  • If you have multiple devices, but don't need to use every single port, you can cut out the unused ports to make it look neater. It looks messy but it could reduce clutter if you're charging multiple devices simultaneously.

    • It will take AGES to charge multiple devices, as power from USB is so limited :P

You can't charge multiple devices at the same time, since you could overload the charger. And cutting them off is almost certain to cause short circuits.

In any case, if you have a USB charger (eg: a 1 Amp one from an iPhone) then you just plug your other devices's USB cords into it. When we travel, I take one charger and one lead per device.

I can't be certain, but I believe you can.

DealExtreme sells a similar product with comments from users that seem to either suggest or state that they can.

        Have a look

Btw, it's cheaper at DealExtreme but I'm leaving my Pos. vote

      • Why do you say it'll short circuit it? From my limited knowledge of these things (high school physics) unless they're connected in a non-parallel way, then it should be OK.

      • +2

Llama you might want to get your facts straight before you neg & sprout off.

        1) It's the Ampere rating of the charger that matter, so if it's a 1Amp charger it can charge two 500mA devices simultaneously.

        2) Not all devices are wired to to accept non-OEM USB chargers. So some devices can not be charged by your Iphone/Blackberry/Kindle/etc USB charger, in fact some actually discharge your battery.

So the thing to look for is make sure the Voltage is correct (usually 5Vdc) and that the Amp rating of the charger is equal or higher then the amp rating on your device. So a 1Amp Blackberry can be charged by a 2Amp Charger, but if you whack it on a 600mAmp charger,t he charger will likely emit blue smoke (which if you manage to capture & push back inside will make it work again ;-)

My facts are straight. You seem to be the one who is confused about what this device actually does, and also what I was trying to say.

This thing is a parallel-wired cable. It has no smarts, no electronics, nothing inside. So, the fact that you can physically plug in 1, 2 or even 10 devices does not mean that it can charge them all at the same time.

          1) Yes of course the rating of the charger matters. You'll certainly overload the charger if you used (say) an iPhone charger (1000mA) and tried to charge an iPhone (1000mA) and another (500mA) device at the same time.

I reckon that using more than one device at once could be a pretty quick and easy way to blow up your computer's USB port, because they are almost certainly only rated for 500mA each.

          2) If the non-OEM USB charger won't work on the alternative device directly, then it's not going to work with this device either. I have never seen a USB-chargeable device that cannot be charged by a iPhone charger, let alone be discharged… where did you hear that story?

As you so rightly say, it all depends on the rating of the devices and the charger. What you have posted simply confirms exactly what I already said. So thanks for that.

As for those smokey overloads… when pushing it back in, remember what the Blendtec guy says… "USB smoke, don't breathe this" :-)

Oh, and I negged it based on the PRICE - see my post below that even has a link to Ebay Search >> http://tinyurl.com/3uhjgag

  • "In this globalization era, everything is easy, simple and affordable!"

I'm soooooo glad to know that! Presumably we'll have world peace and the cure for cancer by the end of the week then? :P

yes, order directly from dealextreme instead of leeching group buy sites

  • I had one of this at home, yes you can charge more than one if you use it on a power adaptor that dispenses usb port.

Same thing Half price for 1.91

  • much much cheaper on eBay. This is ozBARGAIN, not ozADVERTISEMENT!

  • I thought it was a good buy, until I saw it is half price on ebay! Still, you pay alot more for Hardly Normal retail price structure for something like this!!!

"Good to use while travelling on business or pleasure"…This line made me laugh. Life is alot about business and pleasure. Make the money and then enjoy it. This product claims to provide both necessities for a fulfilled life! If so, should buy them by the truck load!
