Bought Samsung Galaxy Watch from Kogan.com, Received Wrong Item

Hey everyone,

I recieved my Galaxy Watch which was purchased from Kogan.com and it is not genuine Australian stock as specified in the listing.

It did not come with an Australian charger (European instead) and it also does not allow me to register it for warranty on the Australian Samsung website.

I actually emailed Kogan straight after purchasing, asking whether it is Australian stock and eligible for Australian warranty and I was assured by a customer service rep that it was.

What are my options? I emailed them asking to call me about it as I hate waiting days in between each reply, I just want to know what I'm entitled and able to ask for.

That's the listing, as you can see it clearly states two or more times that it's Australian stock with local warranty.

I bought it for $279 with a discount code, not sure if that's important.

You bought an item from a dodgy seller that's known to have grey market products, has poor customer support (if any response at all) and has poor practises like pricejacking for sales and profiteering during pandemic. Colour us surprised.

The only thing you can really expect is to send it back for a full refund. Good luck with that.

Not sure why the snarky comment?

I understand Kogan's reputation, but I've bought probably 20 items from there over the last 3 years and no problems ever. Two of those items stopped working within warranty limits and I recieved a replacement no questions asked within a working week.

In terms of the grey market products, they had a seperate listing for an international model, while the one I bought was for the australian model.

I'm 100% sure I'll be getting a refund, not worried about that, just curious if anyone has experienced this before and what kogan's response was.

totally agree, Kogan's products 7/10 times the products do not match description, i don't know if Kogan is being dodgy by skimping over a few bucks or their suppliers are doing it. I suggest its former.

Advice- don't buy from Kogan expensive items, too much risk.

        • Yeah probably won't after this haha. Bought TV's and monitors from them no problem before but after this, no thanks.

Where does it say that it's Australian stock?

You fell for their weasel words. Local warranty != Australian stock. Kogan will provide the warranty, not Samsung.

        "This product also comes with a manufacturer warranty;

        2 Year Samsung Warranty (Included)"

        • Sorry you're absolutely right. I searched for the text but it was in an image haha

You have a case; I would return it for a full refund.

They just won't learn, no matter how many times they get pinged for doing dodgy stuff.

I guess pricejacking is pretty lucrative these days for the uneducated.

        • Yeah for sure! Was gonna buy from Amazon for $309, but found this for $279… I think next time I'll just spend the extra $30 haha

Depending on your bank you could do a chargeback for product not as described.

  • Yep, I'm with OP on this one…. they advertised official Australian stock. Maybe you can contact Samsung Australia to confirm and take your findings to kogan…. If they don't agree, provide the proof from Samsung to paypal or bank depending on which you used….

Edit: "This Product is offered and supplied by Kogan Australia Pty Ltd pursuant to the Terms and Conditions." Can't pull their kogan HK bullsh*t either :P Not a great leg to stand on with fair trading or ACCC.

Contacted Samsung immediately and they confirmed it's European stock. Thanks for the advice!

So I think I know what happened. Spoke to another Ozbargainer about what happened and he explained that he ordered the same product from them and received an Australian version.

On both the European box and Australian box (unsure about other regions), the model number is stated as "SM-R800".

So the packing team has grabbed a European box (unknowingly or on purpose, who knows) instead of the Aussie as they're the same box.

If unknowingly then they obviously have a stupid storage system, but wouldn't be surprised if it was on purpose.

Anyway, gave put it back in the box and will update on Monday with what their response is.

  • Any update on this? Just curious.

    • Just at work, will respond tonight
