  • idk if marking it as pre-order is correct or not. Sorry, but its in stock sep 6th so I'm just assuming so.

  • This headphone keeps dropping by a dollar or two within 24 hours and I have been cancelling and reordering. But of course this pushes the date even further when I kept doing this.

    • this is the 2nd lowest its ever been according to camelcamel, with the lowest being only about $15-17 cheaper.
I'd stick with them at this price.
Plus if they get any cheaper you have plenty of time to cancel and re-order again :P

Been holding out for a deal on Sennheiser HD600/XX but all these AKG and Beyer deals are giving me fomo.

    • Yeah I'm taking a dive into the audio world and the HD600/XX and AKG K712 pro were the top recommendations in my price range (About 500 USD) so I just thought, F it, diving on this deal for under $300 AUD

You can get better headphones for 500USD such as various planar magnetic.

        • 500 was the upper end of my budget.
So if I can keep it under 500 and get a great first pair of headphones then I'm happy. I can used the saved money to put towards other audio hardware in the future.

Didnt downvote you btw..dont think I can yet

    • Depends what you use them for, they all perform very different and excel in different areas.

    • Unless you are going for very sterile sound for editing/engineering purpose, the HD6xx almost always gets better reviews.

The AKG K701 was the headphone I drooled over for years as a kid. Got a K702 years later and sold it pretty much same day.

Great headphones but the reviews were spot on.

Yep - this is what I'm banking on. Thanks for helping validate my decision to hold out!

They don't sound the same though. The K712/K7xx/K702 65th anniversary sound very much different than K701/K702/Q701. Most notable difference is bass response mostly due to the memory foam earpads on the former 3.

        • The bass response isn't the issue whatsoever. It is the midrange and highs.

Over the years, I have tried the K712 pro and the Quincy Jones. The mid and high sound sig is where it is still not my cup of tea. It's not bad and it is obvious that is the intentional direction of the brand but it just doesn't do it for me.

It won't be a surprise when I tell you that my favourite HP (and one that I have owned for the longest) is the Audeze LCD 3. Not comfortable though.

Maybe I can tempt you to hold out a little longer.

I've owned these AKG712 and Beyer T90, T1 (gen1), plus many other brand/models and have sold all of them and only kept my HD6xx now. I guess you can kind of guess which was my favourite.

These are incredible competitive gaming headphone if you can power them, the sound stage is ridiculous for first person shooters and locating. Not a fan of them for music though

  • I don't understand are these on sale when in stock? I am not seeing the $297

    • Well its clearly marked as expired, so of course you aren't seeing the $297. In fact I marked it as expired about 2 hours before you made your comment.

  • Damn these go fast

    • yep, I missed the last time so I just thought I'd check today and boom.

  • Just received mine today and dissappointed that it doesn't come with any proper packaging, just posted with the product box itself only. However, item is in good condition.

  • My AKGs also arrived unpacked when slipping out. The product box was very damaged.
I think the headphones sounded ok. However, not that much better than my Sennheiser HD250 linear II (20 years old) for bass clarity, better sound stage, and a little bit more definition in the highs, however, sounded harsh at times. The DT 1990 overall sounded much better in all areas, especially with their clearly defined bass to sub bass. Unfortunately I had to send the DT 1990 back as they had a fault in the cabling, I'm waiting on a replacement.

I ended up sending the AKGs back as the product box was completely damaged. They did ask me to package the product before sending them back.
