I think you need the price in the tile.

  • +2

It has been this price since May. I thought it was the usual price as I was comparing it to a Makita line trimmer which is $299.

    • Correct - It has been this price for months now as they try and clear old stock. Not sure why the old post was marked as expired and that it’s not referenced in this new post.
Anyway, there is a new model out with a different head with more metal/less plastic and a revised motor. This is an old promo kit from late last year that they haven’t been able to clear yet.

      • Bunnings may have these stocks but check with them first.

And yes, it is ongoing since April 2020. Same product, same price.

  • Standard comment from me on this:
Great trimmer however to remove the spool housing and re-feed the line is such a pain. They could have made this easier.

Also, new dewalt branded line is expensive

    • Agree with this. Had it since March. Spool is a pain, otherwise a good in all other regards. I use it on lower speeds which edges my Sir Walter just fine and the faster speed has a lot more breakage of line.

      • does it chop up the runners easily?

        • Mine does the runners but I find Sir Walter to become King in Summer and very very tough. It’ll cut through it, just requires more effort.

    • I have this and agree as well, spool housing is the worst part about this trimmer. Besides that it works well when all setup

    • How much line do you guys spool it up with? And so you do 2 lines separately?

      • Personally I’ll probably run 5m in to it, probably less, and use 2 lines separately.

        • Thanks. I think that's my mistake. I've only been spoiling with 1-2m and it's been a bit frustrating.
I'm sure there are better heads which can be bought separately, but if I can get 5m of line on, it won't be so bad.

@StopSpending: Yeah if you’ve only got a 1m and 15cm is out each time, 6 snaps and you’re basically through. Definitely try and get more on and don’t wind too tightly.

  • What's the "combo" part? The battery?

    • +1

"Combo kit" = Skin + 5 Ah Battery + Charger

      Think Maccas Meal Combo 😄

The DeWalt Blower @ $149 (delivered) would be a good pairing with the Trimmer.

    • one is 18V one is 54V. Can use the same battery?

      • -1

        Yep, FlexVolt:

DeWalt XR FlexVolt is the only battery on the market that can switch from 54V to 18V, making it backward-compatible with your existing XR power tools.

        • +2

Incorrect - This kit is the 18v and that blower is 54v.
          18v to 54v - no
          54v to 18v - yes

        • +1

That is a specific battery that allows 18v/54v. The ones that comes along with this trimmer is only for 18v.

        • Ah bummer.
          I stand corrected.

Admin: Please delete my incorrect statement above Re: Compatibility.

Do I need to buy a battery for this one ?
If so, which one and how much would it cost ?

      • As for this combo (Trimmer+battery+charger), then no.

But if you want to buy additional battery, depend what the size of ampere hour (Ah) you are after. Prices are various between stores.

        Ah from 2.0 to 5.0 - 18V (only Dewalt machine with 18V)
Ah from 6.0 to 12 - 54V (can use Dewalt machine with 54V and 18V as well)

Battery can last for up to 5 or 6 years depend how you look after it.

        • Plenty going for cheap on facebook market in Melbourne.

  • I need to get one .. but have read/ heard the (36/54 v?) ones are much better/ But they are quite expensive too !
Do you think this would be good enough for around 75 sqm backyard?

    • +2

I've got a small yard and this goes just fine, however it's very noticeably NOT the equivalent of a 2-stroke.

If you've got a larger yard maybe go for the bigger one.

    • This really depends on your grass. If you’re cutting thick ass Buffalo in the middle of summer you’re going to be struggling.

      • Yes.. we do have Buffalo ! So I think I should really wait for a deal on 36/54v or maybe a petrol !
        Thanks for that.

  • Is it as good as ego trimmer.

    • Loses to EGO in all the reviews I've seen.

  • Anyone spied a decent deal on flexvolt batteries?

  • I bought this in May 2020 during Bonus night (ie spend $250, get $50 credit) at Sydney Tools.

Now I got Dewalt Trimmer, chainsaw, etc etc etc.

  • Thought u would be eligible to get a free tool bag but not an eligible model
