Yeah. I am sure Sales will be up.

  • +12

…this aint a deal…just more junk & expensive junk at that.

    • +3

Ooshies are sold for $3-4 each, and here they are free with your weekly groceries. Kinda seems likes a deal.

      • +2

        Seems like one, but isn't

      • +1

What price something is sold at and what price something is bought at are very different things.

It's like saying the free esky worth $99 when you buy 2 cases of beer makes the beer free because it's sold for $99.

  • +3

Why do they dish out this junk when they used to do school earn & learn promos

Why do you need to copy Coles ?

    • +2

Because it makes them more money.

  • +12

Here we go more Plastic for our landfill!

    • My thoughts exactly. Double standards, especially given the fight to ban plastic bags.

    • Rubber, actually. Probably even worse.

  • +12

The books at Coles were way better. More environmentally sustainable and with a bit of a socially conscious initiative with getting books out, being donated, and encouraging reading. These plastic pieces of rubbish give absolutely no benefit to society. Terrible initiative.

    • Good thing they are not made out of plastic then? They are rubber eraser pencil ends which do have a purpose. Writing is just as important as reading books.
Seems like your hating something you have never even touched.

      • "The old toys will be recycled also to plastic pellets for outdoor furniture, such as garden beds, decks, fences and benches."

        • That's like making something completely useless but consolation - if someone can be bothered recycling the completely useless thing, we will turn it into something useful.

      • +1

Writing is just as important as reading books

        Seems like your hating something

        The irony

    • +8

The Woolworths seeds were good, too.

They perhaps taught some kids where food comes from, how to nurture a living thing, and so on.

Heck, I'm still harvesting lettuce from the ones I planted.

These consumerist pieces of plastic rubbish are a disappointing sequel.

  • +12

They are educational. I look forward to many weeks of ooshies being stolen at school. Many great lessons there; your fellow students may be thieves, don't bring stuff to school you don't want stolen, your teacher isn't really interested in your loss.

    • Jokes on you, only stealing in our house is by other family members!

    • Learning to trade, ‘value’ of rare and in demand.
Life lesson that these ‘valuable’ items will be forgotten in a few months.
Best lesson is forgo these collectables -> convert to cash and buy what they want.
Lion king ooshies came to a $500 profit last year

    • dont forget jealousy, betrayal and broken friendships

  • +1

Not sure we need more reminders on this “promotion”… btw, where is the “bargain”?

    • +4

Well ooshies are a product sold at stores and have a price. Here they are free.

      • Thanks…

        sigh

        • what if i start posting happy meal deals with toys 😛

  • +6

Finally a GOOD reason to live in Melbourne at present…. They wont be here !!! #sorrynotsorrykids

    • +2

I was just about to comment the exact same thing!!!

  • +5

Yay. More shit for the landfill.

Why do we bother with recycling and banning plastic bags?

Maybe I'll spend my Sunday buying some engine oil to water the local Creek then look for some fish that I can throw the bottle at.

    • +2

Do they have the 3 eyed fish Ooshie?

    • At the fish will be floating motionlessly at the top. Easy target.

  • +5

Shit like this just drives up the prices for groceries, which we all have to pay for, even if we don't have kids.

    • +2

At least it's not as bad as the 90's when everything came with something. Chips coming with tazo's and other collectible cards, cereals with a toy/cd/novelty spoon, cheese and spreads coming with cards, stickers and glasses, those plastic buildable paddlepop sticks, etc.

  • +4

I don't think we live in a world where only tiny rubber toys end up in landfill, as opposed to, say, pretty much everything in your house…

  • +3

    what a waste of resources.

  • +2

    More stupid crap.

At least the books by Coles prompts reading.

What are these things meant to do?

    • +4

My five year old son has a little box full from past promotions. He often gets them out and counts and sorts them. We even spoke about probability. Sometimes he has pretend shops selling them. I know there are plenty of other things he could use for basic Arithmetic rather than bringing in more plastic junk but he really got a kick out of them. And we haven’t tossed any out (yet!).

  • +1

Yeah go back to those seeds woolies. Less junk please.

Props to half the people here for hating on junk!

  • +7

So they want to give us stupid pieces of plastic toy rubbish… Even after getting rid of the free bags. How about give us a bag for every $30 we spend? I'd rather that.

    • +4

Don't take it then. You're not being forced to have it.

      • -2

I think you missed my point. My point is about the fact that they stopped giving free plastic bags, then give us this option for plastic junk.

But from what you said, anyone who doesn't take them, is still paying for it. Better to give people 20c off every $30 we spend.

        • Sell them on eBay, and probably get more than 20c.

    • yeah i rather the bags, that way i can use them as bin liners too and still end ups at the tip

  • Not a bargain?

  • +2

For adults, these plastic toys are junk, but for the kids the toys are fun. Like footy cards, they bring to school, swap / bargain /negotiate….. For those without kids, don't take it.

  • +1

    wondering why VIC is excluded

    • Covid

      • doesn't mean you are not allowed to go to Woolies.
supply chain is still bringing the food as well so why not these toys

        • I think they are just trying to minimise any possible contact/interaction between customers & staffs in VIC. Normally when customers want to redeem their freebies, they have to talk to a staff and let them check their receipt then collect the freebies.

  • Here we go again…

  • +7

    All this negativity.
My kids love these. They still have all the collectables from previous promotions both coles and woolworths. They have had hours of playtime with them, learnt so much from them. The food ones have tought them to try different types of foods. They learnt the concept of sharing, bartering and acknowledging that it is OK if you do not end of with the whole set..amoung other things
Teach your kids to look after things and it wont end up in landfill.
The best was growing up and collecting collectables. And if you kept them all these years im sure its worth something to someone.
Dont like it, dont take it and dont complain about it.

