    Amazing find OP

    VA panel

    • +4

Awesome, was hoping it was a VA! Just bought one

    • +1

Don't understand the big thing about IPS Panel's… i have this monitor and the colours look amazing :).

      • +10

I have the LG ultragear which is IPS and a second monitor that's VA. The VA looks super washed out compared to the LG

        • +10

Probably comes down to the settings or calibration as VA has triple the contrast ratio , blacks are much blacker

The only real advantage of IPS is colour accuracy .

          • +1

@piston3461: Wow, you got downvoted for that? How dare you be right…
Its common knowledge that VA has better contrast and better blacks. Its always been a strength of VA monitors. Obviously they have downsides, but being washed out is absolutely not one of them.

          • +3

@piston3461: IPS is also less blury in games … = less ghosting..

i have 2x 32" VA 1440p 144Hz monitors.. all VA panels have more ghosting then IPS and TN.. but the colours and black levels on these two 32" VA View sonic monitors are better then any other motors I've ever used in my life.

        • Slurped, you must have a bad VA monitor. just because your monitor is dodgy doesnt mean all VA panels appear washed out. IPS definately have their strengths, just like VAs have weaknesses, but dont go spreading mis-information.

        • Really? Because you must enjoy your grey black's… not all panels are made the same this also goes for VA panels. I prefer having proper black colouring in movies / games…

          Also IPS bleeding lmao.

          • @Tehcookiemonsta: I don't know what you mean by grey blacks, they look black to me, but then again my eyesight isn't great.

            • +1

@Void: IPS Panels in general have grey blacks personally something i can't really stand at all…

Even the LG Ultra Gear has grey blacks… was one of the reasons i bought this monitor instead that and size.

              • +1

@Tehcookiemonsta: I'm looking at black right now, and I don't know about you but it looks black to me. Maybe if I saw a VA panel next to it I'd have a different opinion.

              • @Tehcookiemonsta: I actually prefer the greyer blacks, you get more detail in dark scenes. Kinda like setti g your camera to "flat" vs "dynamic" shooting mode.

I bought a Samsung q70 recently, AFAIK it's a VA. My God I've never seen so much blacks crushed, had to turn the gamma up on the damn thing.

        • I don't have any VA panels for comparison, but I look from my IPS to my TN and everything looks fine, blacks included. With solid black stretched across the two the result is very, very similar - the black on my IPS is definitely "black". U2312HM (23" IPS 1080P) / S2716DG (27" TN 1440P). Neither of these cost any less than a limb though.

          • @Tehcookiemonsta: I have two VAs. Samsung 27" 1080p 144hz and an LG 32" 1440p 144hz. Compared to my IPS monitors the colours look about the same to me, however the blacks look much darker. There is ghosting on both, espcially with darker colours (very bad with dark colours scrolling on a lighter dark colour). I wouldn't say they hurt my experience of using them but they are noticable. The Samsung has some minor backlight bleed but the LG has no backlight bleed at all, which blows away my previous IPS screens that exhibited extreme backlight bleed and IPS glow (one looked like an oval in the middle of the screen). Overall I find the trade offs (ghosting in dark transitions), weaker colour production are worth it for blacker blacks and no backlight bleed (as well as being cheaper).

      • have a direct compare and you will understand

        • +4

Not all VA panels are bad…

          I've got all 3!!
          TN, VA and IPS…

          S2716DG vs U2717D vs CRG9…

When all 3 are calibrated… The VA is pretty much on par with the IPS…better blacks, much vivid but colour accuracy falls slightly behind the IPS… the TN panel was still OK and holds its own …

      • +3

Until you put one next to an IPS.

        • Do you actually own both a VA Monitor ans IPS ?

Even if you did, there are some panels that are better then others…

  • Great deal. Sadly no ultrawide options in that deal :(

  • +2

Bought this monitor about a month ago from Dell. It's come with 3 bright pixels, 1 dead pixel (in the centre of the screen) and some terrible backlight bleeding that Dell aren't keen to accept as a return/swap as it doesn't meet their policy. A nice monitor but Dell's QC is a bit terrible.

    • +6

The screen is covered by their 'Premium Panel' warranty, so they should replace it with 1 or more bright pixels.

      • Yes, not sure what "tryonthis" is complaining about, you can exchange for new unit under the Premium Panel warranty.

