same as this one last week?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/554878

    pretty nice watch

    • +2

This one has a Blue Dial, but the Black Dial is also the same price.

      • +1

you could get both last time too

    • +1

Some links towards the bottom of that thread of wrist shot photos from a few that got them last week.

Those photos show it looks very nice in the wild, so was enough to push me over the line this time ;-).

      • Almost had a heart attack when I saw this come up. Initially thought it was the Seiko I paid $400 for last month!

        • Shard, no not the Seiko Presage :-).

Any feedback on how many seconds this Citizen loses or gains daily?

          • +1

@opposablethumbs: I don't wear these two as dailies, they're dress watches to me.

Wore the Citizen out the other night, kept time for the evening :D.

  • +1

Thanks bought the black for an upcoming 60th. Cheers.

  • Is this good as a daily driver? I'm not at all familiar here but I want to buy a decent watch to wear around.

    • +5

Perfect watch as a daily. Very light because it's titanium and sapphire crystal which is more scratch proof than mineral or hardlex. Go for it if you like the look of the dial.

      • +3

Note if you're not sure how automatic watches work - it doesn't have a long battery life like quartz watches and you will need to wear it almost daily to keep it charged. But otherwise a pretty nice automatic watch for the price.

        • +3

That's not true. The autos I have you can wear for 8hrs, say a typical workday, and they will run for say 40-50hrs so you can wear it Friday night and it should be still going on Sunday night, barely.

You can also buy stuff like watches powered by the Powermatic 80, which as the name implies, runs for 80hrs.

          • @tonyjzx: if I wear it M-F office hours and not wear it at all over the weekend, would it still be fine come Monday morning?
This would be my use case

            • +1

@daft009: If you could wear it a bit of Saturday afternoon, then should be golden for when the working week swings around again :-).

However, it should be noted that automatic watches are not as accurate as quartz and even have a bit of variation for how many seconds they lose/gain on any day. This will depend on how much/what kind of movement they get and even the position they are stored in, when not on the wrist.

            • +3

@daft009: The movement is a Miyota 8210 which has a reported power reserve of 45 hours. So if you took it off Friday night I think it would be dead come Monday morning.

This watch has a see through case back but it is one ugly mf movement. Plus the movement is notorious for having a stutter in the second hand which may drive you nuts if you are slightly OCD about your watches.

For the price though, for a titanium watch with sapphire there are definitely pros compared to the cons.

              • +1

                @martygeeoz: thanks guys..
                you saved me money ;)

              • +2

@martygeeoz: For anyone curious, the 8210 has manual winding but no hacking seconds.

      • +2

Titanium is lighter but is less scratch resistant than steel.

      • Thanks, ended up buying this! Hope this doesn't start an expensive hobby haha

        • +4

          It will. You're doomed. Sorry.

        • +1

          I used to have just 1 watch…after ozb, I have 8 now :-(

  • +6

Wow it really does look like a Seiko Presage watch - with better materials used. Sapphire glass and titanium automatic watch for $249. If you were ever curious about automatic watches, go for it! This is a bargain.

    • +1

Does indeed. I've had my eye on the Presage but could never justify the price with the materials.

Also given that I wear a Garmin daily these days, I vowed to never buy another watch again however after looking at this watch for an hour I finally caved in. Can't beat the style and value.

  • I'm still deliberating.. damn money is tight at the minute

    • There’s always deals on star buy

  • According to this listing, case thickness is 12mm. That sounds a bit too chunky. Is it possible to get something thinner with similar price and specs?

    • +1

12mm is pretty thin for an automatic watch.
You will be hard pressed to find something thinner at this price range.

My IWC Pilots is very thin at 10.8mm, but it's not comparable in specs and budget.

      • +1

Ah thanks. This reviewer measures the NJ2180-11A at 11.7mm.

Guess I'm more used to quartz watches which are thinner.

