  • wow…!!
    this is difficult, another deal

  • Ah well, if only it'd been posted on Friday :)

  • Smart… immediate, $5 less, no coupon and offering extended warranty at a reasonable price…

    Although appears as $848….

  • The big unanswered question still is……….. 10/100 or 10/100/1000?

With all these hundreds or even thousands sold to ozbargainers, has anyone come up with a definite answer on this yet??

    • -1

It's the former. Strange I know.

    • +2

I'll check for ya mate. Just tell me how..

      • I dont know how to check :(

        • Follow what molloch says. To get to device manager open

Control Panel (in category view) Hardware & Sound -> Device Manger
Control Panel (With all icons showing) -> System -> Device Manger (top left corner in blue pane)

Post the name of the adapter and we might be able to work it out. It might say Realtek 8139 LAN adapter or Marvell Gigabit Network Adapter, or Cheapass Fast Ethernet adapter

I'm tempted to get 1 of these for my backup LAN gaming machine, but it's gigabit or nothing for me.

I could download a 6gb game from steam, or could copy the cache files from another PC in 5 mins over gigabit or 30-60 mins over 100mb

      • +3

Go into Device Manager, Expand the "Network Adapters" item.

The name of the device might be enough to tell you, if not right click on the device and select properties, switch to the "Advanced" tab, and look in the list for something like "Speed" or "duplex". Click on this, then on the right under "Value", check the list for something that says 1 Gbps or similar.

        • -2

          Nothing there.. I give up.

    • -2
      • ?? no u don't, there's plenty of other purposes for them such as network drives

*you can even connect two computers together (but i wouldn't recommend it)

  • +5

Be aware that a 2.5% processing fee applies to credit cards AND paypal, and a 3.75% to American Express…. bringing the cost to MORE than the shoppingexpress one…

Cost with 2.52% added (showing as $848) is $869.20

Are shoppingexpress offering a cheap extended warranty such as this one? That may be the dealbreaker…

    • yes, the additional warranty is quite interesting. The site looks exactly the same as megabuy.

      • I reckon its the same as Megabuy

        • +2

Just ordered through paypal, no charge applied to me. Probably something accidentally left in by their staff. And the warranty is correct, look at the product code. 5 Year upto $1000.

      • +1

Yeah I noticed that. I wonder if one is owned by the other or something, with this group being the Melbourne arm. Certainly the website layout is the same, and they have exactly the same additional charges.

    • AFAIK ShoppingExpress doesn't have extended warranty available.

      • +1

        do you need one?

        • 2009…

        • yep - you need one for HP. Not the world's most reliable brand. This is a great deal, though.

        • Damn, I thought Dell was the most unreliable brand, otherwise I would've bought a 15z! Instead I bought one of those DV6's from Hardly Normal with the AMD's.

        • HP will be and always was the company with the least reliability. However much they try to improve Acer, Dell and HP are always the brands you wouldn't recommend to people. Maybe the high end Dell series at most but certainly not HP or Acer machines.

    • aaaww.. no deal then!!!!!

    • +1

You beat me to this one :). well spotted epicaricacy!

    • +1

No fee charged to me for paypal. Maybe some kind of glitch that it was still displaying. Money went through already, so go for it!

    • I processed via Paypal and no fee was included. Purely a standard website template that hasn't been updated ;)

  • And from the Itspot website…

"Payment for the order can be made by any of the following methods:
Credit Card (2.5% Handling Fee) - Immediate Clearance
PayPal (2.5% Handling Fee) - Immediate Clearance

    I hate that charge..grrrrrrr

I dont even want them "handling" my credit card in the first place!

So might as well add another 2.5% or $23.375 (if you get the warranty as well)

    • As per my other comments, I didn't incur a charge for PayPal, try it out.

  • Whenever I add it to the cart it shows as $899 as well.

Might wait for the other one to start working!

Can we buy just the warranty from this lot, seeing as it is an external company supplying it?

Anyone have any experience with United Warranties?

