    reviews are horrible.

Well it's not like you're life depends on them. Oh wait…

      • +4

If you're trying to save YOUR life by wearing them you need to go back to google friend.

        • +8

No, you do. Wearing a mask decreases the chances of catching COVID. Not as much as an infected person wearing one, but it still helps.

Masks should be mandatory nation wide because when both uninfected and infected wear masks, chances of transmission is next to none. But unfortunately people are too ignorant/selfish/arrogant/cheap/stupid to wear them.

          • +2

@PainToad: Anything will help decrease, even these. Rogerwilco was talking about your life depending on them. If your life is depending on them, source a different product or stay home. These, or even surgical masks at triple the price are not intended to 'save' anyone from transmission. They're simple an aid for reduction.

            • @dmbminaret: Anyone’s life can be ended by COVID. Wearing a mask isn’t the only precaution I’m taking. I haven’t set foot in a shop, restaurant or cafe in months.

It has the bonus of forcing you to save money.

            • +2

@dmbminaret: Pretty much.. people see N95 surgical mask and think I'm protected now. No one talks about respirators and why a perfect seal is needed for any kind of effective protection. Why? Because these things are expensive, look scary and making them available for everyone would be a challenge.

            • +1

@dmbminaret: Precisely. AND there is no evidence I've found which suggests this is true:

when both uninfected and infected wear masks, chances of transmission is next to none.

          • -2

            @PainToad:

Interesting. Where did you get this info, I'd like to read the analysis? If it was that simple why hasn't any country adopted mandatory mask wearing I wonder? If this is just your opinion please state that clearly because there is FAR too much misinformation being spread about Covid-19 already. QAnon nutters (extreme example obviously) are already trying to spread fear with ridiculous misinformation about potential vaccines.

There is anecdotal evidence that widespread mask wearing helps reduce transmission but no-one appears to be claiming what you have. There's a lot of talk about aerosol but whether that's a major agent is still contested.

Masks SEEM to work by limiting the amount of carrier mouth and nasal "discharge" (into the air, onto their own hands and faces, onto other surfaces) and by discouraging carriers and others from touching their faces. From my reading plenty of experts believe that it's still more likely that transmission occurs from touching things, poor management of infected materials (inducing masks), and lack of sanitizing.

            • @[Deactivated]: This graphic sums it up best.

              https://www.gannawarra.vic.gov.au/News-Media/Wear-a-mask-and…

Pretty much.. people see N95 surgical mask and think I'm protected now.

I certainly don't think that at all. A mask is a last line of defence (that isn't that effective, but better than nothing). The best defence is avoiding interacting with people unless absolutely necessary - which is when I wear a mask because it's all I can do.

              • -2

@PainToad: That graphic is irresponsible because it misleads people like you, although it is attempting to show oral transmission ONLY.

I didn't mention N95 masks, although since you've picked up the fact that I voted for it I'm happy to say I agree with vash5's comment totally.

I broadly agree with your comments, but I strongy disagree with your conclusion about mask wearing being a panacea. It ignores expert and health advice regarding Covid-19 transmission agents, the need to sanitize, and reasons for same. In short, its dangerous bs

You must be running out of negs, unless it's my new multiple nic stalker.

                • @[Deactivated]:

although it is attempting to show oral transmission ONLY.

What else is there? I wear disposable gloves when touching any community surfaces that I absolutely have to (eg. petrol station pump). I leave my groceries sit for a week in a create before touching them and I wipe down fridge/freezer products with bleach mixture before putting them away.

Airborne/droplets are they only thing I can't control, but masks help.

btw, I'm not the one negging you.

                  • @PainToad: What else is there? I hope you're kidding.

Your own practices appear to be sound assuming you're in a Covid-29 hotspot, but very few people wear disposable gloves. The point about gloves is that they protect the wearer to some extent (as long as you don't touch your face while wearing them) but are potential transmission agents themslves. That's why the public shouldn't be reassured by supermarket and other workers wearing them. In rare circunstances Covid-19 could be passed from their gloves to you or the products. Small likelihood esp in no-infected regions but for high-risk people that is an issue.

Thanks for the neg advice. I have a stalker with multiple nics, hence numerous negs to use. Likely him but who knows.

I’m not. I wear gloves to protect me. Others wearing gloves achieves nothing for my protection. Just takes them touching their face/phone/clothes to contaminate their gloves.

                      • @PainToad: Agree. Btw I've emailed that council to ask them to put a warning under that last graphic. It's misleading and unhelpful.

            • @[Deactivated]: If it was that simple why hasn't any country adopted mandatory mask wearing I wonder?

              wait what? is that sarcasm

mandatory mask wearing and wearing your mask properly is 2 things though
in an ideal country and like melbourne if every person wore it properly and kept to the rules, spread would be limited

when people wear a mask because its the law and not to reduce it - they wont wear it properly or treat it properly

              • +1

@astarman: Not sarcasm, it was an obvious comment in the context. Masks are just one part of a multi-faceted approach to transmission limitation. Educated conjecture is that they're effective because asymptomatic carriers in close contact with others are less likely to share their germs AND people in general are less likely to touch their faces (hand to mouth/nose/eye is believed to be the more likely cause of transmission at this point.)

