to be fair, it's not a bad deal (30 words each, 30 reviews = free shuffle) - it's a bit of effort though i guess!
not too much effort I guess, but if you ever wanted to use that website you wont be able to trust it anymore as everyman and his dog is going to spam that site with random reviews.
That's 900 words MINIMUM to get an iPod Shuffle, which you can normally buy for around AUD$60. 5 minute to write a review (if it is even possible, including the time to search, make up a sentence, try to be truthful objective, etc.
Moreover, how do you know that you are the first 200? You might have written 29 and the "deal" still seems to be available. But when you submitted your 30th review, you might get a message saying "sorry you are the 201st"…
1 minute to write a review.. it's only 30 words minimum per review.
Have you even looked at the site? There's probably no more than 100 reviews all up on the website - not many people review on it, hence the free ipod shuffles.

Well, I just did it. Took me about. 70 minutes to write 31 reviews, which will be worth it if I actually get the iPod shuffle.

I reviewed several McDonalds restaurants. I recommend their fries to anyone.
34 reviews - took about 1.5 hours, an easy effort if i get a shuffle out of it. If I don't then I've lost nothing (I was just sitting in front of the television anyway).
Well im done, 33 reviews (11 approved so far). Took me all night, so I hope I get a shuffle out of it. Reviewing KFCs is fun ;)

Actually, if you read the T&C you will find it's a 2GB iPod shuffle. Makes it an even better deal!

If that's the case, then hmmm. Well, at least Truelocal gets some free reviews :) I have truly no idea how the expiry date was set to 30 July for this deal as I can't seem to find this date being mentioned at all on the site.
Exactly. But the funny thing is after each review they still pop up an ad saying post 30 reviews and win an iPod. I've fired off an e-mail to customer service and hopefully they will clarify. No where on the site does it say 31st July expiry, only expiry date has long gone now. I just did 31 reviews so I'm really hoping it has been extended, otherwise this deal might need to be removed :-(

I got 11 approved, 22 waiting. But it hasn't budged since 11 last night, they prob got smashed and now back logged

Not exactly on topic, but I discontinued my company's activities several years before they began work. Don't know where they got their details from, but they posted my company's details without asking for permission.
Trying to work out how to get them to remove me from their listings.
Local business directories (YellowPages, Truelocal, dLook, etc) buy their listings and they don't necessarily verify whether every single one of them are valid. I guess you might wish to notify TL to take down your old business listing…

I remember trying a little while back and giving up a short while later. But I've started receiving calls again so I'm looking into it now.
I've got 30 approved now. I had about 20 approved with 14 pending for a long time and so I just started reviewing more and the new ones became approved whereas the old pending ones are still pending. I suggest anyone in the same situation to just try reviewing more until you get to 30 approved.

The terms and conditions have been updated on the site. Some points to note.
1) It's now a 1GB ipod shuffle (previously said 2GB)
2) Promotion closes Thursday, July 31, 2008 at 8:00pm AEST (previously said 2/7/08)
3) Prize rewarded to first 200 members to review (previously said 200 chosen at random)
Also, Prizes will be allocated at 2.00pm on Thursday, August 7, 2008 … winners will be notified by email.
How can they just change the prize from 2GB to 1GB? This site seems very dodgy, and this competition even dodgier.

Does anyone know why some of your reviews come up as first reviews and others just as reviews, or how you get your review posted as a helpful review? I think all of mine are helpful…. hahaha
First reviews mean that you were the first person to review a business. A helpful review is if someone else reads your review and clicks on the was this review helpful link.
I did 34 on the 13th, only 28 have been approved :( (only 12 were approved yesterday night).
Hopefully i dont miss out because they were slow approving :( I've done 3 more reviews just now to be sure.
I did they same 3 nights ago, and am still waiting for approval of reviews done 3 nights ago, while a review I did 30 minutes ago has already been approved.
There seems to be no rhyme nor reason to reviews which haven't been approved. They certainly aren't bad reviews.
Keep writing is my advice, I've done 60 and have 29 approved now.

Nope, I was coming on here to right the same thing. They said to allow 6 weeks for delivery.
lol the worst part is by the time we actually get out shuffles, there will most likely be a new one out (sometime in september apparently)

The postman delivered our new baby iPod this afternoon. Weighing in at just 1 gigabyte, he has one big white eye surrounded in baby blue (it's a boy). We named him Shuffle (or shuff for short). He's a welcome addition to the family.
I just notched the friggin thing has TRUELOCAL.COM.AU laser etched on the back LOL
Hope no one was planning on flogging them on eBay or re-gifting it.
