  • Good value for anyone considering a well specc'd lappy

  • +3

Gr8 price & Gr8 Specs, only dislike is the old aluminium frame of HP gets very hot…

    • I have the same frame and mine doesn't get hot, it stays warm even when playing games like BF3 and Portal 2.

      • We get a LOT returned due to overheating and the Aluminium frame creates a DOME and capsules heat like no other, hence they moved back to creating their old plastic frames… ;)

        • who are we?

        • HP

        • +8

          We. Are. Spartaaaaaaa

      • yep mine gets hot as well

        HP dv6 + i7 = not a great mix

        • the new i7's don't run too hot though in my DV6.

        • +1

          wow you're very lucky

however i've had mine on for about 3500+ hours, and only bought it early-middle of last year

        • +1

+1 Issh, however mine is the i5 version and the fans are blasting away like there's no tomorrow.

Having said that though, if you switch to power saver mode it's whisper quite (however performance decreases dramatically).

      • i have an older dv5, and it still gets hot as hell (plastic casing makes no difference)

worth getting a laptop cooler, Logitech n100 is nice

  • +1

i really like how these notebooks put 2gb video ram when even desktop graphics hardly use that much.

    • Marketing. It's all about the numbers.

    • -2

incoming negs! its a good deal though, instant +

  • Why so many sales on the DV6? Seems like every second laptop deal is a DV6?

    • Clearance from HP I'm guessing. Either way, they're great value.

  • why " 2 Headphone out (Stereo)" ? two ?

    • So two people can listen?

    • It's got quad speakers, maybe ties into that for 4.0 out? Just guessing here…

      • it's not.. it's just double'd

and neither one of the ports = optical out unfortunately =\

    • +2

so you can listen with dr dre

      • ^ This, but in all intents and purposes it's meant so that 2 people can listen on 2 different headphones.

Nice feature I might add, this was the same with the DV6-2000 series as well as previous series before that. Too bad they skipped it on the DV6-3/4000 series 'sigh.

    • my one is a dual, but one of em doubles as a mic input

not hp, but might be same

  • its says the coupon is not valid…
    am i doing something wrong??

    • +1

same here…I can't seem to get it to work

      • +1

        It will works after 9.pm
        Be reaaady fellas

    • +5

According to the rep from the other thread the offer starts 9PM tonight.

      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/55055?page=1

"Promotion will schedule to start at 21:00pm AEST tonight"

      • thanks mate…
reading the deal properly would have been helpful…

        • agreed!

        • +1

lol already had it in the title and description, but added it again on the second line which should now read "AFTER 9pm AEST.."

  • wow nice specs

  • No gigabit ethernet? I thought that was a standard from a few years back.

  • could someone who already has one pls clarify if the lan is only 10/100

A quick google search for "HP DV6-6146TX" answers your question.

      Yes, it's 10/100.

      • +1

The suggestion is that the official specs are wrong, given every other DV6 has gigabit. Hence he wants someone who has received the laptop to check.

billymm, mine should arrive tomorrow and I'll try and check then.

    • I have one. How do I check though?

      • start -> control panel-> device manager -> network adapter.
        read out what it says.

        • Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller???

        • oh, thats not enough. Anyways, does the box says any specs for the card like: 10/100/1000

  • +1

    whats the battery like ?

  • +1

I would only really consider this if it included a minimum of two years warranty. Maybe the rep could work something out for us!

  • It's a $50 saving from 'normal' prices…. or 5.5% percent off…..

    http://www.shopbot.com.au/pp-hp-pavilion-dv6-6146tx-i7-2630q…

  • I bought mine from Shopping Express on Saturday ($850) and it arrived today. Still setting it up but it looks good so far.

    • can u confirm the ethernet card to be gigabit?

      • Can you tell me how to find that information ?
I know the HP website said it was gigabit but not sure where to look to confirm.

