A overhead sensor light in front of main entrance door

I need to install a overhead sensor light infront of my main entrance and outside of that main door. I was thinking to call an electrician and install a wired one but wondering if there is any good option for a battery operated one?

Thanks

  • I saw an Arlec Battery powered sensor light supposedly 800 lumens at Bunnings. Can't find it on their website (it might be new). It was about $40 from memory. Might be an option for you.

I'm not sure a battery powered one would last very long and will probably end up driving you nuts changing the batteries…

    • I got a battery powered one from Aldi about two years ago and I’ve only replaced the AAs once. It’s not the brightest light, but it’s perfect to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night without walking into walls or turning on extremely bright LEDs.

It’s been perfect for that use and I’ve been looking out for more from Aldi for a while but haven’t seen them.

Does it get sun? Have you considered a solar one?

  • +1 for Solar powered LED light. Or you could get a battery operated PIR sensor that works with TUYA like this and pair it with a smart globe.

  • Thanks guys, does Xiaomi offer any product to meet my requirement?

  • Is there already a light fitting there? Could you use one of these auto-sensor light globes? https://www.bunnings.com.au/philips-8w-warm-white-led-light-…

    • Thanks, but unfortunately there is no light or socket nearby, thus I'm thinking about battery operated option.

    • I had no idea these existed….. off to Bunnings i go! It solves my issues of always leaving my outside lights on as they dont have a sensor!

      • Be aware there are two versions, PIR & radar.

The radar ones can pick up movement thru doors etc, so aren't always suitable.

        • Concur. I bought one for our under stairs cupboard. It kept activating any time someone walked down the stairs above it. It is gone now.

    • You can get solar versions of those as well.

  • I got some of these cheap from a friend and they work well. Plus, they have replaceable 18650s so I can always swap them when the cells get old and don't charge anymore.

(they sell different sizes and colour temperatures depending what colour and how much light you need)

    • That's not a light

      • Lol!

Ahh, sorry guys, didnt realize its not a light.
