So CM7 does not unlock? A free unlock and I'll be all over this deal like a rash wth some cash.

    • Even if you unlock, no NextG on Telstra with this phone. You can use it on any other network that runs via optus resale. Really there is no point to unlocking.

    • I cannot find any free unlocking for this phone. It can be unlocked using DC unlocker 1.00.597+ version but you need to buy credits. There is a guy at whirlpool.net.au can unlock it for $8.

      • do you have the contact of the guy?
        I need mine to be unlocked, i m on 3 =(

Read the "Hack & Unlock" section of U8300 Wiki page at whirlpool

Here is the guy's user detail at whirlpool.

I am planning to unlock mine. Do not know if the guy is still available.

        • I'm the guy you are talking about.

Please contact me if you need unlocking. AUD $8 for bank transfer and $8.5 for Paypal

      • Ive been looking since I got it and I can't find a way to unlock it free. =(

  • Just got mine from Crazy Clark's. Pretty good phone for a backup from my galaxy tab.
Will bring this phone to the beach. Screen brightness is an issue but no big deal.
Not laggy when you remove all the widgets. Nice keypas imo

    • Presjar ,
I cannot copy the qwerty.kcm.bin as in section 4.
I used file manager and tried to copy to the folder with up arrow. But I cant find it.
P/S: I skip step 3 cos my phone keyboard layout is the same the title page.
Look forward to hear from you

    • My wifi isnt not working after flashing the rom
      I need help !
      Please

      • I had that problem, I fixed it by restoring to the original backup(stock rom) then following the guide again

        • Yeah, I fixed it by updating update1&fix permission, update2&fix permision and kernelpatch& fix permission.
          =)

    • Thanks Mate

  • Where do we find gapps? Can't seem to find it anywhere.

    • It is in the Adrenaline folder together with the updates if you downloaded it from Presjar. It is named as something like GoogleApps…

Oh, nvm I found it elsewhere.

Got CM7 update 2 on it, installed kernel patch and the keyboard settings. Rooting is a lot easier with z4root though.

Mines OC'ed to 633MHz and actually plays some basic Angry Birds levels without too much lag. Overall it's a great phone for $29.

  • I bought one yesterday.
Checked the balance today and found the $10 credit will expire if you do not recharge prior 15 Nov 2011 (1 month). My previous experience with Optus is that they disconnect service if you do not recharge in certain period after running out credit.
Therefore, there seems no chance to just keep the credit for 6 months and unlock the device for free. Well, correct me if I am wrong. A bargain anyway. Cheers.

    Hey Gents,

Just updating the U8300 Guide. I had to change from using DropBox to Fileserve.

You can find the updated links in the guide: http://www.fileserve.com/file/JuyYmaD

  • I tried 2 separate companies online and they couldn't provide me with an unlock code >:(
Gonna try the guy from whirlpool now.

  • I can't find any left in stores in SA. Appears to be sold out.

  • Does anyone know how to work the GPS on these things? I tried Navigator, but it only work properly whilst connected to my home wireless network. Normally, whilst driving and relying solely on the GPS signal it becomes a grey screen without any voice directions but it does move with the car. =( And also, is there such thing as having a 'proxy' on it? Because I tried to connect it to my uni's wireless system, but the IT dude said it only works if the phone has a proxy…I am not quite sure what he means by that either. =( I hope someone could help me on here. =D

  • very good phone, I like it!