  • There is no document from united warranties in the link. The pdf file is missing.
Secondly, can anyone explain this in extended warranty:

    Replacement Cover Up to $250
A United Warranties Product Care Warranty offers new or equivalent replacement products for faulty items that were originally purchased up to the value of $250. If United Warranties can't replace your item they will issue you a gift card rounded up to the nearest $10 of the product's original value. Example: Product price $74, replacement Gift Card $80.

    • It covers $1000, I figure that from the product code as well, probably just errors in the descriptions.

    • It means items valued up to $250 will be replaced by a new one (or equivalent) under the warranty. Anything higher than $250 (this HP lappy) will most likely be a repair rather than them swapping it with a new one.

  • Tried to look but couldnt find warranty stuff…Im never buying a laptop without warranty…my dv9520tx died thanks to the nvidia problem exactly 13 months after I bought it…and is an expensive paper weight at the moment..any experiences with these guys or shopping express?

    • u can still ask to HP , as it shd not die after 13 months. Statuary warranty, many people have taken that.

      • +1

The problem is I paid 100 bucks to get fixed on epay and once you opened it I could no longer do it…and it died again..I paid 1700 on especial from 3 grand..So I need to get that money back by saving that much on electronics..hence I'm here…by my account thanks to ozbargain I'm nearly there…

    • common guys is 1 hour to 9pm in NSW ..is shopping express in QLD?

      .. so far

      • Cheaper price but high paying fees with itspot… What is the exact difference?
      • No extended warranty on shopping express
      • Just get whichever ends up cheaper.

      • Shoppngexpress are quite good in dealing and no extra charges for paypal. Most of people want paypal for some extra safety of their credit card detail or filing dispute.
I have no experience with ITSpot.

But said all this, extended warranty is the key to buy.

  • +1

Op here is a discussion on this shop

    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1625134

    • yeah heres a nice quote from that discussion ….

"Personally, I wouldn't touch either with a 20-foot barge-pole, I've seen the comments from the guy that runs Megabuy in other threads, and that put me off them entirely.

I'm not interested in dealing with people who's only contact details are a 1300 phone number and a PO box"

    • +3

Based on their shady practices with the HP Microserver deals, I would also refrain from purchasing from these guys.

Megabuy and IT Spot do seem to be one and the same:

"Let's look at the WHOIS data:

      Domain Name: tech4u.com.au
      Last Modified: 14-Jul-2010 08:20:12 UTC
      Registrar ID: Aust Domains

      Registrant: AKSY TECHNOLOGIES PTY LTD
      Registrant ID: ACN 116616981
      Eligibility Type: Company

Then you pump the ACNs into:

      http://www.search.asic.gov.au/gns001.html

And you find that AKSY & MEGABUY both have:
Locality of Registered Office Lawnton QLD 4501

AKSY pre-dates MEGABUY's registration by just over a year.

      All 3 sites have:

      Registrant Contact Name: Nick Shelomanov

It's interesting that he claims that the other stores are franchisees, and yet they are both owned by a company that predates megabuy.

There's nothing illegal about running multiple storefront sites to skew the results pages of price-hunting sites like silicon ice and getprice….

EDIT: I also not that identical documents were lodged on identical days for both companies, so I find it unlikely that Nick isn't involved in both companies."

      • silicon ice? thats an interesting one

    • Yeah searching for the company first put me off by their 'review' on whirlpool, if it's mostly negative then no. Although the price is good but can't trust the company 100%

  • +4

Just ordered one with warranty. Firstly, it's the correct cover, it's even visible in the product code - PCT5YR1K - With 5YR1K meaning 5 Year $1000. And also of note went through for $845 as stated, no paypal surcharge or anything
    Score!

  • good deal

  • Has anyone noticed the weight of the lapyop:8 kgs.
    secondly for united warranties:
    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1207633

    • ??? says 2.63

perhaps thats the whole things, box case and all.

      8kgs would be ridiculous

      • +2

lol they are clearly reading this thread, they updated exactly what said

      • At the top next to the 'add to cart' button it says 8kg but in the specs it says the laptop alone 'starts at' 2.63kg.

