HP Pavilion DM1 Notebook - 11.6" - AMD E-300 - $384 (updated!) @ JB Hi-Fi

100

Hey all. Long time reader, first time poster (But don't let that stop you from negging this deal or tearing it to shreds if you feel you must. I'm sure I'll handle it :P)

JB Hi-Fi are currently advertising the HP Pavilion dm1 notebook at $384.00. (Update: Was $397 when I posted, but JB Hi-Fi lowered the price soon after, presumably to match/beat Harvey Norman. Thanks amts for posting a comment to let us know)

Specifications:

    * 11.6 Inch Screen (1366x768)
    * AMD Dual-Core E-300 1.3GHz CPU
    * Radeon HD 6310 GPU integrated
    * 2GB DDR3-1066 RAM / 320GB HDD
    * 801.11 B/G/N WiFi / Bluetooth 4.0
    * 3x USB 2.0 Ports, 1x HDMI port
    * SDHC Media Card Reader
    * Integrated Webcam
    * Windows 7 Home Premium x64
    * Microsoft Office 2010 Starter
    * 6 Cell Battery

I purchased one of these myself last week when JB had 20% off all HP. It's a rather nice little machine with good balance between size, portability, and most importantly USABILITY (quite a step up for me, having moved from a UMPC with a 7 inch screen).

Performance wise amazingly good considering it's only 1.3ghz. Web browsing with multiple tabs and various apps open in the background produces little to no slow down (unlike many netbooks I have seen and used). HD YouTube videos and 720p media files play okay.

While it would not be advised that anyone consider this for full-time gaming usage, it is quite capable of occasional gameplay. I myself quite enjoy flight simulation, and have found FS2004 to run beautifully on Very High Settings. Team Fortress 2 runs okay on low/medium settings although gets choppy on big servers with lots of players - turn graphics down as required.

It has been reported that a variety of other games are playable on this hardware also. Again, it's not exactly built for gaming, so do your research or wait for something more powerful if that's what you're after :)

Enjoy.

  • Yipes. Another HP deal.

    It sounds pretty good for a low end gaming machine.
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-6310.40952.0.html

    Plays:

    Call of Duty 4 - medium details (800x600 low - 61fps)
    Quake Wars: 1024 Normal Quality: 20.4fps - in lower quality settings it should run fluently
    Left 4 Dead 2 - 1366x768 medium details playable

    yeah its all good, give the guy credit :P good first post!

  • How would this compare to 15.6in lenovo i3 from mwave?

    • +4

      It's smaller :P

  • Any chance this has a matte screen?

  • Friend bought this and gave it back after a couple of days.. He said the GPU was good but the CPU really crippled the machine. He said the atom was faster!

      X86 performance is what sells the laptop. Even if the netbook has a good GPU and can handle 1080p content, the slow CPU still slows down other general tasks. AMD doesn't seem to get this — if they can come up with a sub $400 netbook that has 2x the performance of an Atom and can handle 1080p / games, then it'd be a killer product.

      These E300 CPU laptops are mainly targeted at the gaming / HTPC crowd, and definitely not for people who need CPU grunt to do media editing etc.

  • JB link says its an expired deal :/ and anyone got weight?

    • This deal has not expired. Please read details on web site.

      Offer Expires Wednesday 9th Nov 2011 unless otherwise specified

      • Ahh, I was on the mobile version of the site so maybe it's screwy.

    Got it for $370 after saying that Harveys had them for $387 inc Office. I had a copy of office anyway so I wouldn't use an extra one.

    There were still about a dozen boxes on display at Geelong

  • Thanks for going easy on my first post :)
    I have updated it to reflect JB's revised price and added slightly more info.