  • World suffers from pandemic. Solution: plastic junk.

    • Don’t forget disposable face masks too.

      • +1

So much litter around lately, heaps of it is masks and wipes but also people just using the excuse of covid to dump their junk out the window I guess

  • -1

    Anything to post a 'deal'

Want a deal, post how to get extra ones easier.

  • What happened to Woolies being the more environmentally conscious ones?
At least Coles seems to have (finally) learnt.

Seems a bit of a hypocritical thing to say "look at all this good we're doing and waste we are minimising" and then have a promotion like this.

To those saying "just recycle them" you do realise things can't get infinitely recycled and it takes more resources to turn this junk into something else. What's going to happen to the last series? Suddenly they're ditched because kids want the new ones. This is the wrong message to be sending kids - a consumerist society in which things are quickly obsolescent and there's no environmental implications as long as you recycle.

    • +1

It's really weird considering recycling decisions on deals considering there are free calenders/postcards that are widely upvoted and the process of removing ink from paper uses quite a bit of water and the chemicals that arise.
Then there are all the small items from China, samples, stickers, etc. that all have packaging and shipping materials. Plus whatever method is used to deliver them to your house.

      • Yeah I do get what you are saying which is a good point but you can't exactly just use last year's calendar again.
There's nothing wrong with last year's little shop or Ooshies besides the supermarkets saying "your ones are old now, pester your parents into buying these new ones for you".

        • I think it's better they're continuing Disney Ooshies/Little Shop instead of something new since they'll compliment the characters/items you have getting a bit more play out of them.

However if they re-release the same items I get the argument.

  • With the votes on this post, there is a clearly 2 groups from the empire vs rebels

  • So what do we get in Melbourne

    • You already answered your own question.

    • Rona

  • +1

Great - something for kids to be trading in schools and brining home to their families. COVID magnets?

  • +2

Trash. What happened to the little plants they were giving away? That was a nice campaign.

    • Yes it was a nice idea and to learn too, but most people didn’t get emotional over it vs competitive collecting.

As we can see, it brings out the best side of people.

  • Great deal
    Lots of fun for kids

  • +1

Cool now I can shop a woolworths like I want and sell the ooshies on eBay to buy the little books I actually want for my kids on eBay. Win win :)

Did I just read that Victoria isn't going to get them?that sounds ridiculous we have the little book's we're allowed to go to the shops not like we can trade with anyone probably less chance of infection here.

  • +2

    Garbage - literally.

  • -1

Junk! Free does not necessarily constitute a deal.

  • Karens love these

I also look forward to the constant whinging about these in buy sell swap pages soon

    • ZomgWtfBbq

where have i heard that before

  • -2

Pay for plastic bag, get free plastic crap. No thanks…

  • +1

Just more junk for the landfill.

  • +1

Well that's sucks, the books in Coles are available in vic, why did WW exclude Vic. What a rip off. my kids love playing with them. Aldi it is.

    • "Woolies said the launch of Disney+ Ooshie collection is postponed in Victoria until the lockdown is lifted. Hicks said in a statement the company will focus on operations and supplying customers with essentials during the restrictions and roll out the new collectables once it is safe."

  • +1

Except Vic. Well (profanity) you too Woolies.

  • +1

    so on another Plastic point..

How many of you complaining about these toys/landfill that give the kids some excitement and fun in this dark time of bush fires, hail storms, and now Covid,
    appropriately dispose of your plastics…

do you, like us, collect your soft plastic and other suitable items,
i.e bread bags, chip packets, other suitable items etc and then return them to Coles or Woolies to their soft plastics recycle bin to recycle?
If not, then perhaps you need to start or stop bashing these giveaways that give kids some enjoyment.
While im thinking about it, im surprised that during this Covid thing, our local still has the soft plastics recycle bin out.

The Coles books while a better idea were way too small, something slightly larger would have been better
Yes the Woolies seeds was a good idea.

And yes these two ideas is the most appropriate way forward, but also just think, Woolies probably had this current promo locked in last year.

  • Any limit on the bonus ooshie btw?

Like the current offering due to star wars and avengers, but I wouldn't consider this as a deal.. We're literally paying woolies to buy toy for us 😂

  • +1

Coles little books are just too little to be excited about..

    • -1

Tried reading them to my kid's, they're terrible books.

  • So any limits on bonus ooshies per transaction? Any woolies worker might be able to shed some light on this?

    • +1

5 per brand as per faq

  • Why all the negativity ? No one is forcing you to take it. You are given the option for a free toy if you spend over $30. It would be a double standard if those same ozbargainers negging this are the same people who will happily register for free samples contributing to transport global warming packaging etc .

  • For those actually collecting the Ooshies, you can maximise Ooshies earned by purchasing 5 product from each participating brands (and spending over $30) in one transaction.

    For example:

    • 5x Danone Products = 5 Bonus
    • 5x Pauls Products = 5 Bonus
    • 5x Devondale Products = 5 Bonus
    • 5x Fancy Feast Products = 5 Bonus

Will net you 20 Bonus Ooshies + Regular Ooshies earned for every $30.

    • Do you know if that bonus up to 5 per brand is just for the first week?

  • I was going to do a larger spent today to get the Energizer batteries but because of these will lower the spend and increase tomorrow when these babies are available .
Woolies has set up a recycle plan for the haters if you bother studying it on the catalog .
But I guess its token with what % ( my guess is less than 1 % ) of people are going to use a ooshie recycle bin located at each Woolies lol .

  • I bought a few hundred grams of D'orsogna shaved ham and received a bonus Ooshie. I suppose you could buy a minimum amount (in weight) of D'orsogna Deli products in the $30+ transaction to get the bonus Ooshies per individual product purchased.

  • scored the 'rare' mandalorian glitter ooshie today….what do i do with it???
