Just a warning that you'll likely need an 8th Gen CPU to flash the BIOS before you can use a 9100F with this board

      • EVGA will ship you an updated BIOS chip if required. The board has a socketed BIOS so it can be popped out to install the updated chip.

        • Are you certain that this is still the case? It is my understanding that EVGA changed the design in their Z370 boards to soldered BIOS chips so that is no longer possible.

The manual for this board confirms the soldered BIOS design on page 18:

"The Z370 Micro features two BIOS chips soldered to the PCB"

          https://www.evga.com/support/manuals/files/121-KS-E375.pdf

          • @AussieDeals: I bought one a couple of years back from Newegg which came with 1 socketed & 1 soldered. Unsure if they have since changed the design…..

The photo on the Australia site shows 2 soldered so best assume they have changed config.

          • @AussieDeals: Just hope you or someone could please point me in the right direction in terms of getting a moderately good CPU that will still work without the need to flash the BIOS if possible please ? and hopefully at a bargain price :)

Thanks for pointing this out too ;) Just hoping I can still find an affordable alternative Intel i3 or i5.

  • So hoping to make a bargain PC out of this.

But looks like as above that it won't accept a 9th generation Intel chip without flashing it first :(

Can anyone please point me in the right direction in terms of getting a moderately good CPU that will work without the need to flash the BIOS if possible please ? and hopefully at a bargain price :)

Thankyou to the Oz Bargain community for your help :)

  • A used i3 8300, or i5 8500 would be perfectly fine for use with this board.

I see them offered for $80-100 for the i3, and ~$150 for the i5.

i3 8100’s are also listed for sale between $60-$90.

    Example:

    • Thanks heaps for your help was just hoping to purchase a new one.

Any ideas or links for what I might be able to get brand new would be much appreciated.

Just hoping to get the best outcome for price but brand new as I want to ensure everything works out well and I still have warranty.

      Cheers

      • Thinking perhaps this one but still not sure :( https://www.amazon.com.au/Intel-2-90-Turbo-Frequency-Cache/d…

        • That's a nice chip but this Z370 board will most likely require a BIOS update, before you can install the 9th gen chip for use.

If you have or know someone with an older CPU to use in flashing the board then its fine. If not, then I suggest looking for a Z390 based board.
