Oh the buuurn of buying it for $225 on the last deal >.<

  • +1

This is a good deal - I was going to spend the bit extra to get the Samsung 970 EVO Plus. But this is such good value

  • +1

i really wish i needed one of these. would love an excuse to buy this.

  • How good are the WD Black NVMe's vs the EVO 970?

    • +1

Better than 970 evo ans a bit slower than 970 evo plus…

      • Thanks

      • +1

970 Evo Plus is performance better.
WD is endurance better (no. of writes).

Standard user would not notice the difference, except for the price.

  • Just built a PC with this a stage boot drive, it's so damn fast! Very small and light as well I was a bit shocked.

    • +2

Pretty much all m.2 ssd drives are about that size and weight.

  • -3

This is not the cheapest that I found, Crucial CT1000P1SSD8 1 TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD is listed at $178.3 on Amazon, but this WD black SSD has higher read/write speed than the compared Crucial SSD.
i guess I have to decide if the speed difference worth the higher price range (1GB/s difference in read/write speed).

    • +2

P1 is QLC and this is one of the fastest PCIE 3.0 TLC.

https://www.i-tech.com.au/crucial-p1-1tb-2-5-3d-nand-nvme-pc… Crucial P1 1TB 3D NAND NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD CT1000P1SSD8, Read/Write Speeds Up to 2000/1700 MB/s. This is on sale was $216 now $188 with $14 delivery total $202. Pretty good? I've never bought from these guy's before. I already have a 500GB one anyway.

      • +1

You listed the exact same SSD that bkcandra was talking about for a higher price than Amazon (and close to the price of this WD black after cashback).

Additionally, the other comments right above your comment from a few hours ago just pointed out why the WD black is a superior drive.

So in summary, no that i-tech deal is not good at all.

        • -2

But the Crucial one is faster? I would not buy any WD drives. They are not that fast of what I heard.

          • @[Deactivated]: This WD Black reads at up to 3470MB/s, way faster than Crucial P1

          • @[Deactivated]: The WD is significantly faster as stated above, also read the above comments - the WD is using TLC not inferior QLC flash that is used in the P1. In addition the itech listing is still bad as you can get the P1 significantly cheaper from Amazon with free delivery (even without prime)

            • -2

@AussieDeals: Yea, true, I looked up TLC vs QLC - QLC is the best. https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07J2Q4SWZ/ref=ppx_yo_d…
This is the one that I bought and I got lucky with my product some people didn't it was even on the news. My bench mark score as a boot drive is 220%.

              • +2

@[Deactivated]: I think you've got it the other way around in your comment. QLC is not the best, as TLC is undoubtedly superior to QLC flash from a technical standpoint. The primary benefit of QLC is that it is cheaper, but it has worse write endurance (lifespan) and is generally slower than TLC.

Nevertheless the Crucial P1 will most likely be perfectly fine for your usage and most users out there. Enjoy your SSD!

                • @AussieDeals: oh yea, I did my bad. Thanks! I'm no expert on this stuff, still learning and building computers.

  • +1

I really shouldn't have bought this. Bought it last time on sale and then cancelled it. Then bought it this morning and cancelled it. Now decided to just buy the damn thing, so I don't waste any more time procrastinating over it each time it gets listed.

      typical ozbargain boy.

  • Noobie question guys, can I use this for a laptop?

  • 23 hours too late :(

  • Is this single-sided or double-sided?

I would like to buy one for my laptop. I bought a double-sided NVME SSD before and it was too thick.

    • +1

      this one is single sided

  • +2

This or a 2tb? Not much movement in the 2tb range, maybe a covid supply constraint issue

    • +2

I have a 1tb atm.. i want 2tb. I'm just over having to worry about space.

    • +1

1TB is $219, 2TB is $576, I would rely on 2.5" drives for capacity and use only as much NVMe as you need until the high storage options are cheaper.

  • This or Kingston A2000 ? What are the difference(s)? Looking to use in a laptop, likely as a boot drive.

