When you can rely on Instinct, the world can rely on you. This rugged, reliable outdoor GPS watch is built for thermal, shock and water resistance (rated to 100 meters). The fiber-reinforced polymer case adds strength and durability, and the chemically-strengthened, scratch-resistant display is high-contrast enough to read in bright sunlight, so you can take it with you into the extremes you face every day. Plus, the fully vented silicone bands include two independent, removable keeper loops to ensure a secure fit and to keep you from getting caught on things.

Thats a ton of watch for $250. Gotta be the best you can do for $250

    • Scores really well on the versus website. I have a Suunto 5 which only scores like 55 and this instinct watch scored 85…..beating some of the older more expensive Garmins too!

  • Can you put a link to the other colours please.

For an extra $100 you can get the Garmin Forerunner 935, which is much higher spec (colour display, connect IQ, better battery etc.). Not as rugged as the Garmin Instinct though.

    • During the last sale, I was choosing between Gamin Instinct, Garmin 245 music and Garmin 935. I chose 935 and so far very happy with it. Battery lasted 3 weeks on first full charge.

I got the Instinct Graphite about a year ago.
I loved my gshocks and it's got that sort of styling. Solid watch, really robust, light and wearable everyday. The only faults I have is that I don't get VO2 max from the stats and it's a bit tricky on pool swimming.
I considered the 935 as mentioned above but it was an older watch, and the Instinct outperformed it in DC Rainmakers comparisons and in smartwatch capability.
The instinct is the best all round watch, good for hiking too, really suits multi sport fans, esp anyone considering their first tri.
Only recommendation I'd make is buy a little screen protector as scratching the screen would be devastating.

    • Have you got a link to that? I can't think of anything the instinct has that the 935 hasn't, and the 935 definitely has stuff the instinct hasn't, like connect IQ support for additional apps and watch faces and widgets. The 935 was still a current model when the instinct came out, so it isn't that dated.
The DC rainmaker review for the instinct mentions it has a lot of the 935s capabilities for about half the price, which made it a good deal, but when the 935 is only $100 more it looks pretty good.

I got a good deal on the 935 and only paid what the instinct price was at the time. Very happy with it, and have not needed a screen protector ( I suspect the screen will outlast the battery by a long shot).

      • Display. Instinct wins big on always on (no backlight) visibility, despite twice lower resolution. I bought both Instinct and FR645, had both for a week, returned FR645 because of display.

        • 935 is also always on and only needs backlight at night, I'd have thought the 645 was too. Can always put a monochrome hi contrast watchface on if you have trouble seeing it in dim light.

          • @md333: you really have to see both in real life. Contrast is stark.

    • I am still using my Suunto Vertical 3, its going strong. I keep looking at the Garmins though. Any feedback on the new solar Garmins ? from my initial read it seemed a little gimmicky ? in that it doesn't give much extended battery time, always my biggest complaint.

      • Solar Instinct = Old Instinct + new GPS and HR hardware. Half power consumption. Solar charging is not a thing.

Got the sea foam for the superior battery life. Going to use it for Strava

    • I got the flame red
