And talk about the first thing that comes up?

        • +2

          @spaceninja

even blondes with male parts down there?

        • +1

its like a dating site without the fees :p this is like the ozbargin deal of the century. Free coffee, 2 dollar sgs2 and a free dating service XD

    • nice update, thanks

    • You can just spot the blondes (the one I mentioned in the above post) head in one of those pics.

      • Bottle blonde you mean?

      • +5

can anyone circle all the chicks in the photo before uploading. It's a little bit extra effort but you'd be doing one particular ozbargainer a favour ;)

        • +1

          http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/705/62331139312acdf851a…

Yeah. I'm that bored. And I'm not even lined up yet.

        • +4

          You really have issues, dude.

        • Now if someone could get me a sample of the chick's hair and mail it to me , that would be splendid ;)

        • you missed the one on the far right

spawnpoint: is canberra that bad? aren't there any girls there? :p

        • +2

the scarcity of chicks in canberra has made me forget what they look like.

This reminds me of the WOW south park episode

    • Why do they all sit facing the wall? Feeling ashame of camping?

      • +2

lolwut, 5d and 50mm 1.2L, get off ozbargain haha

        • +1

What has it got to do with the gear i use? LoLz. Being able to afford stuff doesn't mean i don't like bargains! Most of the people here are fairly well off anyway!

        • +1

lolz am sure it was in jest. It's through the money saved (spent?) on ozbargain that we can afford so many gadgets :)

  • +1

I read in the forum a few people attempted to sneak into the queue….so…
    How were they dealt with?
Assuming polite requests to leave are at one end of the possibility scale and Taekwondo/Tazering is at the other..

    What happened?

  • +4

I just had a thought that all those people waiting in line will most likely be having Maccas as all their meals, can you imagine the hot farts that they all must be doing on eachother in the line!!

    • +2

That's the idea to try the get the person in front of you to leave!

  • My question is - are they selling any phones other than the special $2 ones!

  • Hmmm… The iPhone 4S queue have just begun as well… 2 guys in the queue so far…

    • +8

      beat them up

    • Yups. Saw them at around 3pm.

Photo of both of them and their twit handle.

      http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6152/6233395213_0098ec9d86_b.…

I assume that people won't be wanting the high res photo of this 2. Unless you want to do something funny with it… by all means go ahead. :D Feel free to ask me for the high res photo if you need it.

      • +2

Can someone ask them what is in the suitcases?

        • +2

          Hairspray apparently…

  • +2

this blog is getting funnier and funnier by the minute

    Update as at 7PM lol

There are 12 more spots left as I counted 18 heads in the Q.

  • Here's a fun fact: Samsung are losing $59290 with this.

    • +4

yep, and in the few days more there will be another apple queue just as long, and yet they aren't losing any money, and getting full price..

So samsung needs to pull this stunt to get 50 people to line up..
      but apple don't..

Also in a way it is pretty cruel marketing considering the people who have to sit their in the cold night till Friday..

Samsung marketing are just laughing their asses off in their warm bed..

One AD on tv, probably cos them almost as much as this stunt..
But the internet buzz on Ozbargain is priceless,

considering all the people who are monitoring this thread..to catch updates..

this is greater than any ad, that people would just channel skip..

    • +2

Why that much? Cost them 200 bucks to produce 1 phone so at worst they are losing 15-20k.

      • Cause of the RRP. (from their site)

        • How the hell did you get 59k when the RRP is $849…?
          849 x 50 - 2 x 50 = $42,350

And they aren't "losing" that^ amount. What they're losing is the cost to produce 50 phones minus $2 per phone as blackrider said. You can't 'lose' profit that hasn't been made.

Plus they'll most likely end up profiting from this promotion anyway as it's just a marketing event as the posts below explain.

    • Well, I don't know what their advertising budget is, but I'd be guessing they would see the impact of this "event" as a bargain if in terms of so-called viral marketing…especially if they get some TV coverage.

Hmmm I'm thinking if nothing is doing with TV news coverage, they can always ramp it up by paying some agitators to start a fight with the Apple fanbois (and win) …free publicity gold.