Most people get the mask/hand sanitizing/social distancing warnings even if security guards at hotels containing quarantined people didn't. A number of selfish and self-centred b's probably do understand but simply don't give a fig about the risk to others. Unfortunately that's society for ya.

    • +2

So which ones should we order?

      • Assuming you're not in close contact with a carrier, pretty much any mask with all of the following:
        (1) 3 layers; (2) a melt-blown middle layer (as a test the mask should be resistant to water passing through); (3) a metal strip to aid sealing around the nose.

For a better fit follow these instructions if possible: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TTg53aAP8Q&t=21s&fbclid=IwA…

It's equally/more important to sanitize your hands regularly, esp after handling your mask once you've worn it for a while. Masks are mainly to reduce infection spread by asymptomatic carriers.

It's way past time that Ozbargain removed anonymous negging, esp wrt deals involving Covid-19 products. I understand that some people don't have the nous to argue a point but there is no reason why they should be able to hide behind the anonymity of negging, esp when we have general anonymity already AND we have users with multiple logins.

        • huh? There's no way of negging anonymously. You have to leave a comment in order to neg.

          • +1

@dynamike: To neg a deal yes, to neg a comment, no.

    • +1

at least they don't say that they have FDA approved or Korean made HAHAHA

      • Yeah I bought one from ebay saying Korean k94 mask, made in Korea blabla.. paid $65 for 25 masks. i was dumb enough to believe that. When I got masks the quality was shit like hell but I desperately needed any masks for work at that time so end up decided to keep it.. I realise that all the other products the seller was selling were Chinese rubbishes after. Fake origin must be punished! :(

      • +1

at least they don't say that they have FDA approved or Korean made HAHAHA

This is now my "guide": Appendix A: Authorized Imported, Non-NIOSH Approved Respirators Manufactured in China

        • Man, people can fake an FDA certificate in a sec

        • Hi Crazybuyer!

I just want to let you know that our product is on FDA's website.

          Establishment Name: SAEROM COSMETICS CO.,LTD.
          Product Code: LYU
          Owner/Operator Number: 10077231

          Hope this clarifies the situation!

          • @BYECOVID: Where's the link and what does it say about the quality of this product? I'm betting NOTHING.

William Klein… More like R.M. Calvin

  • Bought these few weeks back. They do have a little paper with stamps and approvals thrown in if that makes anyone feel better.
The 50 pack comes in sealed bag and when you open it and use a mask straight away, they have this weired smell to them.
I left the bag open to air them out and they seem to be ok now.
The ear straps snap off very easily.
Over all 5 out of 10.
Remember, you get what you pay for most of the times, unless it's a price error ;)

    • -1

But wholesale price of masks is like ten dollars

      • +1

Probably more like $2 per box of 50

  • +1

$17 now. Still pretty good. I paid over $20.

    • The discount was applied at checkout - I just got them for $15.30 p/box

  • +1

I rather pay abit more to get premium mask frlm Vietnam.

  • +1

    Is William, Calvin's brother?

    • Yeah, but cheaper.

      • So are these masks made out of denim? should be washable 😁

    • +1

      Nah, Uncle.

  • Anyone can advice if this comes in a box or in plastic bag?

    • +1

      Plastic bag in a box.

  • Anyone able to compare this mask quality to this one? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/549734

    • Amazon reviews say you don't even get the advertised product.

  • The Amazon reviews quite literally say it's a bait and switch, and you get no-name brand Chinese masks. Fake product.

  • Just beware you are buying cheap quality masks and they are a generic chinese brand and not what is being advertised.

I would throw caution to the wind.

  • +1

Bought these before. It's pure bait and switch. You get a completely different product (different box). Mask doesn't really feel like fabric, but more like it has some kind of plastic (sounds like plastic) in the middle.

    • +1

I think one of the layer is supposed to be like plastic.

      • The middle layer shouldn't be plastic-like (making a plastic crunchy sound when I touch it - which sounds wrong). It should be BFE95 (Melt Blown Filter) which is a type of HEPA filter material. It shouldn't be making any plastic-like crunchy sounds when you touch it. This mask is also a bit stiffer compared to other masks. With other masks, it wraps around the face easier.

I've used other disposable mask brands before (like the ones from Chemist Warehouse or the ones I got from work), and the experience is totally different. Wraps around face better and doesn't make plastic-like sound.

I suspect this mask uses some cheap plastic material in the middle instead of proper BFE95 material.

      • +1

Yes melt blown fabric mid-layer is preferable but it isn't and shouldn't sound like plastic.

This might help but it's a bit late after you've bought. The whole mask industry needs a good shakeout and Chinese "fakes" exposed. Oh and the TGA needs a kick up the @ imo

Edit - didn't see your response plasmoske, sorry. Agree completely, likely a cheap and nasty facsimile.
