    "USB 3.0 Upgrage cable - $17"

What is an Upgrage ??? and why does it need a cable ?

    • +1

      UPGRAGE

    • LOL… have been wondering what these where for, didnt notice you where picking on his spelling at first..

must have a new controller interface chip in the base section, changes to a USB2 controller to USB 3 controller, should double the speed of the drive.

          at least it's not a facebook competition….

  • I fail to see how this proprietary adapter is a bargain, when you can buy a whole USB3-sata case for the same price.

    • with this you can swap sata drives rather than have them in a housing.

      • Actually no you can't, you need to buy a proprietary 2.0 housing and this 'upgrades' them to a 3.0 one.

    • Actually, one end is USB 3.0 whereas the other end is the standard SATA port for 2.5" drive. If you don't mind not having a case, you could use it as a SATA to USB 3.0 cable.

Though, you can get a 2.5" USB 3.0 enclosure for $23 (MSY).

    • It is a barain for people who already have a Freeagent USB 2 drive as it is an easy upgrade path to USB 3. I have some cheap 2.5 inch HD cases and I find the drive shacks around a bit inside the cases, whereas the sealed freeagent one feels much more solid and less likely to damage the drive as you move it about.

  • The USB 2.0 ones are $11

    • My drive came with the 2.0 when I bought it. I have been looking for the upgrade cable but it's been too expensive

  • does USB 3.0 supply power to the drive through the cable ???

    • Yes - the drive is powered by the cable

      • nice to know… thanks…

    • You can connect this cable to a 2.5" SATA hard drive, plug it into an USB 3.0 port and it will work (can also use an USB 2.0 port - but speed will be slower).

  • About 30 from OW usually

  • OW will factor delivery costs in

    • not for me - gave me the straight discount - 5% off $17