So all in all ballpark $20,000 of money well spent (assuming rent + staff + cost price phones)

    • the whole popup store concept is to create buzz more than make sales anyway, so i think it's money well spent for samsung.
(plus that RRP includes ad costs, so if they did this they won't have to pay ad costs. overall they've lost nothing, since they probably took this money out of their ad budget)

    • better that than your sanity, people queueing have lost their marbles! … but oh so much entertainment for the rest of us! this is the ozbarg deal of the century, even if i am not participating.

samsung - what they lose in ph sales, they have gained in publicity and deal going viral. which would be at least 10x pr value vs cost of promo. clearly this is a PR STUNT to generate talk re their brand/prod. and given upcoming apple launch, perfectly timed too.

  • is there any spots left?
or is the friday all gone?

    • 4 left when I left there. So at least 1-2 spots now I reckon.

      • a part of me wants to do it cos it is so cheap..
but the thought of staying there for 3 days is too much..

        cruel samsung, pretty cruel..

        u don't want one?

        • Just did my mates some favours (have provided them all necessary stuff since Monday). I have to work (pretty Mickey mouse job though) so could not join the queue. Could have made a whole week salary if I had done so but work is work. Tbh I was there when there were 4 spots left for Wednesday but who would do my job lol.

        • It's good to know people earn just as little as me :)

  • what is your job black rider?

If it was just one day wait I probably could do it..
but till Friday is too long..

    • +1

Don't mind telling, I work as a part time assistant accountant (or apprentice lol).

      • Well, as an accountant, this would be like quite cheap, right? I mean $2 is like, not even an hour's wages!

        • It's cheap for anyone lol. What can you do with 2 bucks here? Even in my home country 2 bucks is not much. And I'm just a fresh graduate so the pay rate is not high though.

  • Put on a high vis vest and a hard hat and grab a couple of signs and unfortunately there will be footpath works at 7:55am, so crowd and security please stand back :)

  • I can't fathom lining up for days on end for a free product, even one worth $500 (or whatever the phone is worth).

Given the number apparently in the queue, most were looking at a 2-3 day wait, which, even on the average wage basically means you're not likely to be coming out in front anyway (unless you've wangled them as sick days, of course).

  • +1

    or theyre uni students

  • +2

I've just unlocked my phone for free on the voda site. There was a sticker on the box saying that so I tried today and it works flawlessly…
I reckon the $2 bucks are just covering the sim costs, they were trying to shove $45 leather cases and $39 plasticky ones LOL they were just fishing/

    • +1

You are one of the 2 Aussie guys in the top 10 2day rite? My mates got 2 I assume but unfortunately their phones ran out of battery (assume again) so I cannot call them to say congrats. Pity.

      • +2

Yep, I was the first in line for Tues. Now unlocked, I reckon I could sell it for at least $450, I just got a call from the first scammer: "Yeah, I work in a farm and I could paypal $500 to you if you send it to me first" haha LOL what a K$ob….

        • I'd buy it for $450.

        • should you sell more than 450? at least $600 dude……

        • how that person know ur number?

        • I'm interested in the phone for $450 providing that the $2 receipt from samsung is included :D

        • +1

He said at least $450, cowboys!

        • +4

providing that the $2 receipt from samsung is included

So you can get it laminated and framed in your living room?

    • i'll buy it for $450, cheers mate

  • +1

    Sick of updates?

Pitch tent. Leave the tent there and come back every morning to shift the tent. - Repeat.

Life goes on and you have a spot in queue. LoL

      • See, the tent idea is good, but I didn't have the mates to do this with. Or the tent, actually…

        • if you pick it up today it's yours for $450!

      • free tent anyone?

      • Pitch tent. Leave the tent there and come back every morning to shift the tent. - Repeat.

only problem is if people remove the tent or go in front of it

    • +1

I hope he has a permit for that tent.

  • lol thanks for that jack! lol at the tent but good thinking! how many were in line u reckon?

    • No worries… at the time, there was about 6 before the tent. Another 5-6 after the tent. Not sure how many inside the tent… lol maybe it is empty and doing "KeeFy's" trick lol

  • so what time do you actually purchase the phones? 8am everyday?

    • Yep, at 8:00 AM the first ten people go into the store, 20-30 min later they come out with a brand new SG2 for $2 :-)
The whole show ends this Friday.

  • I'm just thinking of going to the popup shop again and sell mine there….. quick and painless, no evilbay fees….

    • Let me get back to you like, fairly soon.

      EDIT: Three questions -
1/ You got this phone at this deal right? Not like, some random Chinese dodgy import etc, etc, right?
2/ What do I do exactly if the phone breaks under warranty?
3/ Are we allowed buy and sell stuff on the comments section on OzBargain?

