    FF7 finally !

Anyone can track a physical copy of the final fantasy (7, 8, 9 and 10) for switch at a decent price?

  • Sick, I've been waiting for a sale to pick up XII, only one I haven't got on Switch

  • I've never played a Final Fantasy before. Any recommendations?

    • +4

      7 is a good start

      • +3

        IX is great too.

      • VII, or VII remake ;)

But my suggestion is go VI, VII (original), VIII, IX and X. That should ease you in graphics wise.

    • +7

you missing out in life my brother lol

    • +1

      Either VII or IX:
VII is the most hyped, but with good reason. Great all around: story, music, battles.
IX if you like classic fantasy settings better.

FF7 and FF10 are great starting games

    • +5

I'd say from this list FF8 for a more old school vibe or FF10 for a more newer experience. The old school graphics of FF7 might turn you off.

    • +5

Highly recommend FF8 because of the unique junctioning system which means you can have decent power almost immediately (if you want an easier game) plus the enemies level up with you so there's incentive to not get too levelled up (hence no / minimal grinding required). It's my favourite of the older games!

    • Can't reply to all of you so I'll just give you all a + and say thanks for the advice. Sounds like I'll be needing to try 7 and 9 at the very least!

      • -1

        Where's my +? ;)

  • XII is good on switch

    • +1

The old FF games are too, it kinda suits the small screen somehow, even the remastered versions.

    • They fixed the stupid weapon quest by removing the section where opening the wrong chest screwed you over forever (unless you wanna farm for like a 1/1000 drop chance).

  • -2

Some of these games are hard to play now.

Random battles, you can turn it off but you don't level.

Since you don't level, you'll need max stats turned on which is basically cheating.

And if you're playing 3x speed, then what's the point.

    • +5

Sounds like you need to git gud.

    • I agree. A casual player might never play more than a few minutes of these old games. I would say try Chrono Trigger for the best RPG Square ever made, but I don't think it's even on Switch.

      • It's not for sale on the Switch but it is accessible on the Switch ifyouknowhatimean.

        • I'd still pay for the iOS version. It's a universal app that works on iPad and Apple TV, and save files sync, and you can use a bluetooth xbox one or ps4 controller. And iOS devices have much higher quality screens, battery life, and speakers than the Switch.

  • Perfectly timed, I was wanting to get FF IX on the Switch to play for my next game :D

    • +3

I replaced IX on Switch recently, it holds up very well and the 3x speed option makes Chocobo Hot & Cold minigame much easier. You move at 3x the speed but the timer counts down at regular speed

  • Just a note that the FFVII is the original (non-remastered) version

I was almost caught out when I saw it pop up. Pretty obvious to most but might be worth mentioning in the post

    • +1

A "remastered" FF7 along the lines of FF8 Remastered doesn't exist. All the versions of FF7 on current generation consoles is just a resolution boost with minor tweaks.

If you're instead referring to the FF7 Remake that released earlier this year, well that's only on PS4 for now (and very unlikely to come to Switch)

      • FF7R will release to other consoles and PC once exclusivity period is over. Switch port would be challenging due to underpowered hardware, but it may happen.

    FF8 .. a timeless classic!

  • +2

FF8, I spend more time on the card game than rest of the game………………..

That Alien Card cost me 3 Elixirssssssss!

    • FF8 is essentialy a card game with an JRPG element to it :)

  • Is FF VII Zodiac Age worth getting? Looks like the remastered version of FF VII, or is it an add-on or different in some way (besides better graphics/sound/controls)?

    • Zodiac Age is XII not VII :) I believe the overhaul of the job system is the biggest difference to the original version.

      • +2

haha oops. That's how much of a FF n00b I am I guess.
Bought VII and VIII to rectify :)

        • To be fair VII and XII looks similar at a glance, X is just V with legs attached :)

  • +1

r u srs i legit bought this last night ffs

    • +4

      Thank you for your sacrifice.

Helping the Square board get that one step closer to another luxury car each.

  • I literally just finished FFVIII about 20 minutes ago. It's still my personal favourite of the PSone days but the hardest to recommend.

If you were to pick any from that list, I'd suggest FFIX

  • Looking at Trials of Mana, which is also on sale, though not by much. I missed the insane discount on the PC version on GMG recently (down to $22 i think). Three times the price for a portable Switch version is hard to swallow, but it looks like it'd be perfect for the kids.

    • you could make your own deal, this is just for people interested in Nintendo shop

      • -2

Why must Nintendo have it own deal when I see other OP deals mention all available platform that have the same deal together?!?

        Weird people these days…

    • +1

Added the PS4 deals to the description.
Since this is from yesterday and not many people would see the edit, perhaps you could make a new deal to let more people know if you want? FF XV and FF Type-0 are also on discount but available on PSN only.

      • -2

Cause I've never post any deals before!! You could say I'm a noob lol.

Appreciate you adding the PS4 deals, thanks!
