the temp is over 77C, even my curve is set to 60%. The noise is like a helicopter.

I changed the thermal by myself, and the fan goes back to normal. But I just know I lost the warranty

      • What temps does yours hit? I’m running a Gigabyte Windforce 2080ti and it runs hot hot hot.

        • What's the temp of Windforce 2080ti with everything stock? I'm on a Windforce 2080, which likes to run up to 83C then throttled on stock. Can't imagine how the same cooling system can handle 2080ti…

        • around 80C when I run the stress test in 3DMark.

If I open the side panel, the temp is around 72-74C.

          +130mhz, stock frequency is similar.

      • What temps are you getting when gaming?

      • I have the 2080S variant the cooling is shit. Go with a different card, something that has 3 fans or better cooler design.

  • There's no way I would pay $650+ for an Intel CPU at such performance. There was a time I would, and those days are gone.

    • Ikr with the 3700x at $450 right now its a no brainer which one you would go for

  • 2080 super or wait for next gen

Tbh I dont actually know how they are selling these.

    • The power consumption and heat to performance does not make sense.

    • The 'new' 1200 socket will be replaced by socket 1700 in less than 2 years.

    • The 1200 socket with 10 series does not have pcie4

On the flip AMD offers better performance less power and pcie4 and they'll support your board for newer chips. Im one of those waving goodbye to Intel for a while as of now.

    • isn't it obvious these are the fastest 8 cores currently, also you avoid the possible latency issues with ryzen

both AMD and intel are going to change platform with DDR5 releases in a year or 2
