BLAZING FAST STORAGE
Transfer massive files in seconds with the incredible speed of USB 3.2 Gen 2 on the T7 Touch. With read/write speeds of up to 1,050/1,000 MB/s, the T7 Touch is 9.5x faster than an external hard disk drive* (HDD) and twice as fast as the T5**

*Performance may vary depending on host configuration. To reach maximum read/write speeds of up to 1,050/1,000 MB/s, respectively, the host device and connection cables must support USB 3.2 Gen 2 and the UASP mode must be enabled.

        Yes.. true ozbargainer

    • Only buy if you buy one for me also.

If you feel you wont use it in the next few weeks/months, dont buy.

  • Is it much better than t5 in terms of performance?

    • Depends, on paper, yes - on the sequential read/write is getting close to USB 3.1 gen 2 max, rather than above USB 3.1 gen 1 but just enough to cover up to SATA3.

Haven't checked random read/write, but would expect it to be at least a bit better.

In real life usage, you do need to have another storage that's faster to take full advantage of it. So that means you need m.2 NVMe or Thunderbolt 3 or another one of these.

      • Yes, I agree.

    • T7 will still throttle when pushed hard. If you regularly transfer large files, it can go slow.

I don't really get the point of fingerprint security on something like this. Biometrics on a phone seem pretty unsecure, but at least you have the device on you at all times. If I had anything worth encrypting, I wouldn't use my fingerprint. Why would anyone trust this device to no break and permanently encrypt your precious files? People should be using well known solutions for this stuff, e.g. VeraCrypt (open source, has been audited), File Vault, encrypted DMGs, Bitlocker.

Placing important data on this drive and encrypting it involves these risks, possibly more:

    • The finger print reader won't break.
    • The drive itself fails.
    • That your fingerprint is somehow secure

Using a traditional encrypted image or filesystem the risks are:

    • You forget your password, rendering your files permanently encrypted. You should, however, be storing it safely in multiple secret physical locations.
    • The drive itself fails.
    • You choose a weak password.
    • All value addition, doesn't always have to make sense. Just like phones with 9 cameras…

    • Placing important data on this drive and encrypting it involves these risks, possibly more:

Placing important data only on this drive, you mean.

    • Any serious intruder can break into a house even if it is locked, but that doesn't stop people from using locks. It does stop some opportunistic offenders I guess. For more important stuff you use in-house safe, hide them somewhere less obvious, or rent a safe from a bank.Same logics here.

  • Called in to OW to try and price match but got told stock from Bing Lee and Catch are supposedly from China and have different serial number / batch (something along these lines) so cant be matched…

the SKU match 500gb/1tb/2tb at bing lee/ OW, MU-PC1T0S/WW, MU-PC500S/WW, MU-PC2T0K/WW, did you call a store or 1300 office, doesnt make sense, id try again, someone talking sh!t to you

I called my local OW and they price beat it, picked up the 1TB this morning for $255.55

    • +4

incorrect……. all have the same S/N or product codes so they are just trying to escape their EDLP clause.

    • +1

sorry that you ended up with BSworks, not OW. Have you tried again to get another guy/gal to answer your call?

    • +1

I priced matched Bing Lee with the non-touch model a couple week ago in store they did it without question. it just had to be in stock at the retailer.

Why would anyone bother paying for this? It's so expensive and there is a better way to get a much better performance. Simply buy the ASUS ROG Arion NVMe external enclosure for $93 then buy the WD black SN750 1TB NVMe ssd for $210 and now you have a read speed of 3470mps and write of 3000mps, all for $303 AU. The arion has USB 3.2 gen 2 with speeds up to 10gb/s, so i as far as i know, you wouldnt lose any performance in transfers. Let me know if im wrong.

    • So more money for less features in a try-hard looking case, but at blazing speeds that most don't need anyway?

    • +1

and not for the average consumer….

      • -2

I see it as a great investment. You get to have mibility and flexability. You can swap out the SSD and place it in your computer for an upgrade if needed or you can purchase another SSD if the first one is full of important data that you can't delete, and that comes out cheaper. It does come down to what the consumer needs, for average usage ya its good, but for optimal performance and flexability, i'd go for second option even if its $34-$47 extra. Dont forget RGB :)

Sorry, but not helpful for a lot of people. Your solution is more complicated and expensive, and won’t have any practical benefit for most.

Besides, you will NEVER get those speeds in than enclosure. A quick Google will show you that.

          I have a Sabrent Rocket 4TB in a TB3 case and it doesn’t even get past 2GB/s.

          • @Mitch889: No need to be sorry, criticism is welcome. It's my first time interacting here on this site anyways. But theoritically performance should not take a hit. I will have the parts to test it soon.

            • @anIraqi: You can’t get 3GB/s from a 10Gbps link, which maxes out at a theoretical 1.25GB/s.

That’s why all these drives are claiming just over 1GB/s, after overheads that’s basically the limit.

              • +1

@Mitch889: I did some digging, you're right about that. I was really hoping that i could reach those numbers. But i'm getting the enclosure for free and i needed the SSD anyway, so no loss there.

There is a risk that the touch button won't work properly and users will lose all data. Some people got this problem reported on Amazon. Should be very careful before having your final decision to buy this touch version.

    • +1

You can set up the password on it. I have mine set with P/W and Fingerprint, but only use fingerprint to unlock it.

    • +1

I have also read reviews that owners of the touch version complaining about a stalling issue while transferring/playing xbox game/watching video off it. It might be due to the authentication mechanism of the fingerprint reader going whacko.

  • Not sure I get the fingerprint functionality, but the T series are great. The ones I have (512GB, 1TB and 2TB T3, plus a 2TB T5) have been brilliant for video editing.

Have wanted the T7 4TB but got tired of waiting so built my own. They announced it but still isn’t out, come on Samsung!
