    This cooler is incredible.

    It's cheaper at centercom here https://www.centrecom.com.au/noctua-d15-multi-socket-pwm-cpu… @ $143 delivered

    • No am4 brackets?

      • +4

was in the box when I bought it from newegg, unsure about centercom;s stock. Noctua will send you AM4 brackets for free if you ask, but may take a few weeks I've heard.

        • +4

Correct, AM4 brackets should be in any stock from after late 2018, or you can get them free from Noctua.

        • As a time reference for people, I submitted a request for the free kit on 23/5, it shipped 3/6, still hasn't arrived.

    • +1

also, I don't see this as a deal. I bought a NH-D15 post-covid for $120 just 1+ months ago - and even that wasn't on special or anything.

      • +7

        post-covid

What stocks should we buy time traveller!

          • +4

@jasswolf: I was the one who asked politely to be corrected nor did I report you. And afaik you're the one who started the rant with that other dude.

            • -8

@gram: I'm telling you to not antagonise the person who did the work for you, not to apologise to me.

              • +6

@jasswolf: And the grounds for anyone to apologise to you are??? You have a chip on your shoulder over $3 of savings. I saw the deal, thought it was good enough to share yet you come barging in arguing with everyone. Sleep it off buddy.

                • -3

@gram: Are you reading what I'm writing or just seeing one word of a sentence and firing off? Log off.

    • odd that Centercom have it listed as "clearance". It's a little overkill for my needs, but it's truly silent, so ordered a 2nd one for a new build.

  • can this fit on the 3950x?

    • Yes, it fits on AM4 CPU slot. The issue is it has a 30% markup at the moment, so if you can wait, give it a month and it should be below $130 again.

    • +1

The question should be - 'Can this fit in my case and motherboard with enough clearance?'

Note - 2nd 140mm fan will not work with tall RGB ram modules - it will stick out and most cases arent deep enough.

      • Yep, good point.

The noctia website has clearance schematics to help answer this question.

Also, the fan can be moved slightly up relative to the fins, which will give more clearance over ram, but will also require greater case depth.

I use the LPX ram for this very reason.

    • It seems like it doesn't show AM4 socket support. So according to the description it doesn't support it.

Noctua's SecuFirm mounting systems have become synonymous with quality, safety and ease of use. Supporting Intel LGA115x (LGA1150, LGA1155, LGA1156), LGA2011 and AMD (AM3(+), AM2(+), FM1, FM2(+))

I bought the NH-D14 and the NH-D15. I have had the big Noctua coolers in my PC for the last 5+ years and their performance is epic.
    - Performance almost as good as the water coolers
    - Fans so quiet you barely hear them
    - Never worry about your pump failing or any leaks ever

Things to look out for are case size, motherboard size, GPU/RAM clearance and side of the case clearance. Noctua also make awesome low profile coolers.

    • +3

it actually outperforms water coolers, according to LTT's tests.

as you said, this cooler is massive. It'll tower over 2 RAM slots - that's how massive it is.

      • And more reliable. Was always the story with the D15. The only problem was whether or not you could fit it, and whether the looks didnt disturb you

      • It actually covers 4 slots after the fans are on it.

    • This is pretty much my opinion. First ever after market cooler I ever bought. Silence is my friend and I'll never go back.

  • +1

happy with my u12s, keeping my i5-8600k around 25 degrees when browing websites.

    • But they aren't really doing anything much when you're browsing websites.

How about when gaming, compressing or incompressible large files?

      • My previous h100i could make cpu hit 60 degrees in the same situation.
For more numbers, you can find a lot of review videos on youtube.

        • +1

          Wow, that's a huge improvement.

I have the d15 and I love it.

5.1ghz on a 8700k at around 87 degrees under full load.

I saw a full fps increase in gaming but took it down to 4.9ghz over summer, haven't been bothered to put it back up yet this year.

  • Best air coolers ever. Just need the space but it's worth it. They're ducking windmills.

  • Still waiting for last few parts on my PC build. Building with a Ryzen 5 3600. I know it's not high end, but any Noctua CPU cooler to recommend to run cool? I think this is overkill for my build. Plan to play some AAA games and record some music.

Not planning to overclock but undervolt.

Trying to get a very quiet build with 2 x Corsair ML fans and not sure if I should get a CPU cooler. I wish I could test the sound level with the stock cooler but again, waiting for my PC parts

    • +1

I would wait to try the stock cooler and if you can't deal with it I reccomend a hyper 212. I went with a kraken x63 and it's totally overkill but my temps are crazy and the aesthetics…

      • Thanks for the advice. Will wait till I build my PC and see how the stock cooler performs then

    • +1

The stock cooler is pretty solid, Noctua gear wouldn't be required, it just runs it cool and super quiet.

