Yes, because that's what you want to hear from us ;)

    • it's coming out this yr.

I never trust Apple Gen 1 of anything :)

        • +1

You’d think that… but take a look at the last two generations of iPad Pro, with the power and USB-C bus… it’s basically a laptop motherboard already… just transplant into the MacBook shell.

          • @[Deactivated]: I guess you never went through the transition from PowerPC to x86, that wasn't fun. Not sure how powerful ARM will be in two years, but will wait and see. I know Fujitsu got to number one super computer status with an ARM core but they needed 158000 CPUs vs around 9.5k CPUs of the previous leader and were not very power efficient.

          • @[Deactivated]: makes me wonder if they would support current crop of iPad pro with new MacOS?

            @[Deactivated]: That's what @bdl said.

This is crazy money for something a $2,800 laptop would be able to match.

    • +1

      Which $2800 laptop?

I've been very happy with my Dell XPS 7590, 32gb ram, 1TB. I got lucky actually. My 9570 was faulty and since they had no stock left, they upgraded to the newer model, which meant no more nose cam, and a (supposed) ~$4500 laptop for $2399. :) It's been working beautifully and very efficiently for the past six months.

I noticed a seller selling the OLED version on eBay. Don't know why he's selling them so cheap. Only two left.

I considered buying a spare but then I thought, nah.

        • I'm kinda struggling to see the comparison. I put similar specs to this Macbook in a 7590 on dell.com.au and it's more expensive than this deal?

      • I had this one in mind given the difference between the i7 and i9 is fairly minimal.
If they bring out it with Ryzen 4900 then the price/performance point will be even better with an 8 core/16 thread processor

The thing for sale in your link is a computer. The deal posted is a computer.

That's where the similarities or comparisons stop…

          • @AaronR: Umm, ones a $3,800 computer and the others a $2,800 computer with specs on par with the macbook.

But hey it's your money 🤷‍♂️

    • Agree but you must pay more for Apple.
That's the way the world works and why Apple users feel more special tha the rest of us.
Like me, who is destined to a lowered status by using a Windows laptop.

Apple computers sell second hand for way more too. A 5-year old MacBook Pro is easily sells for $1000-$1500.

      • As much as there's a strange feeling of superiority by SOME Apple users, there's much more complex of inferiority in others.

        Proof:

Apple users feel more special tha the rest of us.

Um, that's you opinion based on probably nothing. I'd buy another MBP, because the previous two I owned lasted 6-7 years. For games and for work.

But then, thinking of having to use touchbar in my next MBP irritates me already.

        • Agree, but I have had the pleasure of dealing with Apple users, when I worked in technology.
They can be demanding users (why won't this work with a Mac?) and will usually happily pay more for the same hardware item, as long as it is from an Apple supplier. e.g. RAM, Graphics cards etc etc. Not to mention the PC equivalent in the first place.

  • that's about 15% off retail, good find (y)

  • high spec everything but no 32/64 ram …

    • Yeah, I’m a bit hesitant because of that.

      • never understood from a consumer point of view why a company would do this. The only way to get ram upgrades is to customise the laptop. but then if you customise it, you can only have a discount on gift cards… that's why this was such a good deal haha https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/532274

I don't really see any value in getting a top of the line powerful laptop anymore. All you need is to get a powerful workstation and RDP to run CPU intensive calculations. Maybe not for gaming but then who play games on a macbook.