  • +3

THIS JUST IN NO PAYPAL FEES >..Yeah buddy…

Well guys I couldnt handle the pressure and from past experiences at 9pm stock will be 0 in .000000001 seconds at shopping exprees,,,so I just went through the checkout process in it spot as I was never going to buy without warranty..to my surprise it was $935 total with paypal..so they either forgot to charge fees or they are listening and remove them… either way… wink wink keep asking…..im off to see hardcore pawn and american pickers..

    in short

    • $935 free delivery, 5yrs warranty using paypal

    may the best bargain win..

    • Oh somebody beat me to it…

  • What's the RRP for this model laptop?

    • +1

Probably $1600 or something. The RRP is pretty much irrelevant. Fact is you can't get similar specs in any other model for less than $1000. Probably $1200+ for most brands.

      • +1

@CarbonTwelve - I don't know why because I don't really know you but your opinions seem very informative and I got this laptop based on your (and to a lesser extent others) feedback that this was a good price for these specs. I know HP are exiting the hardware market, correct? So their stuff is being discounted. And I probably didn't need these specs as it's for my wife and she isn't a gamer but a bargain's a bargain plus I can always borrow it if needed (SC2 runs a bit choppy on my Asus M51SN) and it futureproofs it for a few years.

        • +1 to CarbonTwelve - thankyou for all the info ;)

        • Yeah, HP are pulling out of the PC market, although I'm not sure if they're pulling out of laptops too. Thanks for the confidence in me :)

  • just had a quick look on statice
this is what a few of the well known stores have it listed for
megabuy $899 - they do have a deal for $880 atm
    umart $939
    scorptec $1099
    pccasegear $1199
    centrecom $1339

no idea of rrp but $845 + $90 (for 5 yr warranty) is a great deal & no paypal charges ;)

being able to get the 5 yr warranty sold me

  • i just order one of these!
i hope it will be delivered on friday!

  • Out of topic, when is Win 8 due?

    • Next year depending on when the beta will be out

  • just a quick question if anyones around
How long do paypal payments take to clear?

    • If you are paying via e-cheque, probably monday or tuesday. If you already have a credit card added to your Paypal account; instant

      • already have credit card added to my paypal acc. Thankyou Erkel

  • I hope someone can help me with some advice?

Why is this deal getting so much hype as a great deal and yet the one from here isn't?

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/54675

    especially this one?

    17” Acer AS7750G-2638G1.5B7HP $1049 after $99 cb* (pay now $1148)
    Intel 2nd Gen Core i7 2630QM
    2GB ATI HD6650 Graphics
    8GB / 1.5TB HDD
    Bluray / DVD Writer
    USB 3.0 / HDMI
    3 Years Acer Warranty

and why doesnt the guy from Itspot/megabuy post on here when he OBVIOUSLY is changing his website information after reading the comments on here in this thread?

    • +1

personally I dont like stuffing around with cashback deals

the grx card (hd 6650M) is only a mid range card according to http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark…. The dv6-6146tx has a hd 6770m (high end card) & is $200 cheaper with no cashback (mucking about)

IMO a 17" laptop is more of a desktop replacement so Id rather spend the $1000 on a kicker desktop & get a decent gfx card.
Mobile grx cards do not perform as well as their desktop versions (ie a 6950M does not perform anywhere near what a 6950 will)

      • thanks billymm I understand where your coming from.

but still, the hype about this deal seems so over the top for what it is especially when:

        1. warranty worries - is this company's warranty really worth anything? so many restrictions about it from what ive read - maybe just wasting $90? Cant beat manufacturers warranty as in the Acer deal and also theres the statutory warranty anyway? Most ozbers say they "only bought the HP here because of the warranty" - I dont think in this case it can be totally justified as the reason to buy?

        2. Suspect dealer? not as reliable maybe as others?

        3. 640GB harddrive compared to 1.5Tb in the Acer deal

        4. yes the graphics card is better, but really if your worried about "extreme" performance then why buy a budgt system anyway? the 6750 is not much different to the 6770 for normal use?

