Adjustable DE Safety Razor + 10 Blades $22.95 Delivered @ Vshod.com

250

It’s my son’s birthday soon and I thought a good gift would be to introduce him to shaving with a safety razor. After casting about I found that my favourite place for double-edge razor blades, Vshod.com, also sells an affordable razor that has the added bonus of being adjustable as well. (There’s a plain DE razor on Amazon which is cheaper but the build quality seems a bit suss and it’s not adjustable.) Included with the razor are 10 blades which appear to be the POL Silver, but the black version shows Treet blades instead. For $32.95 you can get a stand to hold your razor, too, and 15 blades. I’ve tried the POL blades and don’t think they’re great, so while you’re there get some BIC Chrome Platinum blades instead. Out of the sample pack I ordered last time I’ve personally found them to be great, and they’re some of the cheaper ones to be had at $1.40 for 5 blades.

In my last post for Vshod.com there was some concern the site is not secure. Rest assured that upon checkout you’re redirected to a secure PayPal page so you’re not entering any personal details into an unsecured site. They also offer free shipping on all products, whether it’s a single packet of blades or the full kit.

Been buying my DE blades from this store since you shared it last year. Great prices and awesome service. Thanks for making me aware of it OP.

    • how are the sharpness of these compared to gillette 3blue- i use the gillettebut often have to replace one after 4-5 shaves?

      • +2

I don’t know about the POL blades but if you want to see actual measurements of several different brands then check out refinedshave.com. This blog is run by a guy who’s a materials engineer so he actually has the skills and equipment to quantify sharpness. After I’d decided the BIC blades work the best for me I was pleasantly surprised to find that he’d done a review of them and agreed with my own assessment.

Is definitely sharper, there are various different brands of blades that are sharper or duller of course. Shaving with safety razor blades tend to take a little more time and is really easy to cut yourself as you start to learn to use them. They will give you a much closer shave though. They might also need to be replaced after 4-5 shaves having said that is a ton cheaper.

You definitely can't go wrong with these to figure out if is for you though.

  • or you just introduce him to beard oil …

  • the site doesn't inspire shopping confidence in me. little details, no abn

I'm not a fan but this store is loved by many shaving enthusiasts. It's legit.

    • Yeah the site is horrible to use but I've spent a couple of hundred bucks through them recently with no issues. The owner is looking at a new site. But all prices are including express shipping to your door

The Bic blades are $8.78 S&S at amazon for 100

    • Any idea how they compare to the Astra Blades?

Not that i need any have barely used 10 out of 100… lol

      • Depends on which Astra blades you get. The guy at refinedshave.com (see link above) reviewed two Astras and found one to be good and other not so great, but still prefers the BICs.

      • +1

Very much personal preference. I loathe both Astra blades but my younger brother loves them so I wouldn't buy a heap of them based on someone elses opinion.

    • What do you pay in shipping, though? I always struggle with Amazon because even though the price is amazing you still have to get over $39/$49 or spring for Prime just to get free shipping.

      • I have Amazon prime so i don't pay for shipping… unless if an item is not fufilled by Amazon or is international & doesnt meet the free delivery price.

  • Both options saying sold out for me

Aliexpress sell the same razor branded as QShave. You can land it for around $15.80.

  • +5

This is the Qshave/Ming Shi razor and it is very good for the price. Possibly cheaper from ali express and an engraving option. Might not make it in time for the birthday though. https://qshave.aliexpress.com/store/2164101

    • I've not used AliExpress before and I can't seem to see PayPal option?

      • PayPal is not offered. They have their own system of buyer protection.

        • Ok, thanks for the reply!

          • @Schmatt: Plus your card provider may be able to assist with any issues.

    • +1

What’s shipping like these days? I thought Ali Express was knocked about by COVID-19 pretty hard.

      • Depends on which shipping option you choose. Have had stuff in 10 days recently.

        • Estimated Delivery: 20-41 days but as @Steptoe mentioned above, it can be quicker. In regards to brushes, people recommedn the Yaqi brand and there is an Australian based seller.

    • Thanks. This set looks perfect.

  • Does anyone know how the DE and or BIC blades mentioned compare to the Shark Super Stainless?
I'm using them now on a Parker 96R. Wondering if I am going to get much of a different experience with this setup?

I don't mind the Parker but it's not adjustable.

    • Purchased this trial pack - https://www.amazon.com.au/Double-Edge-Razor-Blade-Sample/dp/… and made notes on the different blades. The BIC weren't a standout. I ended up with Shark as I had less irritation. Feather blades with the Qshave razor set to level 3 for first two passes then lower to level 2 for final pass gave a nice shave. Note that everyone will have different experience with blades which is why a trial pack is recommended.

