Samsung Galaxy S II - Unlocked - Only $499 + Free Shipping - Cheapest Yet

2110

I was having a look through the Herald Sun this morning and spotted this deal.
At $499.00 + Free shipping it's the cheapest I've seen this phone sell for.

I've been using the galaxy s2 for a little while now and it's a great phone and for that price it’s a real bargain.

  • Can't decide whether to get the HTC Sensation $489 or SGS2 $499. The specs and performance on the SGS2 is insane, on the other hand, the HTC Sensation has better build quality. It's sad that HTC Australia doesn't honour warranty of grey imports

    • I don't know about the HTC Sensation, but the build quality of the SGS2 is already very high.

Samsung Australia won't honour warranty of grey imports either.

    • +1

I would go SGS2 only because Im nto raelly a fan of sense roms.. CM7 ftw!

Havnt said that there is no problem with the build quality I guess depends on the person =

    • I'm lazy, but there's a comparison on GSMArena, and for me, the SGSII comes up on top.

  • +2

Would buy another one if available in white. Super sexy phone.

    • Postage is $30.

I could buy alot of accessories for $50…

  • How long does shipping take?

  • Can you someone please clarify when is it better to buy outright?
I looked at BYO Virgin plans VS SG2 Virgin plans, and it seems it'd be better to buy this through a plan.

If i bought outright, it looks like my BYO post-paid pridce would be worse.
    What am I not considering?

      I'm on a $17.99 TPG plan with $500 worth of calls - I think.

$500 / 24 month standard contract = $20.80 per month for the handset.

It would work out to be around $39 a month with 2gig of data - pretty hard deal to match IMO. Plus there is no contract with TPG.

  • How to confirm whether the price includes GST or not?

    • it won't.

  • ordered Monday afternoon. Still no confirmation the phone has been shipped

    • yeah monday morning for me and nothing yet

    • Monday afternoon too. what are the chances of getting it delivered by Friday ?

  • +2

I got a galaxy s and a galaxy SII both when they were released and love both. The SII is a freaking beast.

  • Can anyone confirm their order and is there still stock? I don't want to buy it and find out they have no stock left.

  • I rang them this morning and they confirmed that they do have stock at the moment in their hong kong warehouse

    • awesome thanks for the heads up!

    • did they say when are they shipping it out?
they have stock =/= they gonna ship it to you now!

      • they said they usually ship in 3 working days

  • Anyone received an update on their purchase yet?

    • I would like to know too. Hopefully it's not a deal like SS one!?

  • ordered on monday noon, still waiting for tracking number….

  • Woo ordered Monday morning and apparently it's at home! Didn't even get tracking!
Too bad I'm still at uni super excited :D

    • Nice one. Hey - did you get a tax receipt with GST? I'm heading overseas soon and contemplating GST claim, but a few posts above says no GST? Thanks

      • There is no GST on it. The item is imported and under $1000 so no other duties such as GST are applied.

        • Ok. Thanks.

  • Ordered on monday evening and nothing yet so far

  • I ordered Monday night and haven't got any tracking details, but I've read comments on another site I'm on (and even in the SGS2 reviews on Kogan's own site) about people receiving their phones 4 days after ordering and then getting the tracking email the day after it arrived. Postage is too quick for their own email system? LOL

    iPhone 5 anyone? :)

    fantastic deal
    with A$300 giftcard for A$ 225
    SAVE A$ 75 —> making total A$424.. EPIC!!!!

    • that is awesome! where can i get the gift card?

      • You can buy the gift cards on Kogan's website, but the new ones can't be used until after Dec 25th (they are advertised as Xmas gift cards). If you're happy to wait 2 months to buy a new phone, there will no doubt be some even better pricing as Nexus and other Android 4.0 phones will be widely available on the market by then.

        • wow. too bad it can only be used after december. do you happen to know if the xmas gift cards are only sold for a limited time? meaning is there any chance that you can buy these cards in december?

        • +1

          @safwanc
Not sure as they don't seem to list an expiry for the offer anywhere.
I saw Kogan write this response when someone asked the same question on their Facebook page.
"It's a limited time, though we don't know the exact end date - it's best to hurry if you want that deal! Yes, you can add cash to buy something more than the value of the gift certificate."

    • risky as hell though

  • Still no sight of my phone, or a tracking number. Has anyone received their order?

