    Welcome back to the earth.

    Welcome to OzBargain

I hear cashrewards might offer similar deal. Only a rumour but you heard it here first.

    • +9

Fifth time this week I've seen this.

Are we going to loose the word lose because of keyboard dictionaries?

(not aimed at you, just wondering why I keep seeing it, and that is only reason I can think)

      • Especially in the world of stonks. I've never seen someone say the word "lose" once.

        • This too deep a cut for me

May I ask what you're referring to?

          • @iamhurtin: Stonks being stocks. In the equities world you always see people using the word "loose" instead of "lose". I don't know why.

      • that is only reason I can think

I can think of another. Illiteracy.

    • +1

      What? How?

    • +6

I had an out of stock item a couple weeks ago and they just provided a voucher code for the amount for next online shop.

Pretty sure it wouldn’t be legal for Woolworths or Woolworths Gift Cards to not refund you 😕…

      • oooo good to know. i never had that experience because i dont shop online with WW

      • +1

@Chickenleg you just ask them concert to an e wish voucher and they do in about 24/48 hours.

        • I didn’t even need to ask, they just sent me an email with it after it the order was packed

          • +2

@Chickenleg: @Chickenleg what I mean is if you get a cancelled order, WW issue you a voucher code that can only be used online. The code is not the same as a e-wish card that you can also use instore or across other WW group brands that take e-wish. If you would prefer to have your code converted back to e-wish you need to contact them to do that.

            • @twitch1979: Gotcha, that’s good to know there’s another option. No idea what corrocoat is on about then lol

            • +1

@twitch1979: I would strongly recommend against that. The conversion process involves two teams. The Woolworths online team first invalidated ur voucher then sent a request to the giftcard team to issue ur egiftcards. There is too much manual processing involved and if they screw up somehow you are gonna chase after ur cards for months.
P.S. dont ask how I found out.

              • @truetypezk: @truetypezk it happened to me recently and the one time I have done it all worked fine but based on your experience it sounds like I may have got lucky.

      • Same happened to me but I had chat with customer service and they provided me egift card instead of voucher

      • I wonder if this is driven by people cracking the sheets for items being unavailable online and ending up just below the bonus threshold. At least this way, the customer gets the points they expected in the online shop.

      • Yeah I had this, I got on live chat and told them I'd like it back as a gift card instead and they converted it and emailed it

    • +4

You can loose money on these gift cards when used on line.

      No you can't

      • I don't think you can lose money, however the "refund" isn't in the same form as the GC which is where you lose out.

        • Don't you mean "loose out" 😉

        • +2

Contact Woolies - they transfer the refund code onto a eGift card. Receive it quickly. Done it many times.

          • -8

@Rather be Travelling: They do not help & you lose the refund value. The Amazon system of directly crediting your account is more trustworthy & importantly requires no work from the customer.
Can everyone keep track of e gift cards …lots to lose.

            • @corrocoat: What help do you need! They always give a refund. As with anything, just keep track of your Egift balances and refund vouchers..it’s not hard. Ridiculous concerns.

            • @corrocoat: Is this a new policy
Last online shop that didn't have stock I got promo codes

            • @corrocoat:

              They do not help

Rubbish! Never had Woolies not quickly help when I've contacted them. You don't tell us why they refused to help in your case…

They send me an email with a refund code every time. That is how I've received refunds for all out of stock online shops for several years, including 2 weeks ago when I cancelled an order.

I contact Woolies & am sent an email with an eGift card, replacing the code. I'd rather have an eGift card than a refund code with conditions - like min $50 online shop.

(Years before that, I'd receive emails that said the refund would be put back on my credit card (can't be done with gift card purchase), so contacted them & found the refund could be put on a gift card - which was posted out.)

              you lose the refund value

Rubbish! If that were true, why is no one else claiming they lose money like you?
It would create an action by the ACCC. Not giving refunds is a major breach of consumer law!

The only mistake they've made with a refund - was to send me too much! I'm not complaining😉

As so many Ozbargainers shop with Woolies online, using discounted eGift cards - why is this problem apparently only happening to you…?

Pointless crying about it here - do something about it!