      • +1

just take it offline and send him a PM/email.

Go on from there and organise pickup/payment

      • Can vouch that his phone is legit from Samsung store and to buy it off him! I just tested it out with my SGS2 and it can be unlocked for free from the vodafone website (beats paying $75 that they wanted at the store??)

  • +2

Wouldn't you be pissed-off if you lined up for a few days, got to the front of the queue, reached for your wallet or into your pocket for some shrapnel, and…no readies!

Hope The Gap is a long way from the CBD. At least he/she (75% chance it would be a "he") has no money, so they would need to walk it.

  • +2

you know what guys, i just hope samsung engrave those 50 $2 phone with special number ie 1 to 50.
    make them special edition
imagine the resell price. i just want those ppl who line up for days happy….

    • +1

that actually is a brilliant idea. The typical Galaxy font is amazing for that type of typography(hehe)

    • Finally, I saw the first person who got the $2 phone on Tue. But I'd like to see who is the first one on Monday morning.

    • +2

I just read that article and saw that both the people waiting for the iphone are male! I thought one of them was a butch female from above posts (did look like it from the first pics) :O

Also they are both only 15 and their parents let them skip school to wait in line for a PHONE?? Crazy world we live in now when a phone is more important than education and your child's safety.

    • from smh article :
(apple fanboys)They said they'd had many people approach them trying to convince them to line up in the Samsung line instead of the Apple line. "There's this guy who has come up to us trying to convince us to buy the Samsung Galaxy S II two days in a row now," said Tom. "And he's an idiot."

      • +7

Queuing up for enough time to score an $800 phone for $2, but electing instead to pay full retail for an Apple product.

Who's the idiot? Tragic fashion fan bois

      • +3

I can't believe that the guys in the Apple line are calling other people idiots. Queuing for two days for a product that's going to sell at full price, versus queuing for two days for a product that does virtually the same thing, that sells for $2.

Someone should tell the school they attend that they're truanting - if you're an Apple fan, you can be first in line if you get the first two guys in the line removed.

        • +5

why bother lining for so many days(apple fanbois.), they could have rocked up today and still been the first or second in line… tools.

    • +6

Awesome 2nd to last pic: the guys at the front are scoping out the hot blonde walking by; speaking of tents, i think the guy first in line is using his cushion to cover the one he just pitched in response to said blonde.

      • Is the lady the first person who got the phone?

  • -6

My neg vote was removed. This is not a deal, it's just free promotion for samsung. Probably for Samsung is a good deal. Free publicity for 50 phones.

    • +4

… how is a $2 phone not a good deal?

      Tim Cook, is that you?

    • +3

Of course it's great publicity for Samsung but that doesn't proclude it from from being a 'deal'.

Obviously the numbers are extremely limited but in terms of bargains, it's right at the top of the tree.

    • -1

Its kinda dodge that your vote was removed. maybe ozbargain is being paid by samsung for advertising? doesnt make much sense otherwise

      • +2

It was removed because he got down-voted into oblivion…

        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/54666?page=1#comment-621478

        Currently @ -15.

        The people have spoken.

        • yep great rule(when its not happening to me!), if you say something stupid and neg for a stupid reason, the people can remove your neg :D

i rekon it makes this place a more positive one… as negs bring a (you guest it) negative aura.

  • is this the alleged asian chick and her b/f from monday??? … who in fact are bro & sister?!!! … or are these different people.

Two people Fairfax Media spoke to in Samsung's line - brother and sister John and Jessica Kim from Lidcombe and Burwood respectively - said they would sell their $2 Samsung Galaxy S II smartphones to go on a trip to India.
    from: http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/mobiles/samsung-ambushes-…

p.s love how the smh totally crush the hype by ending article with "John used an iPhone and would be sticking with it, and Jessica an Optus MyTab, which she used as a phone and tablet."

    • Oh wow, you just reminded me of scalpers. I should stand in the Apple line now, buy a 4$, and sell it to an Apple fanboy.

    • +7

Given her popularity with some of the ozbargainers, and the fact they now have both her full name and approximate location, i think that trip to India is well advised. ;)

      • Having Facebook-stalked the one with the most number of mutual friends with me… she's pretty pretty.

        • +1

is she the one studied at sydney uni ?
          yes yes yes pretty
          HAHAHAHAHA
