Arguably not even worth it free

    • +9

Arguably is. Great fun playing it with mates, but everyone likes to jump onboard the internet circlejerk hate-train and not even give it a shot. The updates have fixed a ton of stuff, the Wastelanders update added a heap of free content, and it's a decent game. It still has the usual bugs (like every other Bethesda game ever), but it's definitely still worth playing if you've never given it a shot

      • +9

I've played it, it's not a good game, by fallout standards it's not even a good fallout

We wanted fallout 5 not some cashgrab half ass mmo

They did the same with elder scrolls.. took a good game and started to milk it rather than put in some effort to make a game people actually want

        • +4

But they didn't make it to replace Fallout 5? It was made for the people who'd been asking for years for a multiplayer Fallout game

          • +2

@Thefong: Exactly. There are plenty of people playing Elder Scrolls Online and Fallout 76 so there's obviously a market for that type of game. The idea that FO76 and ESO are going to replace Fallout 5 and Elder Scrolls VI is absurd.

        • +1

I'm not sure how being one of the top played MMOs for years makes Elder Scrolls Online a "half assed cash grab". Yes Fallout76 had a lot of problems on release and yes, Bethesda should've done better. Also yes, they should stop re-releasing Skyrim and more single player games would be great. That doesn't mean that the game as-is, point in time, is terrible. I think this is a case of more salt than Nonna's prosciutto.

          • +4

@krazynayba: I never said ESO was half assed just milked, F76 however I stand by that being crap & half assed.

            The rest I agree with

      • +5

Not sure why you're being downvoted. Have an upvote for offering first hand experience rather than a typical bandwagon response.

        • +1

Agreed - I was disappointed with both games. I upvoted you but its still -3. (lol)

      • +1

Agreed, the Wastelanders added and fixed quite a bit.
I just didn't have a single friend playing it and joining with randoms was a bit of a sad affair.

      • Honestly the launch poisoned it for me. I spent 160 bucks for my partner and I to play this and it was a boring and empty POS.

We just can't bring ourselves to launch it even when we already own it.

    • +2

You couldn't pay someone to play this game

      • I’m gonna try it for free, but if you are gonna pay also 😜

    • +3

It's a game made to be shit so that you can fix it by paying more money.

People will say any old rubbish is "great fun" even when it's made to be shit until you pay more money.

      • What? All updates/ expansions are free. These bandwagon responses are getting more and more nonsensical.

    • It's actually really good now. I didn't play it pre-re-release. But I can say it feels like a full co op fallout game now

  • +2

    I'll pass on that 😚

  • +11

    "worth" $54.99, indeed…

  • +3

This game is awful, it will be a waste of Hard Disk space.

    • +2

Have you played it since wastelanders came out? It's a proper co op fallout game now. Npcs, stories and quests everywhere now

  • -8

    Worth 2 dollars

    • -2

What is your logical reason for a neg?

      • -4

Worth AU$54.95, is a lie. it sells for 2 dollars lol.
NVM 1 dollar. proof here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/543953

        • -3

That doesn't come with the expansion….
If you cant afford free then dont comment

          • @MEGASERVE: title is misleading, this is not a deal, gamepass costs more then one dollar.

          • +2

@MEGASERVE: Wastelanders was a free update for all players.

    • stop crying for 2 dollars. you can make 2 dollars in 5 minutes if you work any job.

      • -6

        title is misleading
        calmdownfanboy

WORTH needs to be changed to 1 dollar or at least 9 dollars or less.

        • -1

          first world problem?

        • +5

Price is what i found on the Microsoft page if you were to purchase it through there - which is where the deal is offered.

If you think im going to try and find the current cheapest price anywhere in Australia and update the worth just to appease you, you're wrong.

          • @TightTerry: yep quote the rrp and show the biggest saving….

  • +1

How many of you have played it since the Wastelanders update? I've heard a lot of positive comments post Wastelanders so the game is potentially not as bad as what you're all saying.

    • +1

Too little too late, how long has it being since release day to make it better?