        • +8

I was just going off what 1 Dell rep told me when I contacted them recently. I'm grateful for the heads up… I'll contact them again tomorrow! Thanks!!

          • +2

@tryonthis: you can tell'em its written on the website

            Premium Panel Exchange

The Dell Premium Panel Exchange allows a free panel replacement during the Limited Hardware Warranty period even if only one bright pixel is found.

  • I am also looking for a monitor…..Any good deals for 34" curved non Xiaomi?

    • I haven't seen any. But feel free to let me know when you find one. Lol

    • +1

You should be paying attention to the panel being used, not the brand tacked on the front. Rejecting a product just because of its brand is just bizarre. Would likely be a Samsung panel.

If you're rejecting them because they're a Chinese brand, wait until you find out where most of the components in the electronics you own are manufactured and assembled. :P

      • I completely appreciate that 99/100 products and spares that I use day to day have a linkage to China. So my intent was not aiming on "Chinese brand". My take was that LG and Samsung (Acer/Dell) are much more settled brand then as a customer I know customer service / warranty I would have more faith in.

Still hanging out of another LG GL850 $699 deal……

    • Same. They are currently out of stock everywhere!

    • +2

What do you have against the Viewsonic VX2758-2KP-MHD? To me it looks like the same thing in a different shell and cheaper.

      • +1

The name. Just kidding I didn't know it existed. I'll check it out though. Thanks.

    • Me too, been looking for deals on this most of today! The best deal I found was through romanscomputers I think it's called.

      • OOS until the end of the year last I checked.

    • Not worth it at that price with QHD 240Hz on the way. Expect the Samsung G7 240Hz to come in at $750 on sale, for example.

    • I jumped on this last time, the GL850 has been a great monitor

  • +2

    I want IPS… T_T

    • +2

      ViewSonic VX2758-2KP-MHD for 2k 1440p IPS for under $500.

      • +2

Not at the 32" size, but yeah that monitor is amazing. I would buy one if I had a $2500 budget for PC + monitor and money to spare to upgrade my GPU for 1440p, I like 1080p because it's cheaper across the board.

  • Nah IPS not gonna come near the price of VA for a long time .

    • Is there a reason for this? For TVs, IPS are cheaper panels generally used for mid range and low end.

      • TN and VA panels used to dominate the higher refresh rates. Now IPS is coming along to higher refresh rates but it’s $$$ for now.

  • +2

Bought it, thanks OP for the find!

I have been looking around for a 32'' 1440p with at least 120 Hz refresh rate and not shit color and contrast performance, simply because it would be a massive upgrade over the 27'' 1080p @ 60Hz monitors I've been using over the past half decade. But didn't need to go overboard since I don't play competitively or have a GPU that can handle 4K or 240 FPS. Was really tempted by the new Samsung Odyssey G7, but I think a grand for a monitor might be too much.

    • +1

That was also my thinking when choosing the monitor. I'm glad I could help mate

    • +1

Nice thinking. Tell that to those who spend almost 3k for the Samsung G9 (I am not one of them).

      • Too wide as well for gaming, 21:9 is a much better aspect ratio for ultrawides.

  • +1

Great monitor been quite happy with mine.

    Don't think i'd ever want 60 FPS again…

    • Yeah my bro played 120hz and could never go back to 60 haha
      Ruins you

  • Thinking of getting this for my current MacBook Pro and potential future gaming pc.

I'll primarily be using it for doing work and casual gaming on the side.

Will the VA panel be bad for doing work on?

    • +1

Only bad for color sensitive work but a good VA monitor nowadays with proper calibration can suit casual photo editing usage.

      • Yeah currently just a lot of word processing and browsing. This is now very tempting.

  • +3

So glad I got cold feet and cancelled the Xiaomi 34 VA.
    Much prefer this. Thanks

    • I had the Xiaomi in my cart and ready to check out before I decided to look around more

    • +1

Why? The Xiaomi is cheaper and bigger, both are VA.

      • +2

Cheaper by thirty bucks, but honestly I’d rather the Dell. Extra year warranty over the xiaomi too. Local stock with an actual service agent if things go wrong. Dunno. I just feel a little safer with the dell. shrugs

        • +1

Isn't it like $619 at Gearbite? In that case it isn't cheaper. I might've done the same though, claiming warranty on a dead pixel or damage in shipping would be hell.

          • @Void: 636 from allphones is what I’d ordered, this is 665 or so.