        5. I agree with your opinion with the cashback, but then you do get it eventually

        • the difference is that the Acer is poorly matched with a 1600x900 screen which you can't really do it justice when you are stuck with the weak 6650m graphics core.

On a 1366x768 screen, the deal is a lot more appealing because for gaming over the next year, you can play everything including BF3 with high/medium detail settings at the native resolution. You can't do that on the Acer, so it's a deal killer for people who understand what they will get.

  • I simply don't get it, why would any company allocate a 1366768 screen to such a powerful laptop?
    I would give a miss.
it should be at least 1440×900, if it's not full HD!
    what's the point of getting a 2GB video card for a 1366
    768 screen?!
    moron designer!

    • -1

Resolution of the screen is one of those things an average consumer will not notice, or take into account. All they want to be able to speak of are the size of the screen, and the amount of GB's the graphics cards has, as it is easily comprehensible, and immediately obvious.

They (average consumers) will be afraid when coming to terms with a seemingly random combination of numbers (HOR x VER), let alone digest what PPI means.

The designer had one purpose in mind = sell as many of it as possible with the lowest amount of cost involved in the production stage, to meet the average demand in the average portion of the society.

So no, the designer is not the moron here. You want to blame someone for moronic decisions, blame the masses for continuously buying screens that are lower in PPI. Blame the masses to choose to adhere to social affirmations of standards such as HD (720p) and Full HD (1080p), whom are oblivious to other unknown screen resolutions beyond their wildest imaginations (2560x1600, QFHD etc.).

okok - end of my rant.

(To prove a point, if you add the letters HD to a sunglass, and charge it 50% more than its non-HD tagged equivalent, people will gladly pay that extra 50% more.)

      • +1

Oh and there's a new class of consumers, prosumers. Hooray!

        /sarcasm

      • +1

it's strange, the average laptop has gone down in resolution after this "HD revolution" rather than up. i remember when most 15" laptops were 1440x900 or 1680x1050 rather than 1280x800 or 1366x768.

        • +1

I'm looking at my 1366x768 screen now and its fine to me. I much rather this than say 1680x1050. When everything just gets too small its an unpleasant experience.

        • Same here db1, not to mention that higher resolution requires more graphics power to drive.

  • Does it got any international warranty or how can I get one, planning to buy for my bro who is in oversease

  • When connecting this to a 24 inch via HDMI, you would be able to get max res right?

    • I'm pretty sure, but you can use a DVI cable (same as HDMI resolution) unless you want sound
(HDMI, sound and video/ DVI, video)
Just be sure to put it in the right mode and change the settings preference to Monitor 24"..

BUT, if you are hooking up a monitor, i am assuming you are using it as a desktop also.
My suggestion would be to hook both monitors. that way, you can double screen.
This laptop has 2gb video card memory which makes it plenty for dual screen capabilities.
Then connects your mouse and keyboard to the laptop. Just make sure you buy a laptop cooler.

  • +1

I've just read a number of other laptop "deals" lately on OzBargain - I seriously cannot believe that some posters appear to be offended because someone has a personal preference, for whatever reason, a higher screen resolution. Particularly where negative ratings are given to some poster comments for mentioning the resolution "preference" issue!

    • I don't see any issue with people having a preference to a higher resolution screen, what I see an issue with is those same people assuming that everyone wants a higher resolution screen, and hence you get comments like "why would any company allocate a 1366768 screen to such a powerful laptop?".

    • Totally agree. It very much comes down to personal preference and intended use for laptop. Can see why people would have preference for both smaller and higher res screens.

  • +2

    What the … ???

'Our system has flagged your order for verification. The following are several methods that we can use to try and verify your order so that we may ship it for you as quickly as possible:

    1. You can email us from a non-free email address such as BigPond, TPG, Internode, etc. or from a registered company.
    2. You can provide a business name (ie an employer) that we can locate their contact details, and call you on that number.
    3. You can change your payment method to do a bank transfer (quickest) or credit card, in which instance (for credit card only) we will need to do an additional check (by way of refunding a small amount onto your card and you verifying the amount).