    • nothing

    • Myself and 4 friends all bought this deal. The 2 that ordered early on the Monday have had their phones delivered, but the other 2 and myself that ordered on Monday afternoon are still waiting to even get our tracking email :( I know it's only just been a week but I'm a little disappointed Kogan haven't even replied to my email politely asking for an update. They seem to be fairly active with replying on their Facebook page, so I might ask on there what's happening.

      • I ordered mine at 12noon exactly….it seems i'm also in the slow group. A friend who ordered an iPad on the same day received it on Thursday.

        • I'm a bit annoyed now. I just got a response to my email to Kogan - they have said mine "has now been prepared and should leave our warehouse shortly. Delivery should take 3-5 business days". So it's been 7 days and they still haven't even given it to the courier yet? Then a few minutes later I got a reply to a message I left on Facebook saying their system says it's already been despatched and to check my spam folder for the tracking email? Which one is correct?
What's weird also is there are posts on Whirlpool from people who ordered theirs on Tuesday and Wednesday last week, and they arrived today? Mine ordered 2 days earlier than that is in limbo somewhere.

        • xlr8 …. Thanks for the update.

Yeah, this is looking increasingly dodgy, or at the very least highly unprofessional.

They still haven't replied to my email requesting shipping confirmation.

          Pathetic.

  • Just received an email from Kogansales that my order has been prepared for dispatch and is waiting for the courier (ordered Monday afternoon)

  • I ordered mine on monday night around 8.30pm ish and still no sign of the phone nor a tracking number

  • From reading through whirlpool, looks like there are been a monumental stuff-up with the addressing of phones purchased afternoonish last Monday, with an increasing number of customers reporting their DHL tracking reference reports the phone has been "returned to sender".

Seems people who purchased before this time, or the following day have all but received their consignments now.

    • Just received my consignment number…..the phone is still in HK. Brilliant Stuff. Not.

So much for 3 day shipping. Kogan = Never again.

      • I just got my tracking number and it says its being loaded onto a plane at the moment

        • You're lucky, mine says no such consignment.

      • Lots of people suddenly seem to be getting their emails today (not me though!). Kogan claimed it was just an issue with the emailing system sending out the notifications, but the fact the tracking shows the phones all haven't left HK yet tells me they actually didn't have stock and oversold big time. More stock has now arrived so they are busted clearing the backlog.
Not happy at all myself - after the email yesterday saying it was still in their warehouse, then a few minutes later the Facebook reply saying it had already been dispatched, and now 24hrs later I STILL don't have a tracking email, the goodwill they built up with the superfast shipping on my DSLR has gone out the window on this deal.

        • Unimpressive stuff….all we can hope now is to receive the phone by the weekend.

        • +1

Kogan have now posted on their Facebook page claiming there were issues with international flights coming in to Australia as the reason for the delay (are they seriously resorting to blaming Qantas? LOL). Funny how so many other SGS2 packages purchased early Monday, and on Tuesday and Wednesday still managed to get through. Geez even the stuff I bought from other HK and UK sellers on Monday and Wednesday arrived Friday and today. I don't know what really happened but their excuses are quite lacking.
I don't care if things get delayed … sometimes things happen … but I don't like the way they just sat back quietly leaving buyers in the dark well beyond the 3 day shipping mark instead of proactively contacting the buyers affected just saying there was a small issue and delivery will take an few extra days.
I was going to be buying a Canon 10-22mm lens off them in 2 weeks time, but I think I'll search out some alternative sellers after this debacle.

  • So, I'm definitely sold on this phone, but not on Kogan.
How long have people been waiting for this phone to arrive?

Edit: After looking through this thread, and the WP thread, Kogan just lost a sale to Mobicity. Mainly because of their crappy support.

I hope they read these threads.

  • I got my tracking email yesterday and now it is starting Hong Kong - Hong Kong, returned to shipper. I don't think I'll be seeing it anytime soon :(

    • Just called DHL …. they have confirmed that the parcel has not left HK, and is being returned to sender today. Likely cause customs declarations or address details have been incorrectly filled.

Forget about receiving it this week. :(

      • It's almost like Kogan have merged with Shopping Square LOL

        • Oh well, live and learn. Will never be back to Kogan.

Even the screen protectors and case a purchased from a HK seller on eBay (and shipped by standard post) arrived on Monday.

  • Anyone keen on getting a refund ? im certainly thinking about it.. id rather pay the extra $100 from mobicity and get it shipped out in less than a week

After a back and forth email exchange with Kogan where they just kept copying and pasting the same statement over and over, I got sick of it and said:
Me: "I’ve read the statement already but I just need a clear concise answer here without the politically correct speak. Has my package left your warehouse or not? Simple Yes or No is all I need here.
If the answer is no, then while I would be disappointed, at least I know it won’t be delivered this week and can stop waiting for delivery and get on with my week."

