      Why doesn't it?

      • +2

Of course it serves a purpose. It's a drink. If alcohol-free beer serves no purpose, then sugar-free soft drinks serve no purpose either.

Zero % alcohol?! What's next, tits on fish?

    • Go and downvote the next Coca-Cola deal then, as it also has zero % alcohol.

      • I'll stick to Dr Pepper, you filthy animal.

      I like big breasted fish.

What an absolutly absurd price for alcohol-free beer!! Normal tax on beer is 42% so this should be more like $10

    • -1

Search Dan Murphys for regular Heineken - it's $42.98 for 12! This is 58% off that price. That more than accounts for the lack of tax.

    • just adding a premium cost, remember buying a lot of asahi 0% cans in Japan for $1.50aud, while normal can was about 2.70

What in god's name is this abomination.

  • Heineken Lager Bottles 330mL (5.0%)

Prices in Perth. For once, I learnt that somewhere else is paying more than WA :)

    $42.90 per case of 24

    $21.49 per pack of 6

    $4.84 per bottle (in store)

    • Same prices in Melb.

    To add a different perspective..

I used to think low/no alcohol beers were a joke and wonder why anyone would bother. Then I was offered one (Holsten) and figured I'd give it a try.

Against all my expectations, I actually enjoyed it. It passed as a half-decent, drinkable lager.

I enjoy the flavour and feeling of drinking beer but don't always want the effect of alcohol (e.g. Needing to drive) and these can hit the spot. I think there's somewhat an element of placebo in these, if the beer is good enough.

I enjoyed Holsten most, then these Heineken came in second. Hollandia and Carlton were pretty ordinary IMO. Weiheinstephan make one too - I haven't tried it but heard good things.

I'm pretty into beer and brew for a living, FWIW. Making a good low alcohol beer is challenging. It's not everyones cup of tea but horses for courses and whatever floats your boat and all that jazz.

    • Yeah it actually bugs me sometimes when you get stupid comments about 0% alcohol being a waste of time. For myself with a medical condition 0% is my only choice otherwise I get sick. So I'm thankful for it existing.

Like you I enjoy Holsten the most. FOR SURE.

Was actually disappointed with Heineken 0.0. Very watery.

Coppers Ultra (although not technically 0.0 - but I seem to get away with that one) is nice for a lager.

    It tastes good.

    • IMHO, I disagree… but I've never found a non-alocohlic beer that tastes any good.

  • +1

    Just noticed… Wrong category: "Alcohol"

  • -1

    0% Non-alcoholic = 100% Alcoholic

    • That's correct, but this is Heineken "0.0" - the name of the beer, not a percentage.

  • does this taste like water?

    • No, like nasty beer really watered down

  • I wonder if we can use this in making the fry fish batter. probably work just as well

  • Dry July is a thing… Only non alcohol beer I knew about was Birell at Woolies around 2010 or so. Was trying to cut down for a while. It tastes really bad, not smooth or even bitter. Definitely not close to the taste of a real beer. With Barbican and other's there is way more options these days.

  • Should have jumped on the sodastream ebay plus deal for $19

  • I might actually buy these.. sorry!!!!
Do they taste similar to the alcoholic version?

    • I'd hope not

  • Is this the counterpart of decaf coffee? Safe to have while I'm pregnant?

    • +1

Yes safe. Note, not all alcohol free beers are alcohol free. Some are 0.5%

  • Have bought these before, and I'm a big fan. Taste-wise, its a very 'malty' flavour (which I like from my alcoholic beers anyway, so winning!).

I also won't drink alcohol on more than two days a week (just a personal thing). So its nice to have a non-alc beer that I enjoy on the other days when I'm in the mood.

For those that are interested, Weinstephaner also do a really nice non-alcoholic beer (& its also available at Dan Murphy's). Enjoy! :-)

  • so many edge lords in this thread, yikes

    • I had to look "edgelord" up. Found out I wasn't one, so all good.

  • Has anyone tried the Erdinger one? How does it compare?

  • This deal is incorrectly tagged.

    It has no alcohol.