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience and delay this may cause. We feel however that it is very important to protect both your personal details and our company from the possibility of fraudulent activity.'

    • Pretty standard fair for new customers. I got the same email and replied using my personal internode account. No biggy ;)

  • Should i buy this laptop from here or Shopping Express..
Atm.. looks like this is a better deal cuz of the 5year warranty.

    • +2

Emailed them twice about my above issue. Still haven't heard from them. Starting to feel like ShoppingExpress has better and more reliable customer service.

      • It took over 7 hours, multiple emails and a phonecall to verify something so routine. :\ Previous online shopping experience leaves me with the feeling that this is going to be one of those companies that offers the world and but fails to deliver. I hope I'm wrong and will be happy to admit it if that's the case…

@kickmiass: I'd possibly consider the shoppingexpress deal as the they seem a lot more on the ball according to feedback and the rep's activity.

  • has anyone made it past "processing" ??

  • has anyone actually got this delivered yet from itspot?

  • I ordered from them - mainly for the slight security a 5 year warranty can offer… although I do understand the limitations one of these types of warranties can offer - at least i will be happier if the laptop dies after 14 months…

I am not in an incredible rush, but I am stuck at the processing stage - no idea why, paid by paypal using credit card so not sure what the problem would be.

Hope it doesn't turn into the shoppingsquare Samsung Galaxy debacle…

    • The 5 year warranty is one thing for security, but the confidence that your buying from a dealer that actually is reliable, easily contactible and processes sales quickly and efficiently seems pretty important to me, maybe more so important than a questionable warranty.

So far it looks like ShoppingExpress is better to deal with.

  • too right so far! Been waiting in 'live chat now!' for two sessions of 20 minutes each… all I get is

"A representative will be connected, please be patient.

We are still trying to connect you, please be patient. If you don"t want to wait please leave a message: Leave message. Thank you!"

I get the feeling they only want me to leave a message, which I don;t want to do as they have not returned my phone call from yesterday yet.

    • +1

I was just going to write something similar. Live Chat repeatedly told me to "please be patient".

I was supposedly no 1 in queue with approx 4 min wait & that was 10min ago

Why post a deal on OzBargain then not communicate with buyers? - best way to get a really bad name for yourself

I dont have any sympathy for businesses that take your money (quickly) then either cant follow through with what THEY promise or decide not to answer emails

hmmm…. thats intesting just noticed that the price on their website jumped up to $899

my order just changed to shipped ;) ;) ;)

  • Yeah price is up so deal is over.

Please put expired on this so we can focus on other, better deals from more reliable sources.

  • My status has changed to processing once I emailed them from the email address I initially used (a non-free) and told them that I HAD paid by credit card) Apparently it should now be shipped Monday. (next business day)

Sure, it took a day longer, but once the product is in our hands, does it matter where it came from? Warranty is provided by others anyway via HP, so no further contact is generally required. As ozbargainers we should be willing to put up with a slight inconvenience for a bargain, and in this case the couple of hundred dollar saving on a 5 year warranty, with the package costing only $85 more overall (which actually pushes it out to 6 as it kicks in after the manufacturers) makes it the better bargain imho

Much like the Samsung Galaxy shopping square drama - in the end we ended up with a hell of a bargain. Yep, took a month, but lets face it, these are generally impulse buys anyway, so the wait should be not as relevant!

    • +1

my status changed to shipped on Fri. I gave up with LiveChat & sent a simple email asking when it would be sent out. I got a response & a tracking number.

As long as it turns up Mon-Wed without damage Im happy - the only thing I would suggest to ItSpot is to provide a lot more communication with buyers (people who have paid) & be a little faster in answering all emails ;)

fully agree with you epicaricacy - I dont mind waiting a couple of days for a bargain

  • whoa mamma…. I see the price jumped to $999 on their website

  • Attention!!
The price it still the same!
    $845+free postage! Grab a bargain

    • If you're not in QLD allow up to a week or more for delivery regardless of the 1-2 business day delivery of 'in-stock items' claimed on their site. Mine is still in transit close to a week on.