      • +5

No Mans Sky missed the ball when it first released, it is now a fantastic game.
All you have to loose now is a little time and bandwidth to try Fallout 76.

      • -2

18 months from release until Wastelanders.

Plenty of people are still playing games from 10-20 years ago on a daily basis so what's the difference?

      • One year it took them. And it isn't too little. It's a huge change.

    • +3

I've heard similar. Will give it a go.

      • +1

It feels like a proper fallout game now. Just co op.

    • +3

I've played it since then, it's far better with actual characters to interact with. Some of the stories and characters are kooky, it's pretty good.
Not sure if it's just me, but some of the quests had you go into some unexpectedly high level areas that I survived only with cheese, so maybe there's a grind involved between that I missed.
They've also gone the route of Season Passes so that may rub some the wrong way. Those can be ignored.

  • +2

    Almost hell, West Virginia

  • +3

If you enjoyed Fallout 4, you will likely get some fun out of this.
The Wastelanders update did add a lot to the game and I got a good 100 hours out of it.
Yes it has the usual Bethesda bugs and a crappy engine, but the exploration that makes their games so great is there.
Since you can't save / reload whenever you like there is a reasonable sense of danger as well.
End game wise I haven't really played much. I don't expect there is a hell of a lot there, but the ride to the higher levels is enjoyable.

  • +8

Love the OP's description "Game is pretty average, but meh its free"

should be on a poster somewhere :D

  • Played it when it was free on Steam after the wastelanders update. I was never a big fallout guy, but this game was fairly fun, and pretty fallouty. Didn't buy it afterwards, mostly because I didn't have time to play it.

  • +1

The Wastelanders update has definitely changed the game for the better.

It's still not on par with previous Fallout's, but its a massive improvement and definitely worth the download if you already have Game Pass.

There's going to be a lot of bandwagon negative comments who are rightly very pissed off at Bethesda, but Wastelanders is definitely worth a second go.

Start with a fresh set of eyes and enjoy it. Don't expect previous Fallout gripping storyline, but still better than it was.

  • Sunk many hours into this game, even paid for it, even pay for Fallout 1st! Add Nuclear Winter into the mix (Battle Royale-lite), Wasterlanders, etc and there is fun to be had. It isn't Fallout, but it's set enough in Fallout folk lore to have fun, even on your own. Had a number of random PUG's recently and it makes me want text chat more, but emoji chat will suffice for now!

At least it's not as depressing as TLOU2!

  • 16 times the details 😂😂😂

  • Tell me lies tell me sweet little lies 🎶

  • Fun game if you know what to expect. It's not Fallout 5, nor is it meant to be. But fallout 5 is after starfield and TES6, so this is all you're getting for a while.

  • Wish me good luck everyone, free fallout 76, should I prepare for anything before my luck runs out.

    Oh boy…

  • +1

Been there since beta, played for 4 months, left because of end-game content absence, returned for Wastelanders, played for 3 weeks, got disappointed and probably will delete it soon.

    • main quest line: decent, typical Fallout

    • exploration and atmosphere: amazing, Bethesda at it's finest

    • Wastelanders: boring AF, freshly added content & quests are boring and not engaging at all. Enjoyed a first few quests for a new ally system, but it quickly became a snoozefest.

    • July Season (Captain Cosmos): mindless grind, not worth it.

Probably worth $10 for the main quest and exploration factor (I love how there is a story with every skeleton and every building, locations are amazing, each biom is absolutely fantastic with it's own craziness, Appalachia is mesmerisingly beautiful), but as a game - it's a miserable fail.

  • I've enjoyed it since the Wastelanders update. Recommend if you got friends that you can convince to come play too.

  • Bought it for about $15 a while back and I’ve gotten about 150 hours out of it so far - it has plenty of flaws but it can be a fun escape if you want to chill out solo.

  • shame it dosnt have profile share from Xbox to PC :(

Good to know its linked with the Bethesda.net profile if you have played on PC at all,
