  • Not sure this is worth it compared to the HP envy which JB has for 1.1k?

literally hundreds of laptop brands and models….. some people likes HP some hates it. some HP model missing something that are in Lenovo model. then after you spent hours of research and deciding on one, buy it, and next month the price drop a lot, or there is an expensive model that now on sale, or there is new tech coming in and you are in regret mode.

buying laptop is as hard as choosing a life partner

Yes, it was so confusing to buy a laptop that i ended up buying macbook pro.

    • They are two different laptops. Envy offers more portability but lesser storage and fewer ports. The screen is also smaller, not good for some users who prefer bigger screens.

If I may add, i5-10th gen and 256gb ssd for 1.1k is ironic as at the beginning of this year, HP had the i7 variant with 16gb ram and 512gb ssd on their education website for $1140.

  • I wonder you pay 2299 for this machine.

  • +2

Dell is better with i7 for the price $1188 (Base price $1988) and 10% shopback…

    • This or the ThinkPad E595 3700U/ 2x8 GB ram/ 512 nvme?

      • I have an E595 with 2x8GB and 1TB nvme and 1TB SSD. I love my machine but by the time you pimp the stock E595 you maybe at similar costs. What is the cost comparison though? That's the real answer.

    • +2

Dell's display (non-IPS) kills it for me.

Base price is ridiculous. This E15 is much much better. Better build quality, better screen, better battery. Vostro laptops are usually pretty gross and this is the lowest end vostro you could get. TN screen, the GPU is hot garbage, it's worse than the integrated graphics, no idea why they're even including it. There's no meaningful difference between the i5 and i7, some minor clock differences. And it has a CD drive.. in 2020. There will be so much more wrong with the laptop outside the specs, an awful trackpad, won't have simple creature comforts like a backlit keyboard, probably have shitty hinges that fall apart. The chassis looks like it's from 2005

      It's a suckers laptop

    • PLUS 5% OFF in cart and no type-c port at Dell laptop

  • +3

The only pitfall with this machine is the fact it only has single channel RAM due to the single ram slot.

What are the key differences between E15 and E595 (apart from AMD vs Intel).
E595 Ryzen 3500u is available with 32GB RAM for $1042 (and then the 11% shopback will bring the cost down to around ~935 ish. )

    • +1

E595 has 2 RAM slots which will pick up performance nicely. I upped our E595 and E495 to 16GB when I got them (I purchased 2 sticks of RAM from amazon and took one out of E595 and matched in the E495 and put the 2 new ones in E595). The E595 also has a space to add a second drive - so I put a 1TB SSD in there.

Coronavirus really bones computer prices hey.

I got a similar Lenovo with similar specs aside from obviously a previous gen CPU, but including 16gb RAM (and the same ddr4 at that) and a dedicated GPU for about the same price… 4 years ago.

Not saying this isn't a deal in the current climate. Just saying it's nuts how much more expensive things are getting.

    • Luckily laptop parts are not as scarce as toilet paper was, otherwise these would $10,000 laptops. But yes all components have gone up in IT and other sectors too.

Hello, i am hoping some one can help with a couple of questions

how can you buy it for $920, i clicked on the link above but dont see that price?

how can the type c port provide an external display or external hard drive or external charging of mobile phone while charging laptop?

please note, i have asked the lenovo chat re the type c question and the transcript is below, which doesnt add up with the description above.

Yes, you can connect external drive, external display, external phone charger, while charging laptop.
    You,
ok thanks, sorry for the extra questions but i am lost on this port, does it have an adapter to allow the laptop to charge with other connections out of the same port at the same time?
    7:22 AM
    Gibson,
Please allow me 2 minutes while I check that for you.
    You,
    ok
    7:26 AM
    Gibson,
It can only be chbarged through USb-C port.
there will be no other ports to charge the machine.
    You,
hmm, ok, i will try again, i know the laptop can only be charged thru this port, what i want to know is while the laptop is charging thru this port how does the same port provide a connection for external display, external hard drive, mobile phone charging?
    7:36 AM
    Gibson,
You'll get HDMi port for external display, USb ports for hard drive and phone charging.
    7:39 AM
    You,
you either dont understand my question or your being a salesman and just choosing not to answer it
the laptop has 1 x type c port, forget about the other ports, i am aware of what they can do, what i want to know is if the type c port can do more than just charge the laptop?
    Gibson,
If port is for charging. it can not be used for anything else.

    Thanks in advance

Usb-c can be used simultaneously as a charging port and display if going through a dock.

Otherwise, if you're going through just a charger, it will only supply power.
Or if you've connected it to a monitor, it will only be for display output.

      • i see. make sense. so yeah, get a dock, then you can charge and output display to a external monitor at the same time.
my question. is there such a usb c dock that can charge, and at the same time output to TWO external monitor? and will this kind laptop capable of do it?

        • Now you're pushing it lol.

        • +1

There are heaps of docks which can do multi-monitor output. The more power a dock can deliver/ more output ports it has, the more expensive they are.

The big issue is whether or not this laptop can support it. Since it is usb 3.1 gen 2, it probably can support 2x 1080p monitors provided the dock has 2 output monitor ports.

Usb-c is basically a conduit which transfers data (video and Ethernet) and power over a cable link.

To make matters more confusing, Usb-c gen 2 is different to thunderbolt 3,although both use the same looking Usb-c ports.
Thunderbolt 3 has more bandwidth than Usb-c gen2 and so can handle 2x4k monitor outputs, provided your dock has the required displayport ports

    • how can the type c port provide an external display or external hard drive or external charging of mobile phone while charging laptop?

There are many monitors nowadays with USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 2 (power delivery + DP). If you plug this laptop into it, you will get both display and power charging. You can charge or connect other devices with the remaining USB ports as using type C is an overkill. If your monitor does not have that type C port, you will have to use the HDMI port anyway so your laptop’s type C port is free for power. Seems like the specs description above answered sufficiently. The key words were “USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 2 (power delivery + DP)”.

For those who recommended cashreward or shopback etc… Do you need to disable antivirus protection in order for the claim to go through? I did exactly what it requires to make a claim but still missed out on many. They returned some small amount like $0.12 cents but missed on the big one.

Also, there is no support number to call or direct email support. You just hope they will response to you. Yes, everyone is blaming the pandemic but it doesn't mean no support, happy to wait but not happy for no response at all.

    • Yeah cashbacks can be quirky. I seem to miss out on Amazon a lot. I got CR paid out on my 2 lenovos from their site.

    • I also find it strange that it's usually the bigger purchases that are magically missed even though the same process is applied as when the smaller purchases receive the cashback.

I usually make sure that all browser add-ons are disabled in particular if your chosen antivirus has a browser extension which blocks ads and trackers or you use ad-blockers. No real need to disable your entire antivirus software.

Incognito mode also seems to work, but it's probably safer to run the browser in safe mode (disables all add-ons) for the purchase.

Remember that you shouldn't open or visit any other pages once you've clicked on the cashback link.