  • -2

Should be a Citizen Ecodrive powered by the sun, like 85% of the Citizen brand are

    • Not sure why it should be Eco Drive.

For those that like automatic watches, this is a cracker for the price. Plus there is positive, real world feedback in another post, from those that got this same deal last week.

If you're after Eco Drive, quartz or even other brands or styles of automatic, then quite a range of pretty decent sale prices on Starbuy's outlet page:

  • +1

Bought this on last deal and love it 😄

One this is the starburst is quite strong in sunlight so difficult to actually tell the time but it looks really nice.

YouTube how to do the links yourself it's really not that hard and save you $20-25 bucks.

  • +1

Bought one in the last deal as well.
I have never worn a regular watch before ever, and figured this was a good budget watch to jump into - in the the world of automatic watches.
Love it so far (Been wearing it for a week - 10 hrs a day @ work).

    • Any feedback on how many seconds it loses or gains daily?

      • +1

Um I haven't really taken note..or done a test, I've only set the time once though, and it still seems to be correct

      • +1

I got one from last deal, it's pretty good and light, mine gain about 10 sec a day

  • +1

Thank you! I never thought I would go out and buy myself a higher quality watch such as this, but the blue looks so nice! Ordered and excited to receive it :)

    • Nice watch too, and good value for a solar titanium with sapphire glass.

Why is it "much better" though?

There's always going to be individual differences in taste, however intrigued by your blanket statements with no explanation as to why you conclude that Eco Drive solars are inherently better than automatics from the same watchmaker.

      What's your rationale?

If not an automatic fan though, easy enough to move on and leave it to those that are.

      • I have quartz, automatic, and eco-drive [spring drive next!]

The Eco stays charged even after 6 months in the draw and keeps the best time

GREAT that the buyers have so much choice!

        • +1

I have two Super Titanium Citizen Eco Drive chronographs.

Incredible bargains when I got them and love them for the right day and use.

Have a range of other automatics, hand-winders, quartz and solar as well that are also all good watches. I enjoy and admire each for different reasons.

It's necessary to define your criteria to determine what is "much better" though and even then, that is largely subjective according to your individual taste and use.

Whilst specs for the watch you posted a link to look good on paper, aesthetically just doesn't do it for me, compared to the sunburst dial on a Seiko Presage Cocktail Time or the Citizen in this post. There are many other contenders for most accurate that leave the Eco Drive in the dust, depending on the technology and price you want to pay.

Also, be careful about 6 months in the draw. My experience with Eco Drives over many years now, is that you should keep them in ambient light most of the time, even if not wearing. When the battery goes low you are at risk of not being able to rescue them if left too long and then you have a dud that will cost more than it's worth to get a rechargeable battery replacement. Also, the 6 month claim is under best conditions. When they are significantly drained it requires a lot of time in strong light to get them back to a stage where you don't have to worry about them again for many months. If you don't get them back to completely full and leave them too low, too often then they will drain back to very low levels a lot quicker than you'd expect.

Horses for courses, but maybe entertain the idea that watch selection criteria for many here are likely to differ from what's important to you.

If you're not an automatic fan though, then why not just move onto a thread on other watch offerings e.g. Casio Edifice Eco Drive post from yesterday.
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/556928

    • Hmm, I dunno. The specs are good and I do like Eco-Drive movements, but that particular style looks very plain and ordinary to me.

      • +1

plain is good, won't look out of place as a daily

    • I think this style looks plain, but it says 'super titanium' - is that different?

      • Its meant to be a higher grade of Ti

  • Bargain for the specs for sure. Just not sure I wear something this shiny/flashy frequently enough.

  • -6

    ugly as hell

    • +1

U have no taste when it comes to style

      • -3

You mean shiny crazy diamond style ? if you are my grandpa age, or a dated business executive, ok but No thanks…

  • Missed out again, lets hope they will restock in the following days

  • I looked at that one and then I saw this..
