100% Bonus Points on Points Purchases over 200,000/US$358.89 (~A$523): 50% off Ascott & Citadines Hotel Stays @ Ascott

90

Since many of you are already on gold or platinum memberships, this double points deal is very good value to go with your free breakfasts.

Points work simply. Book the hotel, points will reduce the price/use all points for booking. Cheaper rate means less points needed.

The math (hopefully not wrong)

  • Min. Double Points Purchase is 200,000 which will get you 200,000 bonus points. So 400,000 points for US$358.59 (~A$523)
  • This equates to an earn/buy rate of US$0.000897225 per point (A$0.0013075 pp)

Example Booking:

  • Aug 1-2, Citadines Sydney Airport has an early bird rate of $112.50 per night
  • You will need 43,104 points to get this stay for free.
  • 43103 x US$0.000897225 = US$38.67 or A$57
  • Thus your hotel stay is roughly half off.

Ascott are Singapore based so many of their properties are based there, Asia and Europe. Given the state of the world, Australia might be a better choice:

Melbourne
Citadines on Bourke Melbourne
Somerset on Elizabeth Melbourne

Perth
Citadines St Georges Terrace Perth

Sydney
Citadines Connect Sydney Airport

Hobart
Somerset on the Pier Hobart

Flyer talk has an example of ~£80 hotel in Trafalgar Square in London which would be a great deal in a non-pandemic time.

  • Do we know the validity of the points if we purchase any?

    • 2 Years

No cap, no minimum redemption, no blackout dates. Have the freedom to redeem the points anytime within the next 2 years when you are #ReadyToRediscover travel.

      • 2 year validity is not bad but with covid19 it's really difficult to utilise the points. I am struggling to use my Marriott and Krisfly points…

  • Dammit didn't know about the Platinum status for this. Wonder how often it comes up? Also how can you check how many points is required for a room?

    • Also how can you check how many points is required for a room?

Do a test booking, select deal or rate you want (e.g. room size, early bird, etc.), then use points on checkout will have a slider.

My calculations for redeeming come out as:

      1000 points = US$1.79 (A$2.61)
      US$0.00179pp/A$0.00261pp

  • -4

That's perfect. I was just about to spend $200,000 on Eneloop batteries so this is great timing.

  • One of the worst websites. How do I even check how many points is required for a stay?

    • As above, pick a hotel, dates and see what rate they offer. Then hit the points button and you'll see how you'll need. It ends up working out as 50% off as point->$ are static.

      • $100 hotel - 38,314 points
      • $150 hotel - 57,471 points
      • $200 hotel - 76,628 points
      • Thanks, apparently I can't see it on mobile site

      • Is that the redeem points when you go to Summary & Payment screen?

        • Yes, step 2.

  • Noticed this the other day. Thanks Neil for breaking the math down better than I could when trying to work out the value. Might take the plunge towards the end of August, and speculate on travel reopening to Singapore in about 12 months time. Use locally if OS no good.