    • With the A2000 at $189 I'd recommend that since I doubt you'll ever need that speed on a laptop. Though the SN550 is $190, and as an A2000 owner I will say that is better. My A2000 sustains 400MB/s after 3 seconds of cache.

  • +1

I grabbed one of these on the deal last week or so.
Runs a charm and gets speeds close to the advertised spec.
I got the model without the heatsink and it seems to run cool enough. Was around 53 degrees whilst copying 200GB @ 500MB/s

  • I paid $233 a couple of weeks ago. Still close to $100 cheaper than the local comp stores. I use this as my boot drive and a 2tb 970 Evo plus as my work drive. Can't complain on the boot times.

    • Did you buy from Amazon? if yes you can ask the customer service for refund the difference / return it and buy again
no such things if you buy from Australian retailers!

      • Yeah I did. So they'll just refund me the difference if I contact them? I don't want to have to return it and rebuy though.

        • yes contact them and ask for refund the difference

  • +1

Can someone please recommend a USB enclosure for this that would support TRIM (or whatever TRIM is for NVMe)?

  • Nice, thanks. I just got the MacBook Pro NVMe adapter and was waiting for a drive to pop up. This one looks like a good pick.

  • +1

I would buy the ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1 TB M.2-2280 instead. It's $227 on amazon, free delivery with prime. It's shopping from Amazon US.

You can get 7% cashback via ShopBack - which brings total to $211 and has better results on benchmarking than the WD.

    • I've read good things about the ADATA but I'm not sure it's worth it if buying from the US, it'll be a lot harder to arrange a return or make a warranty claim if there's an issue with the drive

      • Probably worth it, though, if you're someone who posts about their NVMe SSD benchmarking results.

  • +1

If anyone is interested in speeds: https://imgur.com/a/ET7wpef

    • +3

It's worth noting when it comes to "most" NVMe drives you're comparing supercars driving in the suburbs, whilst they're technically varying in speeds, there's no practical use for the V12 supercharged engines anyway, so they're all pretty damn good.

What you should be looking at is write endurance (TBW rating, SLC, TLC or QLC), reliability (how long has it been in use), thermal efficiency (check reviews for throttling issues) and ultimately price.

If you don't actually need the 3-4GB/s read / write (keep in mind 99% of the time you will be reading and writing from a source that isn't nearly as fast), then 2.5" SSD's offer better reliability, write durability and have less thermal efficiency problems all for a lower price.

How would this compare to a Samsung 860 evo 2.5 inch?

  • -3

Anyone know if i could put this in a PS5?

  • Great price, I paid $262.87 from Amazon for this in May :< Working great in 2014 iMac 27" with Sintech adapter, probably overkill as it only supports 2 PCIe lanes but it's a big upgrade from the 1 TB Fusion drive it came with

    • Does your 2014 iMac support Gen3X4?

      • I believe it's only Gen3x2 (2 PCIe lanes) on the Late 2014 iMac 27" Retina 5K model, 2015 and later models support Gen3x4

The WD 1TB WD BLACK SN750 drive works fine in my 2014 iMac with the Sintech adapter, the 2 lanes is just limiting the read/write throughput.

  • +1

Sheesh… thought i survived resisting the EOFY deals, not at this price

    • coz new pcie 4.0 ssd is released gradually, 96 layers will be popular then…they are reducing their 64 layers products….if u need one, best time now

      • Can you clarify what you're recommending, and timefre of upgrades?

        • for me SN750 is the best choice now, because pcie 3.0 and 64 layers period is ending now,so it should be a good time 2 upgrade

          my choice in current is 1st: SN750 1TB, 2nd: SX8200 PRO 1TB 3rd: 970 EVO PLUS series

based on current price and its performance

  • price has updated to $218, a savings of $1.21!

    • +2

      now $217.59 or $206.71 after 5% cashback

  • Don't need it , don't need it , don't need it ………..Buy. Bugger no will power.

  • My 2nd M.2 slot on my X370 taichi can only run at Gen2 X4 speed. I am looking to expand my storage an extra 1TB mainly for games and/or maybe video files for editing.

Am I better off getting a m.2 or a 2.5" ssd? Does anyone have any recommendations?
