😭 must resist and wait for 70 piece

    • 70 piece was up yesterday I missed too.

    • Same, waiting for 70 piece local stock.

  • +1

Thanks. Got 1. The 70 piece wasn’t free delivery so that sealed the deal for me

  • Has anyone got one of these? I'm curious about the quality. I was given a Makita set many years ago and was disappointed with how quickly the sharp bits blunted and the smaller ones snapped. I expected better from a name-brand like that, but when you're selling a large amount in a kit quality is likely to suffer.

    • Hmmm…here's one comment from yesterday that suggests they aren't very good. I need something that's a step up from occasional DIY.

With any of these big kits, quality can be pretty average. But they definitely have a value. I got a 100-ish piece set years ago that I actually use all the time. For anything I do regularly, like a regular phillips head bit or a bit to drill for a standard screw, I've paid more for something OK (still not very much money), but for all of the little bits and pieces I will only ever use once, I have it, and it's ready to go.

For example, the other day, I was taking apart a transport box that I got from the side of the road, and for some reason it had square head screws. Straight to the kit and I had the right bit - never used in ten years, but it was there when I needed it.

There was circle cutters in my kit, which have been occasionally handy - they're crap, but if I need to cut one circle it gets the job done.

Same. I have a handful of high quality bits that I use most of the time, and the bits in these kits are virtually disposable. Great value for what they are.

Oh, not much you can do about them getting blunt but if you try not to get them too hot or bend them then the chance of them snapping is way reduced.

          • @PlasticSpaceman: Dip tip in oil before use for longevity.

          • @PlasticSpaceman: You sound like a true Tim the Toolman! Of course nothing beats top notch quality tools, but sometimes… Just gotta know how to treat the tools you've got to work with ;)

    • I have one of these. It is ok for beginners (to learn why quality drill bits are expensive!), drill bits are very basic quality.

    • Thanks for all the replies. I've already got a basic el-cheapo set that will do in a pinch, but I'm about to have a house built on a property soon and I foresee I'll be doing a lot of work both inside and outside, hence why I want something of better-than-average quality.

Use the cheap set. The things that wear out and or break will most likely be the ones you are using the most, so just replace them with better quality ones….. if you absolutely know you'll be using something in particular (say, 2mm drill bit) then get a good quality one of those to begin with as not only will it likely last longer but it will also likely be easier and faster to use.

        • What is considered a good quality one? Is there a specific brand or material I should look out for? Thanks

          • @Alex10: Go to Bunnings. The ones that are more expensive are good quality. ..

Dewalt is probably the best (not sure if Bunnings sells them). Or something with titanium or cobalt.

43 piece is also on sale for $21, it loses the masonry bits but gains a few other bits* and bobs.

  • Shows $73? Am I missing anything?

    • +1

thats for the 70 piece set. The OP deal was a 50 piece set. checked the website and it is no longer up from what i can see.

    • That's the 103-piece set. I guess 50-piece is out of stock.

  • +1

Thanks OP. I need this for some basic DIY around the house. I was meant to buy it last week but laziness got the better of me. Thankfully it worked out and i put the rest saved towards a sander which i also need for another project.

  • Not Available

  • Dang it. Keeping missing these.

    • Same thing kept happening to me, that's why I set up an price alert on CCC.
