    damascus inspired patterns

I am inspired to pass on this deal.

    It’s a trap

  • Relatively soft steel HRC 53

Look at Trident etc HRC 58 for a more durable option.

For $300 you might as well get a proper set of knives like the Global brand. $1400 RRP is so ridiculous it deserves a neg on its own.

That is hilarious :-) It is like the Baccarat marketing department watched that video and used every tip on how not to market real Japanese made knives!

I will definitely not be buying these knives.

This site gets even more ridiculous with their marketing. Upon visiting the page, A big red message is displayed "Quick! 133 people are about to buy this" (note this message changes, sometimes it says "#2 best seller". The info button next to it pops up the message copied below. I would love to think that most shoppers are savvy enough to just laugh at all this hyperbole. But unfortunately, I think a lot of innocent shoppers fall for it and spend their hard earned money on crappy products. They guarantee 133 people are about to buy those knives? sure they are!

In my experience, baccarat is cheap generic rubbish. Go at least global at this price point.

So they take cheap 420J2 steel intended for handles, trimming and outer shells and make soft knives out of them, then pretend they cost $155 each? Better value out of a Kiwi knife at the dollar shop. If you want to impress your dinner guests, VG10 in the shun sets do a better job, and their ones have 32-64 layers without having to be"inspired" by the Damascus pattern

Some people might like it, but aesthetically, these knives are far too busy looking for me.

You have the massive amount of dimpling, and then the Damascus patterning. Choose one, not both.

The marketing spiel is extremely annoying as well. Using 'inspired' to imply these knives are hand-forged pattern-welded knives.

These are clearly stamped knives, and I hope no one buys them at all.

That amount of money can definitely get you a very nice set of German knives, if you really need a set.

The so-called RRP of knives should be investigated by the Office of Fair Trading. Every single listing for these knives is $399. That's clearly the RRP. Unless you're gullible enough to believe that every single retailer just decided to reduce the price of this particular knife set by exactly $1000…

Not that I recommend buying a knife set, but do understand some people just love the “completeness” of having a set on the bench here’s a set with a similar RRP and real lifetime worth of quality on sale for an ok discount over regular pricing.

How this store is allowed to get away with their constant closing/overstock sales and grossly over inflated RRP’s us beyond me.

I guess some people just understand the Difference between RRP and Realistic/Regular Retail Price

Oh no I just paid RRP for these. NOT!

I walked past House once, having a massive sale during a non-traditional sale period (ie not Christmas, EOFY, Easter etc.), and popped in for a look.

Was looking at getting a cleaver at that time, and saw their Baccarat (regular) cleaver on sale. From $129 (or thereabouts) to $29.99.

$30 wasn't too bad for a decent cleaver, so took it out to have a feel.

Did not feel like it had the right balance or heft. For me at least.

The metal itself felt off too. Feels like it would chip if I tried to chop chicken bones.

You can get a decent heavy Chinese cleaver for less than $30, and this knife quality did not even come close to that.

Did not bother with the Baccarat brand after that.

Really terrible quality. Buy two or three good knives for this amount like Tojiro DP3s.. at least you know the steel and manufacturing processes are decent… On a related note I don’t know why people go “looking for a knife set”.. when you’ll probably only use the chef knife 90% of the time anyway. Spend most of your budget on a chefs knife, buy a small knife (aka “petty”) from the same range, That will cover most people’s uses.

As for specialty knives.. get cheap Victorinox fibrox filleting and/or boning knives if you use them. They’re very good and cheap. You can get a cheap Chinese cleaver from Chinatown if you ever chop through pieces of chicken with bones. You shouldn’t need a serrated bread knife if you keep your chef knife sharp, but if you must a cheap stamped steel one will be just as good at sawing through crusty bread as an expensive one.

  • +3

These are the best knives I've ever used… Is something I'd never say. Even the 7 piece global set of the site for 319 is a better deal.

  • +3

Dont pay that much for Baccarat knives everyone. They aren't a premium brand

  • The Victorinox set posted today are much better knives, and only $50

  • So shiny…