Check your out of stock / refund email.
(Some people may sign up with a fake email address, so don't receive a refund email or offers! And that can cause problems when contacting Woolies.)
If you didn't receive it, contact Woolies!

    • You get a voucher code refund, which is better than a refund to the card…As you can use the voucher in conjunction with a new gift card, whereas online you can't use multiple Gift Cards.

If you had the refund to the card you would end up with odd amounts of left over funds (assuming you always order your gift cards to the exact cent)

      • +2

You can use multiple Gift Cards online, last time I used 2 Gift cards and 2 credit vouchers, not a problem

        • Oh interesting thanks for letting me know, I couldn't figure it out through the app, I guess you must have used the desktop site?

  • +5

This has been available for a long time now…
    Cashrewards has it too

Can get higher than 5% in ozb classifieds as well

    • Can get higher than 5% in ozb classifieds ???? how?

      • I assume every now and then people will sell of egift cards they convert from credit cards / as prizes/ as gifts. Since everyone can buy them, there would be a further discount. That is pretty standard across the classifieds (a small additional discount). If you get a woolies giftcard but don't shop at woolies better to take the cash.

        • +1

          +1
There's a few people who are after credit card points, willing to subsidise the extra discount.

          Usual rates are 6%

  • Looks like a knowledge sharing post :D

  • +10

Consider supporting an Australian company by getting the same deal from Cashrewards instead.

It's the same discount so that's the only differentiator.

It's not the biggest deal but I thought some people might be interested.

    • +1

Do these cashback sites even get anything from setting up the discount link?

      • +4

Of course - that's the business they're in.

      • Probably a kickback + your data!

    • +1

Didn't know ShopBack wasn't Aussie based like cash rewards. Thanks for the heads up.

  • +3

Unfortunately 5% is the long running rate - ocassionally it goes up a bit (by less than a percent) which is when I'd consider it more of a deal however marginal the savings might be.

Note that sometimes the gift card sites will only discount Woolworths by 4% (eg Suncorp Benefits when it's not on promotion for 5%) but you can always get the Wish gift cards which are also accepted at Woolworths (amongst other places like Big W) and usually these are also at 5% discount.

    • +1

The unfortunate thing was when AMEX halved the points value of the ascent program, these cards used to basically be 8% discount with the platinum edge(and even better if you used the points for flights), still good with the 6.5% but not as great

      • how do you get 6.5%?

        • +2

The platinum edge card gives 3 points per dollar for supermarket spend (which these e-gift cards count as), the points are worth .5c per point. Like they allows you to use points to pay off your statement at that rate. They used to be worth 1c per point.

      • they were the days… even if you didnt have the card, there were ozbargainers selling discounted wish cards for 7% off.

    • -3

The best way to buy these cards is with the crypto.com card. About 15% discount(maybe a little bit less after currency conversions). But you'd have to deposit a few hundred dollars in crypto for a few months to get it, the risk is that the deposited money devalues or disappears while it's deposited.

This is great the ONLY cashback I'm aware of that is instant and not based on there tracking .
Minor problem is every man and his dog has this offer :)

  • +1

    Could of questions:
    - Can you use the e-gift card instore?
    - Do you still get your woolworths points if you pay with e-gift card?

    • +4

      Yes and Yes

      • +1

        Cheers!

      • And even better, the Woolworths money app tracks the gift cards making it easy to use. Would be nice if it could generate a barcode so I didn't need to type it in on the terminal but I enjoy real time updates on remaining balance.

        • +1

          I think barcodes are coming.
The self service terminal is now asking if you want to scan barcode or manually. Pity it didn't come in at the same time as putting up the option.

        • Yea barcodes going to make it so much faster. I mess up a lot and always have to wait for the checkout assistance lol.

  • +6

was gonna say, it's like known from day one of shopback existence, yet still get 63+ votes. Good to see new members joining though, the more the merrier..

  • The self serve check out now has the option to scan e-gift card "barcodes" instead of punching in the 10ish digit codes. Anyone know how to get that barcode?

Also just notice the previous comment about this too.

  • hear any news if woolworths gift cards 5% off is come to an end at shopback?

cashrewards 5% off to 3% then to none in matter of days now….
