  • This would be the other option although a little more expensive. https://www.amazon.com.au/ASUS-TUF-X570-Plus-Motherboard-Lig…

    • Was a few complains about bios being weird and the poor placement of the chipset fan behind the GPU but otherwise solid. It was a bit cheaper just last week, around the $290-$300 mark OzBargain Deal Camel Link

    • I actually have both of these (bought the Tuf when it was $298). If you plan to use the stock cpu cooler be aware the gigabyte has a really dumb fan controller that revs the fan up and down constantly (as the thermals spike for fractions of a second) unless you micro manage the fan curve. My GB mobo has a lot of whine too.

Of the 2 (ignoring other variables) I had less issues with the Asus and found it simpler to get to it's final state. The gigabyte does have a more practical antenna though.

  • No rear panel USB c? My 3 year old x370 board had one.

    • +3

How hard could it be to have one type c port on a $300+ motherboard? Unless they're deliberately leaving it out to make you buy one of the more expensive boards.

      • My point exactly.

  • Pay a tad more and get the Aorus Ultra… has usb-c front header as well.

    • But what's the benefit of usb c at the moment? The only thing with it is my phone. That won't go fast anyway.. Slow memory inside.

If my 16tb Seagate on order doesn't use it, I can't think why I'd care. We could say future proofing.. But I've had a usb c phone for years now and still nothing else.

10 usb on the back seems good.

There's plenty of point, I have multiple USB-C devices and not having USB-C on the front and back of my case is not an option. You may only have one, but plenty of other people have more.

        • What do you have? Serious Q. Deciding if I'll need it later.

          • @justtoreply: Monitors, three mobile phones in the house that are USB-C, headsets/headphones, I have a small network switch that is USB-C powered as well. I'm sure there is more. We have 4 laptops in the house that can call be charged via USB-C (two people with personal and work laptops). I'd far rather have a USB C than multiple charging blocks lying around.

      • all valid points

    • +1

This one does have a usb-c front header. Ultra does have a back usb-c but if thats your only reason to upgrade thats $140 just for that

    • +1

The $140 does get you a rear USB-C port, 1x additional NVME, Realtek 2. 5GbE LAN and AX instead of AC Wifi. All useless for me and i'd say most others as well. At just under $500 I would step up to a ROG board.

    • Aorus Pro Wifi is fine, dont need Ultra.

      • You are correct, I got ultra and pro wifi mixed up.. pro wifi is most definitely sufficient!

  • This may be a dumb question but here goes: what is the point and advantage of having a USB-C port on the back of the motherboard or on the front of the case? With the USB-A (gen 2, gen3) is a must have of course, but with a USB-C? Dunno really.