I'd wait for prices to normalise before buying though, and definitely don't get the standard recommendation of a Hyper 212 as an interim, as it barely outperforms what you get in the box. That's a hold-over from the days of everyone buying Intel , where you get awful stock fans.

    • I just built a 3600 system and was hitting 95 degrees on Cinebench with stock cooler. Perhaps my case has crap airflow.

Bought a Be Quiet Pure Rock 2 for $69 and knocked off about 15 - 20 degrees. Happy with that.

      • There's something wrong there

        • Maybe the stock cooler wasn't seated properly, or it's because I'm running a Micro ATX case, not sure.

What I was experiencing wasn't dissimilar to a lot of forum posts though.

          I'm happy enough now. Idles about 34, gaming about 55 - 60 and stress tests about 70 - 75.

    • +2

I built my computer with a 3700x in a silent build and was advised by a friend to use the stock cooler.

I don't like it. You can hear it spool up and down when the rest of the computer is almost completely silent.

I bought a NH-D15S (similar, with 1 less fan and slightly cheaper) and haven't looked back. But I wish I had it in there from the start because installing when the PC is already assembled is a PITA.

I would suggest starting with a non stock cooler from the get go if you want silence. You don't need to get this model in particular since you wont be OCing

      • Thanks for the recommendation for NH-D15S. I think I'll start with stock cooler to get the base temperature to compare with and run a few stress test after undervolting and checking if I am fine with the stock cooler.

I don't mind changing down the road and price has gone up because of covid19.

Did you use your own thermal paste with the NH-D15S or stock?

      • +1

I just built a 3700x w/ an RTX2060S and the stock Prism Cooler.
Don't think it's too bad and as far as stock coolers go it is on of the best offerings.
Guess you can still hear it, was thinking about another CPU cooler but probably don't need it while not OC. The silence goes out the window once the GPU fans start hammering, haha.

NHD-15S or Darkrock 4 $120 would be equivalent and not too big? Assume there is enough space (Meshify C) and fairly standard ram (G Skill Ripjaws V).

I wasn't going to entertain RBG at all but hooked a few up 2 would be enough but 3 looks better, yet to decide, all i know if the 2x 140mm silent wings 3 are good on the front, so a quiet CPU cooler be nice too. It's annoying the AMD Prism RBG doesn't really match the case fans (be it the fractal ones or deepcools.

Although it is the last day of the tax year, where did you get it? Would want a black one I guess.

  • Beeing waiting for the price on the Noctua NH-U12A this will do

  • +1

Wow, I bought this thing for $100 back in 2014. Seems like its going to be the Ti-82 of cpu coolers

    • it happens when people think their non oc'd cpus need to be under 65 degrees at all times otherwise their pc will blow up just from playing cod.

  • It's big, check your ram height, motherboard layout (it might get in touch with gpu),case. Also might need a gpu stand to support it or get a string to hook it up.

  • "Top of the line"
It looks practically identical to the cooler iv'e been using on my i7 2600K since circa 2011.

  • I've had this for five years now. I think I paid slightly less than this but can't recall.

I can happily say it is one of four things I have not replaced in the time I've built my desktop.

I've never bothered to consider buying a water cooled setup because this, despite its size, is just a great cooler. I'd easily buy another one if I built another desktop. I don't get the hate for it in this thread!

  • I'd probably prefer a Darkrock Pro 4, black is bit nicer on the eye (and already have 2x 140mm Silent wings 3). Fans and RGB is the biggest PITA to be honest, both the different pin and voltage types. Still need to sort out the ones i got which don't exactly match the wraith prism cooler anyway. Would prob get a AIO before one of these, not that i think room is an issue in the Meshify C.

For non o/c the AMD one is great I think, it's just bling really

  • F it, probably don't need any after market cool, or at least wait till summer to see what temps are.
Just a bit annoyed with the whole RGB thing may unplug it if running 3x case RGB fans and just use the remote thing, or just leave all on white.

Just wondering why one wouldn't just get the Dark Rock 4/Pro for $119/$139.

    • Cause this is the absolute best air cooler. Black version of this was available for 160 earlier.

      • Yeah it sounds like the best out of all the tower fans looking at reviews and general recommendations.
I could live with almost the best for a bit cheaper and not two tone brown, even if 3 deg hotter :P.
Thinking maybe even the DR4 would be enough won't be overclocking. Pro probably worth $20 more but probably limited in future builds but both should last quite a long time.

        • Ended up just ordering a Dark Rock Pro 4, bit of an overkill for non O/C 3700x but QLD gets a bit warm in summer. The 4 would have done but it's only 20$ more. Getting rid of all the RGB crap and just having a black silent wings setup. Maybe one strip light. It seems the Wraith Prism coolers are worth something to sell which will help.