I got this as the reply:

Kenny from Kogan: "The item has not been dispatched yet. This will happen within the next few days and you will receive the tracking number via email"

Early to middle of next week looks like the best I can hope for. It's crap service, but at least I can go out and do stuff over the weekend now instead of thinking I might miss the courier.

    • Staggering stuff……If only I purchased the phone trough eBay….I'd be negging them to oblivion.

That said, their Kogan Facebook Wall certainly isn't portraying a pretty picture of the company at the moment.

      http://www.facebook.com/kogan?sk=wall

  • received a new dispatch email with Fedex and that it is currently in transit with an ETA of Friday this week

    • Good timing. I just got one too from Kogan, but sending by DHL. I'm eagerly awaiting the status to change to returned to shipper so I can feel like one of the gang LOL

      • I've also graduated to Fedex!

The parcel is still at LANTAU ISLAND HK (the island near the near the airport)… so it's still yet to leave the country…a bit nerve racking!

  • Ordered mine last Thursday and still no confirmation, 2 emails sent but no reply, called today and given a very vague answer that it will be shipped shortly. The service desk people need a lot to learn. I guess in the end they are just like any other shonk on Ebay.

  • First time buyer from Kogan.

Ordered mine on Wed 26/October. Was patiently waiting for an email from Kogan. Nothing. Emailed Kogan today Thur 03/Nov. Got a response after 12 hours from Warwick. Not a very customer service oriented email. Just a link to the DHL tracking site:

1 Shipment information received HONG KONG – HONG KONG (No time, No date)

No dispatch information. No transit information. Pathetic.

I've requested cancellation of the order, and a refund. Prefer to spend my $499 elsewhere. Man, Kogan never again.

  • Phone has finally arrived! (ordered Last Monday 24th).

    • ash2000 plugs phone into charger and finds it DOA LOL
Glad to hear yours has finally turned up. Mine has arrived in Brisbane (via DHL) and just finished clearance. May see it this arvo provided the 3rd party couriers they use on the ground get a hurry on it.

      • LOL, arrived safely packed in a DHL bag, and then a FedEx Bag! And yes it works!

  • received mine too via fedex (ordered monday).. well worth the wait! im in brisbane too xlr8, hope you get it soon

    • Well my package had been on the couriers truck since Midday, and still no delivery by 5.50pm. Suddenly got an update from DHL come through saying "Address information needed. Contact DHL"
Called them up and the driver claims he couldn't find my address and all drivers have now knocked off for the weekend so I won't get it until Monday!!!
Bloody DHL lives up to their reputation yet again! A Google search immediately finds numerous complaints about DHL drivers claiming people weren't home or invalid addresses. I live on a very well known street and suburb with a clear address marker.
The case is more like the driver wanted to get to the pub to start his weekend so he just knocked off and screw the owners of whatever packages were still on the truck. Fuming!

      • What a bummer …. I think your spot on with the Courier/friday thing, I've been screwed over in the same way before.

Anyway, only 2 more sleeps and it will all be over! This is a damn fast phone….appears to run about 500% faster than my old 800mhz android….worth the wait, but Kogan will need to offer something exceptional for me to take the plunge again.

        • After I arced up they told me that if I come to their depot today between 8am and noon I can collect it myself. It's a royal PITA to do that 'cause I finish a 12hr shift at 7am and start again at 7pm, but I'm taking that option 'cause I don't trust DHL to even deliver it on Monday. Packages have been known to disappear in their hands, especially those that have been floating around all weekend and clearly say "I am a Samsung Galaxy phone" on the declaration paperwork.

        • Well, does it work?!!

        • +1

After nearly falling asleep in DHL's waiting room I finally got it. They said they would leave it out the front desk for collection, but sure enough that was garbage and I had to wait while the lady went looking for in in the warehouse (25mins). What was very interesting was the number of people waiting with me when they opened at 8am. When the number of us reached 8, one guy asked how many were there 'cause the courier said they couldn't find their house. SEVEN of us, all in suburbs around mine said Yes, so we all agreed that the driver knocked off early on Friday. One woman said there are only 3 houses in her street LOL
The woman on the front desk was shocked and said she'd let the boss know about it.
Anyway, I got the phone and I'm hugely impressed! Lightning fast, and I've already installed about 25 apps. My phone appears to be from the UK. Has Android 2.3.4 loaded.
