Just be aware that Pet insurance is basically only good if you get it from the start. I looked into it for my Pug and it had many hidden traps. 2 examples : 1.Duty of care- if your dog develops any issue that "could" have been prevented then its not covered. So any dental is usually not covered.
    2. Pre-existing conditions- if your dog has once had an ear infection, then generally no related ear issues in the future would be covered.

So basically you need it from the moment you buy your dog and require a full up to date history of all vet visits to be covered for anything. My conclusion was it was a waste of money.

CHOICE made it clear that PET INSURANCE Is a waste of money unless you fit within one of the COVERED pets like a 2 legged 800 year old hunchbacked camel who has an accident between 2.00am and 2.03 am on wedurfi day even 2nd week.

    • Yeah this - better off putting aside money each month for vet bills, etc. unless something drastic and expensive happens.

  • My 2c is to put what you would have paid for a premium into a savings account. Agree with comments above and the CHOICE report.

    • That's bad advice that alot of people have been following. I chose not to get insurance, bill was 10k for 4 days at emergency ward.

      • I had my pugs covered for close to 3 years and after ~$4k worth of premiums and maybe $30 refund for a claim I can honestly say there's less documentation required when applying for a mortgage!

Accidents do happen but with exercise, good diet and frequent checkups (pet insurance) is totally not worth it.

        • Look, insurance isn't perfect but if they might cover it, you'll be much better off. My dog only lives for up to 14-16 years max. At $600/year I would've only been down 8k. I've spent well over 15k in medical bills in the first year. When you see what these animal hospitals are charging, victims will not be only cleaning out their pets savings account but also their own life savings.

          Example
          1 night stay is 1.5k
1 night stay with intubation is 3k
          CT is 1.5k

This is before they start treating your dog. It's like US hospitals, they will cripple victims with bills.

  • Do you guys have a good history of paying out? You guys are suspiciously $100 cheaper than every other competitor.

  • Hi Sunny.
I have sent you a private message to your question.