        • If you can look in the device manager to find the model number of the LAN chip then we should be able to tell from that. Best way of course is to just plug it into a gigabit port, but not everyone has access to that :)

        • Some additional info
The LAN is a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

  • Bidding war…..$845 5yr warranty for $90 you will need it for HP…my old dv9000 died thanks to freaking nvidia, this is ATI…

The warranty part is quite a good thing over shoppingexpress. Otherwise, 5 dollars was not a deal breaker.

    • yeah i take it back.. they charge for paypal payment.

      • yes, that is really bad. What they want is to transfer money electronically without any charge.

    • +4

      Thanks gagans,

Unfortunately we do not have 3rd party warranty at this moment. At the same time, well said about the $5 thing and thanks for the support :). I am glad our level of service has not disappoint you at this point of time. As mentioned in previous post:

more great deals from shopping express will keep coming to ozbargainers fans with the great support shown so far.

      • +1

you are welcome shoppingExpress. If service is good, it spreads with word of mouth and if its bad, it spread more quickly. I have good experience with u guys and if others do have, we love to share it with others.

Thanks, we will try our best to stay away from the hall of fame. Even if there are some issues in future, just bear in mind: some misunderstanding might just be a phone call away. We are ready to assist and resolve when in need of help.

  • does shoppingexpress offer any additional warranty?

    • +1

For those that feel they will be using this laptop for 5 years, it might be a good thing to have extended warranty. For those that are good in selling and buying upgrades, it is your choice.

  • +1

reading some whirlpool threads U-nited warranty service is pretty average. It was a pain in the @$$ to wait and get to 100 votes!! Don't do that again!! Plus it's a bit frustrating waiting for something that is in stock.

  • -1

Nice specs. Shame about the resolution though (else i would jump on this)

  • THIS JUST IN NO PAYPAL FEES >..Yeah buddy…

Well guys I couldnt handle the pressure and from past experiences at 9pm stock will be 0 in .000000001 seconds at shopping exprees,,,so I just went through the checkout process in it spot as I was never going to buy without warranty..to my surprise it was $935 total with paypal..so they either forgot to charge fees or they are listening and remove them… either way… wink wink keep asking…..im off to see hardcore pawn and american pickers..

    in short
•$935 free delivery, 5yrs warranty using paypal

    may the best bargain win..

  • I tried to order a few extra hard drives using the ozbargain1 at check out for free shipping and I got the following

    Any idea's?

    • It seems you have chosen another method other than Australia Eparcel. Try again?

Good responses from store rep - good feedback

    • +2

agree I am impressed by the level of customer service offered from the store rep to the point where he was posting after business hours…thanks shopping express rep!

  • I placed an order Sunday morning (16 Oct) and haven't received it yet. I'm living in Adelaide. They gave me a tracking number and using it at Auspost website says this:

17/10/11 23:53 (Time) Accepted at Sortation Facility (Activity) SYDNEY PARCEL FACILITY OPNS (Location)

Never thought it would take this long to arrive. Called Auspost and they pulled out the same info and added it seems that the parcel hasn't arrived in Adelaide.

    • I'm in the same boat. In Hobart though. Has been showing the same thing all week, I just assumed that it's AP tracking issue:

17/10/11 17:11 Manifest accepted ALEXANDRIA BULK LODGEMENT CENT

It's a Public Holiday here today, so won't come. But I would expect it to arrive tomorrow. No excuses really.

      • Hi Kouta43,

Please let us know if there is a need for us to step in and contact Auspost. The best way is to pop a mail to our customer support at mail@shoppingexpress, and if urgent, give us a ring at 02-83388899.

        • +1

Thanks. But it's not a problem with you guys. My beef here is with Australian Post. In all honesty, I was expecting it some time this week, probably today if it wasn't a public holiday. I'm very surprised the Adelaide person hasn't recieved theirs. I'll defenitely follow up though if it hasn't arrived by Monday arvo.

        • cheers, let us know if you ever need our involvement.

    • Hi OW,
      Please provide your order number?

