This is a very mediocre HD (720p) camera released back in 2013. So not the latest or the greatest. And it has been cheaper before but given the current shortage and price gouging I think this is a reasonable price for a branded webcam. There are plenty of YouTube reviews if you want to see the video quality.

Harris Technology website has the business version of this camera for $45, but when you add shipping it ends up costing more.

    Really selling it there.

    • I have this cam i bought eons ago, works fine on my sons computer for when we were in lockdown and remote schooling. Better than some laptop webcams and the included mic is clear too. Is it worth $50? thats the million dollar question having not compared against any newer models and pricing then who knows.

    • LOL, I know. I need a webcam urgently, given the current lockdown (Melbourne) this was the best I found. Video quality of most other cameras selling for twice as much looks very similar, so I thought this isn’t too bad.

Use your android/iphone as a webcam, quality is way better and doesn't cost a thing!
Can be done over Wifi or USB.

    • Wouldn't the audio be delayed (especially if using a microphone instead) and the video?

      • +1

Worked pretty good for me, use USB connection if possible if latency is an issue.

Same here, I use DroidCam with USB connection + cheap headset for mic+spk, best web camera I ever had.

Have already tried few of those apps, while the video quality is certainly a lot better, usability is terrible.
For one unless you have the app and the client running all the time using a phone to answer incoming video calls with short or no notice is not possible. These apps also take a fair bit of resources to run, which will heat up your phone and drain the battery quite fast. Pretty sure if you start using a phone app 8 hours a day every day you’ll wear out the battery pretty quick. Finally its difficult to prop up the phone on a good angle without a holder.
Given all that I’d rather spend $50 on a mediocre webcam than mess around with a phone app.

      • agreed - i was using EpocCam on my iPhone the first few weeks (works great btw) but became a hassle after a while due to the reasons you mentioned… so ended up just picking one off Amazon for around $80.

You can also try using your regular photographic camera as your webcam, using a USB video capture card, which costs about $30.

I can't tell how good that is yet, because the capture card I bought is still floating in a ship coming here.

      • Same problem - is your consumer happy with having its shutter open for hours at a time, and do you have a seperate plug in power source to keep it going, and then do you have room on your table to put a mini tripod to hold it?

        • Yes, yes (hooked up to a smart plug so I can turn it and the lights on at the same time) and sorta, I'm using a clamp mounted pole. I'm very happy with my Canon M50 "webcam".

  • Surely the prices of webcam should've come down by now

Unfortunately not, probably supply chain issues getting new stock in.

  • I have this for my everyday use, bought it couple of months ago, It works as expected and should be more than enough good for all your meetings and everyday stuff. May not be the best for blogging or those kinds of use cases.

  • You had me at mediocre

  • for mediocre product still expensive

It's cheaper at Officeworks - same model. Although really surprised with the price gouging at MSY/CPL for this unit (70 bucks)

    • OP talks about a shortage on webcams, and I can find OW stock for this camera anywhere.

    • Its not available at OW, has been out of stock for months (I know because I was checking).

  • I am also looking at webcams atm for my desktop, any idea what this one would be like?

It's $79.95 plus delivery, but at least is 1080p quality at 30fps.

  • don't get this cam.if you use Teams, it cannot workout the light so you are dark always, I needed to get a lamp in my face just to use this

    • +3

      Mine works great with Teams

All basic fixed focus cameras will adjust exposure based on the entire video frame. Therefore if you sit in front of a bright window or some other light source behind you then your face will appear dark. You need to control the light behind you. Its same for pretty much all cheap cameras including majority of webcams built into laptops.

  • Bought this webcam for $30 from MSY in 2015. Its decent, but my next webcam will be a FHD or 4K Logitech one for sure

  • Crazy, I have this webcam in a box somewhere.. haven't used it in years! what is this doing on Ozbargain at this price?

  • I had a need to use one at home and had this one stored away for years. It works perfectly fine for general web cam sessions. I only use it for 720p video so not sure about the audio performance.

  • some user reviews complain about Win10 compatiblity

    • No problems on Win10 for me.

  • I have one of these in my old electronics box.

  • Used this one heaps of times and is great. Nice quality and light levels. almost impossible to get any cams currently.
    Most are $80+
    Great for the price