From my reading, the lather is also very important. Get a good lather product and brush.

      • Get a good lather product and brush.

Those are something I don't have. Any recommendations?
I've just been using shaving gel, which I know is not ideal, haven't even tried a bar of soap tbh because we use shower gel & liquid hand soap so don't even have any bars of soap in the house.

        • Lather product I'd recommend Cella https://www.beardandblade.com.au/products/cella-shave-cream-… or https://www.shavershop.com.au/proraso/shea-butter-tube-shave…. There are the pricier soaps as well.

Brush I went with a Yaqi https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32862170868.html?spm=2114.12… but you could look at boar or synthetic as well.

          • @relentless: How long on average would the tub of Cella last, if I was shaving every 2 days?
            I don't have a beard, I keep clean shaven.

            Cheers

            • +2

@bonezAU: New to DE shaving so couldn't give you an average. Had mine for a year, rotated with a few other soaps and shave every so often. I've made a 1cm dent in the tub. Guessing you could get 6 months - 12 months as you don't need much. It does come in a 1kg block where you could split costs with others - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Cella-Shaving-Soap-Block-1kg-/26…

My preferred method is to wet the brush lightly, load the soap for about 30 seconds then apply directly to the face. Then lightly dip the brush in water and make paint strokes on the face. After a while when the soap is thinned out, scrub/swirl it in then good to go.

Note that Cella is tallow based and you may not like it. Perhaps try another soap.

        • +2

Tabac shaving soap is my favourite these days. Love the smell of it (and the aftershave), but it just works with my skin and hair. Really lathers up nicely.
Prefer it in the stick form, because that way don't have to create the lather in a bowl first. Although the tub is fine too.

And from memory, the Speick soap stick worked pretty well for me too, and was also reasonably priced.

Didn't have much luck with Mitchell's Wool Fat soap though, could never seem to get a good lather out of that, even though it gets rave reviews. May not have given it enough of a chance though.

Also liked a few of the Taylor of Old Bond Street creams too back before I decided I preferred soaps. Not that there's anything wrong with cream.

And what works for one person may not be ideal for someone else, so you do have to try a few different things to figure out what works best for you.

        • +2

Cella has a strong marzipan scent and isn't for everyone, I personally can't stand it. Proraso has a nice scent but not the best soap going around unless you go for their Single Blade cream range in Azur Lime, Cypress & Vetyver, or Wood & Spice.

Gillette Pure is a great performer that you can pick up at most supermarkets, otherwise, check out the RazoRock shave soaps on VSHOD, cheaper than others but are a decent entry soap before you go full artisan soap for performance.

Yaqi brushes are probably the best bang for buck brushes in Aus at the moment and a great entry-level brush

      • That sample pack is expensive for the small number of blades you get, ideally, you would want 5 of each to give them a good run. The beard and blades ones are good value with 30 blades from 5 brands @ $12

    • +1

Adjustable isn't the be all end all, in fact, I much prefer my Game Changer .84-P over my Rockwell 6C and MingShi 2000S (Qshave adjustable).

I've heard mixed reviews on both but never that someone loves both, usually one or the other, or hates them equally.

As for the Treet "Black" blades, those I haven't heard a good thing about.

My go-to blades consist of; Rapira Platinum Lux, Euromax, Derby Usta, Voshkod, Feather, Rapira Super Stainless, Gillette 7 O'clock Super Stainless

  • Thanks OP. Got one.

  • Black one is saying sold out when I go to check out…. Damn

  • Both saying out of stock now

    • +1

I grabbed this also from Aliexpress $20US for the complete kit…

  • Technically everyone should now save money on shaving

  • I've got this razor, its a Merkur Futur clone and works pretty well. it's a Ming Shi 2000s or Qshave adjustable, depending on who brands it. VSHOD prices are inclusive of express post australia wide

  • For anyone with concerns about the site, VSHOD's ABN details are here all products are shipped express through AusPost, all payments are made through paypal and the owner is super responsive. You will not have any issues, other than the occasional product being out of stock despite saying instock, and refunds are generally within an hour of purchase.

Plus, with every order they usualy give you some free blades or soap depending on the size of the order.

  • +1 vote for vshod in general.

I just bought a few packets of blades to try out a few I had not yet tried.

Shipping was express post, free and dispatched same day I ordered. The price of the blades were the blades were the best I've seen. Also got a bunch of free blades and alum (I think, they are Turkish) sticks to try out.

I will definitely be a return customer.
