  • This phone reviewed well back then, it's like 2 years old now?

    • +1

Yes, mate 40 is around the corner, therefore this is a 2 yrs old but still a good deal. Should be able to upgrade to Android 11

      • -5

Huawei phones don't get anymore android updates from what I know. Otherwise, Huawei phones are amazing

        • not 100% sure yet. anyway android 11 would be the most, and p30 pro/mate 20 pro are the last models to get it if it will happen.
honestly that does not make a lot difference. mate 20 pro/ p30 pro are android 9 out of box, even without the ban, android 11 is the max. if people do get android 11, then they do not miss anything.
on the other hand, is there a big difference between the current android 10 and 11? not much for 95% of users. by saying that, even huawei can not push android 11 to these phones, it is not that big deal at all. people still play games, listen music, watch videos, all other apps work like a charm.

        • +3

Can voucher this phone gets the most recent Android 10 security patch, level 1 June 20.

          • +2

@aucheese: yes got updated to EMUI 10.1 last week and will receive Android 11 by the end of this year.

        • +1

I have this phone and received the latest update to EMUI 10.1 a week ago

    • +5

      Still loving mine!

    • +12

The screen got cracked on my Mate 20 Pro, so I "upgraded" to the S20+ about a month ago. My takeaways:

      • No discernible difference in speed (I don't play games)
      • I honestly find the camera to be far superior on the Mate 20 Pro in most scenarios, especially portraits and focussing in general
      • Cleaner UI for me and not as much bloatware
      • There's nothing the Chinese now know about me that 5 Eyes and Google don't already πŸ˜„
      • I will concede that there are things I love about the Samsung, like Dex, QR scanning from camera (helpful during covid!), great gestures etc.
      • +2

My 20pro can project to my hisense wirelessly and I can use desktop mode, Dex still needs an adapter, so Dex may not be better.

  • +2

Would pull the trigger if it got dual SIMs.

  • It's been this price for a while. They should discount it further to get rid of the last few.

    • Yeah i got mine after reading that deal. They would not discount it for me though.

  • +1

same price as a pixel 4a.

    • -3

But the Pixel 4a is a budget pos.

      • +1

It is a budget phone, but it is still an amazing phone which can put up some real competition against flapships

It's a proper value for money phone

  • +1

    This or my S10+?

  • -6

Most likely not Android Auto compatible. So no thanks.

    • +6

Android auto works fine. Not sure where you got this info from.

      • Mate 10 Pro doesn't work with Android Auto. Maybe it works now?

  • +1

Went from an S8 to this and boy is it amazing, battery, screen, performance and Android 10 it updated to really loving it so far and super easy to transfer data wirelessly from my old one came with a case and just ordered some glass screen protectors off eBay.

The Android 10 update almost has that Samsung icon skin theme which is really enjoy too

    • +4

I've got the Mate 20 and it's still amazing. Still runs a likes flagship that was released today. 10/10 phone.

Yet another Huawei phone on sale…

  • Was $497.00, then $549.00, then $599.00 from domayne last week

    • +2

      497 is reasonable

    • This was $547 last week on Domayne so there may be room for negotiation in store.

  • +9

Best phone I've ever owned. I'm sure I've had it 18 months or so now.

  • +3

Bought this the last time HN had this on sale. Best phone I've had & the battery on this phone amazing.

    • +2

Crazy good battery life, it's insane!

  • +2

    I own the mate 20X.
Best phone i have ever owned. Its just this phone but with a 7.2 inch screen. The biggest phone screen you can buy.

    • Same! Amazing phone. The curves on the pro put me off, so glad it led me to finding the X.

      • Where can i buy the Mate 20X?

        • Probably Giztop, I believe production of the 4g version has ended and the 5g is quite pricey. Giztop have the Chinese version of the 4g.
          https://www.giztop.com/huawei-mate-20-x.html

          • @stinkydog: dont wanna pay 1.8k as on amazon thanks

Where and how much did you get yours?

            Is giztop reputable, thanks?

            • @[Deactivated]: Woah that is crazy money! Could get a black shark 3 pro for that much!
Got mine from Giztop, they said they installed the global Rom but all they did was install google play which one can install themselves.
All google stuff works except for the voice assistant/ok google. There have been changes in the latest.
I believe I paid about 720aud including delivery, a case and mpen. Signing up to the newsletter gave me a code for a measly discount of 3% or less.

              • @stinkydog: so it was an open box?? How do you know it wasnt second hand?

                • +1

@[Deactivated]: Well that's a good point! Was my fault for asking them to install this none existent global rom.
Also, the blue color landed up being purple, perhaps why it was cheaper in the first place.
I read that many companies are refurbishing and doing an amazing job of shrink wrapping etc., I have no idea how to tell if they had done a refurb.

    • +1

      7.2”

      Phablet Obesity?

  • +2

Agree with the others about how great this phone is. I got it a year ago on a JB HiFi deal and was looking at what else is out there now that i'm off contract but i can't see any reason to 'upgrade'. It' is still comparable to other high end phones, battery still goes well over a day. If the xiaomi mi 10 ultra was available i'd consider that.

  • +2

Had mine for a year now. Still getting updates, Had one last week. Not sure if i'd pay $600 for it now. Would jump at it for $500 or less.

  • +1

Have mate 20 not pro, bought for $599 over a year ago, great phone, amazing battery life, still going strong like new

  • +1

Bought it new for family member close to its release. Damn good phone and camera setup. Still going strong, not a personal fan the massive notch though.

  • -2

I am afraid of buying a Huawei phone as Trump will send a ACE gunner if I buy one from Huawei.

  • +1

Great phone, I really love the new software upgrade, so I can have one app on top another. I listen to music/youtube and have browse OZbargain at the same time.

  • +1

I've had this phone for almost 2 years, great phone for $1,200, absolute bargain for $600. Awesome camera, awesome battery, no issues with Android/Google. Always thinking about upgrading, but its still working like when i first got it.

  • Still using mine that i bought at release. It's pretty great, buttery smooth, and gestures have spoilt me. Back camera is really amazing, front camera is mediocre and disappointing as it's fixed focus. For what it's worth, i am going to be sending it in for repairs soon due to screen burn issues.

  • Still using mine except I left it on the roof and drove off, smashing the screen, still works fine except for the face sensor, the only downer for this phone is there is no included screen protector and due to the curved screen it's hard to find a good one.

If your not like me and be careful it's still an amazing phone, the biggest thing it has over the competition is a more expensive lithium polymer battery which will last much longer than a normal LIPO and the camera is amazing.

I have the optus version which includes the google newsfeed thing, I got the global version for my mum which doesn't but is dual sim.

    • Did you have any issue with green tinge on screen?

      • Nah, that was only the very first batch AFAIK.

        • Chees

  • If your going to buy a new phone and you depend on it alot it is a wise idea to buy only phones that have battery case offerings.

  • Had this for 18 months. I can confirm that this is fantastic phone. Unless you're completely hung up on getting a 5G phone it's as good as anything currently out there. For $599 it's a steal.

  • This, Galaxy S10 or Pixel 4a?

  • Used this 2 years ago it’s a very good phone. Groundbreaking camera at the time.

  • +1

This phone is the bomb. Photos are superior in the same environment as my friends iphones. Extremely happy.

  • This or the Oppo Reno 5G? They're similar priced both at HN

  • I've had mine for 20 months and still love it. When I first got it I was easily getting 2 days of battery life. Now… I'm ONLY getting one day πŸ˜….

Such a shame the newer Huaweis don't have Google.

  • What's better this or the HUAWEI P30 Smartphone going for $597?
