Hi Guys,

First time posting as a store rep.
Shopperoo.com.au is an online store created to promote Australian made products. We partnered with businesses who recently lost their business and locals who lost their jobs to manufacture face masks to bring in some cash flow for them. We are also donating $1 per face mask to Beyond Blue in their fight against depression and anxiety.
As for us OzBargainers, there's now 20% on the entire order and you will get free shipping if the order is over $35.
Note that these face masks are not of medical grade and also don't have nose wire. They are all ready to ship.
Thanks for the support.

    +1 For Aussie Made!!

  • I couldn't find any information on that website about the type of cloth. I'm assuming they are polyester.

    • good pickup and you are right.
Cotton internal layer, polyester in the middle and the outer layer is polyester mainly.
The outer layer can vary depending on the design to cotton but they are mostly polyester.
      thanks.

      • Are the materials Australian made?

  • +13

We all should support more Aussie made but $12 for a mask, really?

    • +10

Given they're washable, you'll be better off than disposable ones pretty quickly (granted the disposable ones are a different product)

      • +4

Better for the environment as well.

    • +21

seriously give them a break, aussie made, made by businesses who lost revenue and kept workers in jobs to make these masks.
at least they are trying to do good.
plenty of people paying this money to bonds and cotton on for imported masks.

      • +1

nowadays buying a meal at Maccas is the same price lol. At least this can be reusable and protect you

    • +11

I don't think I've seen much cheaper that were also made in Australia. Plus $1 goes to support a very good cause. So $12, maybe not the cheapest, seems reasonable. So I don't think it's fair to say "we all should support more Aussie made" and then complain for the cost of it being aussie made.

you are going to compare pre-covid face mask prices to now. interesting

        • Well, they weren't for sale in Australia before and the only way to get them is some international eBay US sellers. You can still buy them from taobao for the same price, which means I suppose the pre-covid part is negligible.

          Its $30 shipped from aliexpress.

      • +4

Ah yes, we should compare non Australian nor for sale in Australia pre-pandemic pricing with an Australian mask provider in the midst of a pandemic. Can't see anything wrong with that at all.

Not only for the fact it'll probably take weeks to get anything delivered internationally here compared to days for products made and shipped from Australia.

        • +1

You get your items delivered by AusPost from King St to Queen St in days, if you're lucky. You might get a free card too, if you're luckier.

    • its like around the normal price - cotton on is 10

I have a fat kid, can I get the mickey mouse one adult size?

    (I'm lying, it's for me.)

  • +5

I'll buy one just too support local manufacturing.

  • +8

Why would you make one without a nose wire ??
The particles are small enough to go through pores, and here we are giving them ample space to travel inside your mask !

    • Potentially due to the potential rust after washed multiple times?

Although….bra wire does not seem to do that after multiple wash…hm….not sure…

    • Probably if added slows down the production rate and you know what !

    • we did explore this option but as some people pointed out, we need to use a material which is rust proof. Not that it's not available but it just drives the cost up. Point taken though.

      • +3

Aluminium is flexible and rust free.

I'm not questioning the increased production costs.

        • +1

Aluminium work hardens and becomes brittle pretty quickly.

      • +3

An option is to just have a slot in them and we can insert wire off disposable ones eg. N95

Fantastic, thanks for sharing. Bought three and proud to support Aussie made.

    +1 for Aussie made

  • I'd be good to have a Size Guide (measurements) for the different sized masks: Small/Kids, Medium, Large

    For example: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/e7/5f/8f/e75f8fe240ba33878394…

  • Grabbed some adult ones but the kids hated all the kids designs, need some plain colour options for kids IMO

    • +3

Thanks for the support. That's a good insight which we will pass on the message to the team.

I went to the sale section and what a hand sanitizer with no alcohol : https://www.shopperoo.com.au/product-page/alcohol-free-insta…

My books is safety first , wonder how there masks rate ?

    • +5

Mate all surgical masks aren’t to protect ourself from Covid, it’s more so to protect others from our cough/sneeze saliva to reach others as a show of courtesy, if you want to stay safe from Covid get a P2 mask and wear rubber gloves when you go petrol station/shopping.

      • +2

        dont forget goggles

    • +1

Alcohol is not the only sanitiser.

It's just become popular opinion that alcohol should be a sanitiser in these gel type bottles.

Eucalyptus and tea tree are known anti fungal and anti bacterial agents.

      HOWEVER

This does not imply that they are effective against covid.

Saying 99.99% of germs, means that 0.01% can be covid.

Not many things that protect against covid are readily available, and should mostly be reserved for those on the frontline.

    • Benzalkonium Chloride is the key there - the majority of disinfectant products you buy at the store use it and non-alcohol sanitizing wipes will as well. While it's not the recommended formula in regards to SARS-CoV-2 (ie. not ethanol/isopropanol based) it is a recognised ingredient in hand sanitizers and while it may be less effective than alcohol when used on hands, it will be better than using nothing.

  • questions
    1. How much % goes to beyond blue?
    2. Do you hate Tasmania ? why not there in logo ?

    • +1
      1. $1 from every face mask sale goes to Beyond Blue.
      2. We don't and that's a honest mistake from our side and our front end developer. We are in the process to rectify our logo across the board.

Thanks OP :) was joking about hating tassie:)

$12 for an Australian made mask. Now I understand why all our manufacturing jobs left us.

    • +5

its reusable. Cotton on sells for same price. theirs is manufactured in China

    • -2

We'll go live over in one of those countries, I dare you.
You know, just apply at the local warehouse, you'll be able to provide for your family and purchase a property no sweat!

Actually because you support those countries and their practices, maybe you should become a citizen there, there are millions of very good hearted individuals who would love to swap you for your Australian citizenship.

It would be a win win. :)

      • -2

me pointing out obvious reasons why manufacturing left this country has nothing to do with wanting to move. Nice attempt at a straw man though.

If you're that much of a patriot, don't buy any electronics not made in Australia. Put your money where your mouth is.

We'll go live over in one of those countries

        Yes, please do.

  • Does it come in linen? I like breathable materials.

    • I'm sure the listing says somewhere on the site. I think op mentioned earlier.

  • +3

Thanks! Just purchased 6 of them.. just like to help out those who lost their jobs / businesses and also $1 going to charity and Aussie made. 👍🏻

  • +1

    Ordered 3. Thank you, Op.

  • Great initiative. Has anyone received an order yet and can vouch for quality ?

  • Hey OP, any chance you guys can make them in White, I’d like to wear them at work with my airpods as the airpods aren’t so obvious when wearing white masks/ white straps. Cheers.

Anyhow I’ll bookmark the website and keep checking every now and then.

  • These masks have no difference from a couple layers of clothes and they are only better than nothing in terms of COVID protection.

A disposable mask with a layer of non-woven fabric and nose clamp would provide way better protection and buying them from your local pharmacy is also supporting Aussie business.

So, if you are wearing a mask against COVID, buy the disposalbe ones, either surgical or N95/P2 would be good. Plus once the mask gone wet it is of no use anymore. So the reusable doesn't really protect you.

unlike others elsewhere, these can be returned - Face Masks FAQ:

Do you provide warranty on your face masks?

As we are doing our best to support local businesses, we will do our best to look after you.
If you are not happy with your face masks or there's any manufacturing defects in the first 5 days you receive them, get in touch with us on [email protected] with photos of the defects.

The team will either swap them for you or refund you depending on the case.
