Is the screen on this better than the Lenovo's one

    • +4

This guy says the screen on this is dim.

This guy says the screen "sucks".

      • woah usb 3.2 gen 2 (AMD) vs TB3 (Intel)

    • +3

From what I can see online, IPS but only 225 NITS and 66% sRGB. So not great.

Also the 8GB is soldered and no slots for extra, so the 8GB is max RAM.

      • single channel 8gb ?

        choking the 4700u vega

        • It still crushed the Intel version in every benchmark (CPU, graphics, file manipulation and battery life).

          Keep getting destroyed Intel lol

      • I'd take 66% over 45%

        • +1

          It's the same cause one 66%srgb =45%ntsc

  • How did you get that price? It's showing as $1113.17 for me.

    • +2

      Showing $985 for me

    • If was advertised when I searched. Still right here on my screen: https://imgur.com/a/olELsh7

When you go to check out gst gets added.

      • +2

You'll need to checkout and get to the final step because the GST is calculated there

Generally speaking, you should also pay in USD, use a fee-free card (e.g HSBC Global) and use your banks conversion rate. It's better than Amazon's exchange rate.

Current rate @ HSBC is 1,098.93, Amazon is a tiny bit higher at $1113.16

      • OP I wonder how did you come across this item? I am under the impression that Amazon US no longer ships to AU directly but apparently they do on this particular item. They don't for almost all other items, how did you search which ones can be shipped? Cheers.

        • +1

If you search an item up on Amazon, you can filter by stores and some items can be shipped from Amazon US

        • I changed the store to the US and searched for "Ryzen 7" under laptops.

  • Can we buy from Amazon US.
Is there any on Amazon Australia

Anyone able to comment on build quality and longevity? I've had Acer laptops which were treated well die out of the blue after 2-3 years.

    • +2

Acer Aspire R15 owner here. Overall not bad except usual for modern laptops heavy steel hinge screwed into flimsy plastic that disintegrated after about 2 years.

    • Pretty well as long as it the survives the initial first 2 years where Acer has a higher than industry average. I think 3% higher failure rate, if your one those 92% with working a Acers your good to go for 10 years provided you do simple things to look after it.

I avoid closing the lid of the laptop where possible. You can't break the hinge if you never use it. Or I use two hands on the lid if I really have to close it.

Buy an exhaust suction fan on your laptop, upgrade your power block with a heatsink, and use active cooling on your powerblock during summer.

Yikes bandaid solutions. My one just gave out, USB stopped working and the keyboard too.

Looks like 8g ram is fixed and cannot do DIY upgrade.

    • +1

      Correct.

    • +2

Wow. Stopped me from buying it :(

      • +1

Disappointing that soldered ram and a display only covering 66% of the sRGB colour space both mar what is otherwise a well rounded laptop.

    • laptop manfacturers legit still living in 2012

At checkout adds on gst taking it to $1113

    • Aha!

    • And $49.25 Import Duty as the Item is over $1000

  • ~49WHr battery for those wondering.

  • +1

    Not very impressive.
I'm waiting for the Ryzen 4000 version of the MSI Modern 14 B4M

    • How much do you reckon it's gonna go for?

    • +2

Build quality on MSI laptops is pretty gross
