[WA] Bosch Professional Cordless Impact Driver GDX18-VEC (Skin Only) $99 (RRP $158) @ Bunnings Claremont

160

Saw this in the Claremont WA store this morning - normally $158 @ Bunnings but no longer shown on their website

Other sites it lists at about ~$200 but lots of links have errors suggesting this is most likely end of line model i suspect

Great impact driver got a similar model to this and cant fault it. Very sturdy piece of kit and pretty good at this price i reckon.

  • How does this compare to milwaukee?

The Milwaukee don’t have a ½” anvil for direct socket use.

That and the Bosch is made in Malaysia (at least nine was!)

      • Great little unit, semi pro. Good for DYI. Mine is also made in Malaysia and not China.

    • have used both and they're both really good. last a while and cop a beating. both have a lot of different skins in their range, so id choose which ever u would buy more of so all the batteries match

Australian comparison between the main brands out there - people from Total Tools. Dewalt, Milwaukee, Makita, Metabo, Hitoki, Bosch

Milwaukee will have more power with their gen3 but also more expensive. So all depends on which battery system you will be supporting in the future. I have the milwaukee one, since I already have other tools from them.

Looks like the combined driver/wrench skin

    • It is one of those things that, if you've got a use for it, there's nothing else like. If you don't, then you might use it a few times in your life.

Tip: get the right adaptor and you can do wheel nuts with it. I'm going to check my local Bunnings and, if it is there for the same price, I'll grab one. It would make taking wheels off for cleaning so much faster and easier, and not having to make the investment for a compressor and rattle gun.

      • if you find the adapter would you mind posting a link - would be interested. cheers

It'd just be a 1/4" - 1/2" adaptor, any tool shop should have them. Or get a 1/2" impact bit to go straight in.

        • No need for an adaptor, these have a 1/2 inch square anvil that accepts 1/2 inch sockets directly and has an internal 1/4 hex that fits all 1/4 hex bits.

      • I grabbed one of these when Bunnings Marion (SA) had them on clearance ($80). Didn't post the deal as I got the last but one (possibly the display model). The next closest Bunnings had them for $159 so definitely not a nationwide thing.

You don't need an adapter with it, it has a standard half inch socket drive that fits all wheel nut sockets. These will not undo wheel nuts that have been done up to a tension of 110Nm of torque or higher (most cars) even with the 8 Amp battery fitted. Don't just go off the 185Nm of torque listed in the specs and assume it will undo bolts or nuts done up to 185Nm, because it won't. If you loosen them all with a knucklebar or similar first, it may save a bit of time unscrewing them. All wheel nuts should be tensioned up with a torque wrench to prevent brake shudder developing. I've got this tool as well as the Bosch Blue large impact gun that is designed for removing wheel nuts etc., this one just doesn't have the grunt.

    • Even though they rate it at 185Nm or torque?

      • I just edited my post before you replied, you must have read my mind or I read yours :) .

    • The new GDX200C does a great job at removing nuts on passenger/SUV/4WD so far. Only thing I havent tried it on are truck/diesel wheel nuts.

      • Yes, but the 200C is about $340 for the skin only, more than twice the normal price of this tool. It is a great tool though, you get what you pay for.

  • is this deal store specific?

  • Great find. They had a similar deal going in the Tassie stores - I think it must be store specific as the one I got was the last one there and they had it for $105. As others have said the torque isn't quite as good as the numbers may state but there are a couple of people who have torqued wheel nuts to 150nm and then used this to remove them. It wasn't happy doing it, and it took about 20 seconds to get the nut undone, but it did get there eventually. In all honesty I agree with the other posters that to remove wheel nuts you're better off using a breaker bar first and then using this to remove the nut. They're still very powerful tools for the price.

The new version, the much more powerful GDX 18V-200 was launched this year so I am guessing this is just an old stock clear out.
