Johnnie Walker Double Black - $48.90 + ($7 Delivery) Dan Murphy Online Store (1000 Available)

400

Found this on the Dan Murphy site and got excited.

Double Black is usually only found in Duty Free, and is about the same price as Dan's have it.

It's likely this is a limited release to see the take-up before it goes on sale normally.

But if anyone can find it available, anywhere else for cheaper…then please speak up.

p.s. This is NOT my first post, so please DO NOT go easy on me…I can take it!

$59.99 for a 1L bottle in Duty Free.
Works out to $41.99 for a 700ml bottle.

Still a good price for Dan's when you factor in the cost of an International flight.

Also remember these selling for $90 on eBay not long ago…might still be time to make a quick profit.

    • +6

Yeh, quick profit providing you have a liquor licence…

    • -2

you take a flight just for this bottle?

  • +5

I hate you and you smell! (J/K)

Great find - I know plenty of scotch lovers who'll dig into this :D

  • +1

I always go easy whenever I am dealing with the tritorius.

  • Just ordered two. Nice find.

  • +6

I think that there are far superior whiskies out there for just a little bit more. Either cough up for the better stuff or just stick to Johnny Red if you're going to mix it with your coke (I prefer soda for the cheap stuff, straight up for the good single malts.) Just my opinion.

    • Soda? Really?

      • -1

I was watching TV recently and noticed that we don't call them 4WDs anymore, they are now SUVs. I guess soft drink becoming soda was inevitable.

But still, it makes me sad.

        • Never heard of soda water?
It's popular for mixing with spirits.

I prefer just a few drops of still water in my scotch, but each to their own.

But mixing with coke is a waste of good whisky. Might as well waste the cheap stuff.

        • I was watching TV recently and noticed that we don't call them 4WDs anymore, they are now SUVs.

An SUV is the small 4WD or large car, think Rav4, Xtrail

A 4WD is a Pajero, Pathfinder and the other cars which are not really designed for city use.

      • I think me means soda water

    • +1

      Correct, JW is overpriced

      • +5

JW Black for <$40, as often found at Dan's, is a very fair price for an everyday drinking whisky… if it's to your taste. And it is to mine.
You have to spend a good bit more to get a better rich smoky whisky. If you can suggest anything comparable for less, speak up. My wallet will thank you.
Of course, for anybody mixing with lolly water, don't waste money on good whisky. JW Red is more than adequate for mixing. Pretty awful to drink neat, which is where JW get their dubious reputation.
I'll be adding a Double Black to my collection for this price. Why not?

        • +1

i hope you don't mean 'everyday' literally :P

  • -8

this is more for the collectors rather than something you actually drink

    • +2

This is more for the people who like whisky and intend to enjoy it, rather than something you actually drink just for the alcohol content.

  • +4

what is the best Coke to use with this ???

    • +4

Coca-Cola Black Cherry Vanilla. But surely everyone knows this.

    • +4

RC cola of course - I hear it's what Kings drink :D

    • -6

Like I said, I don't mix with coke. But for the rednecks who do, why would buy $50 whisky?

      • +19

Of course, how dare anyone not drink it the way that you do!

        • +5

          Captain Obvious aka Sergeant Sarcastic.

        • +2

His question is why are you mixing a double black label with coke if it basically tastes exactly the same as a red label (about half the price) after mixing it?

The difference can only be appreciated when it's consumed without a mix.

      • +18

        Who you calling a redneck?
        You took our jerbs.

        • +14

          He took our jerbs

        • +5

          They took our jerrrrrrrbbbbbsss!

        • +2

          dooka derb!

        • +3

dey turk err jurbz, theeey durrrka duuuuurrr, Durka Durrr.

      • You didn't actually say that at all.

      • +6

        I don't mix with coke.

Yeah, what a way to ruin a good coke.

But for the rednecks who do

Happily mixed JW Blue Label with Coke on a recent trip in Cathay Pacific First Class, just because I could, and just to thumb my nose at whiskey snobs like yourself. (OK, I'll admit to drinking it straight first up.) :)

        • +13

          We have an imposter!

Bargain hunters never travel first class!

          LYNCH HIM

        • +4

Bargain hunters never travel first class!

They would if they didn't have to pay for any of it, like me. Work paid for a business class fare, and I was upgraded for one leg to first. :)

        • +3

unless he got a coupon for a deal to upgrade to business from economy, then charmed the flight attendants for a seat in first class :p

        • +1

Agree with soakwashrinsespin, wouldn't mix coke with blue label using my own stash but did on my Singapore Airlines flight. Before you lynch me I was upgraded to first - worked paid business, and I turned on the charm* at check in :)

*charm = chatting up + quick flash of the FF status lol

        • +7

and I was upgraded for one leg to first

and the other leg was still in business ??? :O

      • +1

        Mate, fancy a Goon Bag?

      • I feel sorry for everyone ruining black labels here too, lol.

    • +6

      Mix scotch?
Mannnn.. I suck it straight from the bottle in true redneck style!
Ya don't loose any with it sticking to the glass that way! :-)

  • +3

I was given a bottle as a gift. Overwhelmingly smokey flavour. Not a particularly balanced whiskey. But, if you've gotta catch 'em all then you may as well get it cheap.

    • +1

Correct, be careful if you have not tried this 'double black'. My mate who loves a whiskey bought one at a duty free under the impression that double black must be great, and he was tricked! In both our opinions the red is a better quality. Personal taste aside of course ;)

Possibly why its on sale at a pretty decent price! If you get one, post back here and give your opinion about how you think it goes.

    • I love trying different whiskeys when given the chance but this 'smokey' flavour is putting me straight off of it even at such a fine price.

  • Thanks.

Also if you find a sale on JW Gold, please let us know.

    • Dan Murphy's had it on sale a few weeks back - just after I bought a bottle for Mum…

  • +9

i'm waiting for Johnnie Walker Blue Label King George V to be on sale.

  • Nice find!!!! <3

  • +5