      Also, please note:
Auspost will usually update the status on their tracking website at a later time than when an item has been loaded into the truck of the driver, and our manifest submitted to them. Therefore, your item was dispatched by us earlier than 17/10/11 23:53 (Time) for sure. We will try contact Auspost and see what is going on, but please understand: we do not have authority to request Auspost to speed up their delivery, therefore we cannot promise you 100% that you will get a positive response from our investigation.

      • Don't worry about it I think it's getting delivered today =) tracking from Auspost says it's on board with driver. Shall find out when I get home from work. Thanks for the support, appreciated.

i ordered mine on Saturday morning and got it at 4pm on Thursday. considering that it took a few days just for my bank to send the money, i guess its pretty fast, but i'm in Brisbane. it looks better than it did in the pic and works very well. haven't had the overheating problem yet but the fans can be pretty full on if you're doing something big like running the virus scan or paying a game. but its pretty easy to just go into the power plan advanced settings and change the fan properties. after i did that it was insanely quite and didn't make a peep.
my major tip for people who bought this laptop like me is to make full use of the switchable graphics, switch all the less graphics intense programs (like office, word, IE, etc) on power saver and the computer will automatically use the integrated graphics saving you a tonne of battery life. switch all the intense programs like games, video editing and CAD software to high performance and the computer will automatically use the 2GB ATI 6770 graphics card giving you some very satisfying performance indeed.

for the slightly more advanced, don't forget to go to msconfig.exe and remove the unnecessary start-up programs, you can also change the number of cores being used during bootup to 8. it should speed up the start up a bit.
Hope it helped - cause i'm going back to my game of Crysis :P

    • Long awaited question for you, I think, you will be able to answer. Can you find out the speed of ur ethernet card. I am sure, it is gigabit 10/100/1000 and not the 10/100.

    • Thanks for your detailed and useful review. A review of this product in our site will be appreciated :). and anyone that reads that review, will get to know a bit more about it.

  • +1

its definitely 10/100/1000 or GBE - gigabit ethernet (a gigabit per second). i would have been Very Very surprised if it had 10/100 ie Fast Ethernet - which is seriously outdated. i think 10/100 came out 15 years ago only to be replaced by GBE 3 years later. in other words, you have no chance in hell of finding a laptop with 10/100 nowadays so you don't have to worry about it dude, we're definitely getting the good stuff lol

  • +1

Went with this despite the 5 bux difference. Sweet deal nonetheless.

    • Thanks for the support. There is something coming up for you guys that purchased this laptop. Don't worry :). At the same time, you might not want to miss out the Samsung 2TB USB 3.0 external deal on our 24 hour deal (ending in 3 hours+ 11:50am AEST)
Buy the drive (on same order), use coupon code: ozbargain1

Just ordered one using PayPal. Hopefully will get next week and will surprise my wife. :)

    • thanks, it should be dispatch by today. So far all laptop purchased and paid the past 2 days were dispatched on same day.

      • +1

        Awesome, Thanks a lot.

  • +1

Thanks ShoppingExpress, my laptop was delivered today. :-) Interestingly, there is a sticker on the parcel saying 'Road Transport Only' - 'Not to be delivered by air'. Not really sure of AP's reasoning behind this. Maybe it would have been delivered too quickly by air, they have a rep to uphold afterall. lol

    • +1

I think it's to do with the batteries - ie, they're not safe to deliver by air or something. Dunno if that's always adhered to though.

    • thanks!

  • +1

Yeah got mine too today and I just ordered Wednesday evening. Not bad Shopping Express! Cant wait to set it all up.

    Same sticker on mine!

    • no worries mateys :). Would be good to vote the deal up?

      • And I just did. I sent an email to you (or to Shopping Express) just after buying it last Wednesday. I wanted to find out if I could purchase extended warranty after the purchase (ie. now). Is that possible and if so, how much.

        • yes and definitely, it will be posted here once it is available. details and options will be revealed shortly. :)

  • +1

Thanks for all your efforts ShoppingExpress rep - warranty would be great! Despite the nice build quality of this piece you never know what'll happen so the extra 50 or 100 bucks for another 2 years peace of mind is definitely worth it. This has turned out to be one my best online shopping experiences - keep up the good work fellas : )