Was never gonna buy from gearbite as I didn’t trust it was au stock.

            • +1

@imnotarobot: I ordered from Gearbite and they delivered on Friday.

              • +1

@killingtime: I’m glad you’re happy with it, but at no point have they said it is genuine AU stock. So I gave it a miss personally. But glad you like it

                • @imnotarobot: Ah you raise a good point. I only thought you meant AU located stock, not AU localized stock. I'm not sure if it's AU stock or not to be honest.

              • @killingtime: What's the verdict; no complaints with the Xiaomi?

                • @gmail92: So far so good but I'm no expert. I only have a IPS 4K 24 inch (non ultrawide) for comparison and it seems fine, obviously lower PPI.

      • +3

Actually this is bigger, the Xiaomi is just wider

        http://www.displaywars.com/34-inch-21x9-vs-32-inch-16x9

        • Ah yes it is, my bad.

          • -1

@Void: But the Wide aspect ratio makes it look better in games.

            • @John Doh: Wider aspect ratio usually makes it scale like shit in games and on competitive ones it will hinder your vertical vision because they don't want people with ultrawides having an unfair advantage.

              • @Void: But how many play competitively? Also the extra FOV you get on UWQHD makes it look so much better on most games. Also the ideal monitor size for competitive games is somewhere around 24 to 25 inches. 32 is too big.

  • +1

Ended up returning mine during the last deal, seemed to have excessive backlight bleed & felt almost the same as an IPS in terms of black levels. Difficult to tell if I got a dud but I couldn't be bothered exchanging it for another

Also the PPI (pixels per inch) is on the low side making text pixelation an issue on Windows 10. If its just purely gaming that you're after though it did seem quite competent

    • +1

Seems like Dell has had some QC issues in their Malaysian factories. I have an XPS desktop and dealing with their "premium warranty" suport, which is based onshore is a massive pain in the arse, rude and gives out attitude. I'd rather deal with their offshore Indian call centres, less hassles to get issues solves.

Dell's main issues is they like to bounce you from one department to another when you call.

      • I always had great experience with Dell after sale support, they're always willing to help. The key is record who you talk to and reference number.

    • The PPI is completely your fault you new what resolution and size the monitor is before buying didn't you?

Also it's exactly the same as 24" 1080P

As for the other issues i don't have any of those problems… shame you didn,'t give it another go. Very nice panel imo. (I dont have any colour bleeding & the blacks are great :)

      • +1

I already knew about that but didn't think it'd be as bad as it was, sometimes things are impossible to tell without trying it in person. Its mainly Windows 10's rendering fault though as Mac OS handles text far better on lower resolutions

    • Do Dell charge you restocking fee?

  • +2

    This or the 34" Xiaomi?

    • +1

Panel differences aside (Dell refresh rate is 165hz and is brighter at 400 cd/m², Xiaomi is 144hz @ 300cd/m²)
This is a 16:9 aspect ratio while the Xiaomi is a 21:9 ultrawide.

This illustrates the difference between the 2 resolutions. 3440x1440 is green+orange, 2560x1440 is orange.

The Dell is also HDR400 certified if that matters, although that level of certification is usually meaningless and barely qualifies as HDR.

      • but in terms of physical dimensions, it would be more like this, right?

      • Great thanks for that. I hadn't appreciated the difference that ultra wide makes. I had also suspected the HDR cert was a bit bogus (like don't you need like 1000 nits to do HDR properly?)

    • +3

      Ultrawide>>>>>>>>>>>non ultrawide

    • I would pick the ultrawide for gaming.

  • Anyone have any experience with Dell returns for change of mind? It says there may be a 15% restocking fee on their returns page for change of mind returns. Thanks!

  • +1

Anyone else just don't know what they want to get?

  • Great monitor bought about a month ago for$699, may have to lodge a 28 degrees shopper's protection claim

  • Nice ordered one. Was wanting an ultrawide but for the price and support dell offers I am happy with this.

  • Thoughts on this vs ASUS vg279qm

I do like the high refresh rate and the ASUS is so fast, but I guess higher res and bigger screen real estate would be nice. IDK.

  • FYI before getting too excited "QHD 2560 x 1440"

    • +1

Yeah, I'd of thought you'd want something higher than QHD for a 32" screen. For that resolution, 27" seems like the sweet spot.

    • Perfect resolution for that
