Definitely not worth paying that much for a 2060s when a) we are so close to the 3000s and b) that's 2070s territory price wise.

    • -6

Your point is valid to an extent.. But the 3000 series isn't going to be anywhere near those prices. When they release. Going to be much, much higher! and it's a Strix OC model. So they're always more expensive than stock based reference cards and 3rd party cards with not as high clocks. My 2060s hits 1920mhz out of the box. So was well worth the $789 price tag.. lol.
But yes.. Each to their own, my friend.. each to their own! ;)

      • +13

Wouldn't a Galax 2070s have been a much better value buy at $750ish? Sure its a higher tier card but at the end of the day its still a entry 2060s RTX peformance for $200 more.

        • -4

I was looking at the 2070s Galax's but the build quality was garbage..

So i justified the Asus Strix 2060s 8g OC model. Cuz I just wanted something to carry me over, for the next few months.. While I decide on upgrading the rest of my computer components instead of forking out $1,500 to $2,000 on a card that, like the 2080S or TI to use in my current build, which is not going to take advantage of a higher end card .

Anyways.. diverging off the deal here. Don't worry about what I used my money on .. Just concentrate on the deal that has been posted..haha

          • +11

@Filster83: How is the build quality of galax garbage? It's one of the highest regarded GPUs in Singapore.

A galax 2070S will still dominate a (pick your brand) 2060S.

            • +4

@Frayin: Yeah, as a previous GALAX owner can vouch for good build quality, they benchmark decently in their class, and mine had good temps and fan speed/noise

But Asus Strix make fantastic cards. Great AIBs. But $$$, would need to be very patient for a deal to make for a value argument

          • +2

@Filster83: Are you sure the Galax 2070S is garbage? I just looked it up and it looks similar to my Galax 2080TI (SG Edition). This 2080TI is flawless and I would have no problems recommending it, and this is someone who came from a MSI Sea Hawk!

It's amazing to me that you think NVIDIA is going to price themselves completely out of their usual segments with the 3000 series. The 3090 is a halo product, the rest won't stray far from the usual price points, perhaps even drop.

1950 out of the box is standard, I'm guessing you had your card toggled to its quiet mode.

      • AND????

Exactly. Just going to leave this here for the xx70/xx80 crowd:

      Just. wait. one. week.

    2060S @ $800!

Man I've forgotten how bad it is to be stuck on the Nvidia train.

I got Red Devil 5700 XT for close to $600. Looks to benchmark similar to 2070S. Crushes 1440p 144Hz is all I know.

    • +2

      No ray tracing though

      • +31

        I want 144 not 14 fps

        • Well isn't playing at 1440p to improve visual, and with and without ray tracing is night and day

          • +5

@ln28909: If a poorly optimized game (Ubisoft) fails to give me >100fps on my 1440p, I'll move over to native 1080p.

I'm not killing my frames for RT either. I'll re-assess that in another 2 gens…

            • @muwu: Also.. DLSS 2.0… SO there's that..

I was playing Control the other night without it. And everything at High settings and getting 58fps .. With it DLSS 2.0.. getting 75-80 fps.. and still get all that RAY Tracing Glory.. It's impressive. Regardless

              • +1

                @Filster83: Yep, DLSS is a +

Don't mind missing out on this when the value for RDNA1 is so good

              • +1

@Filster83: Yea sure RT is great on the literal handful of games it supports. It's hard to sell a whole generation on a benefit that is only a benefit to 5 games. As miracle above said, sure in 1-2 generations it might be widespread enough to have a real impact, but right now its really not even part of the question.

I'll give Nvidia that they are much more stable and reliable than AMD (though i've had no issues with my 5700XT personally), but RT is really not a selling point of this generation with the lack luster library of supported games.

          • @ln28909: Ray tracing does not exist in reality in the sub $1000 price bracket.
Just because it's listed as a feature does not make it useful or useable.

      • +3

2000 series also doesn't have ray tracing, in a practical sense.

    • I said close to $800. Not $800 exactly.. But I hear ya ! :)

Waiting to see what RDNA 2 is like, when it's out.. That's why I just went for 2060s initially .. Just to hold me over while 3000 and RDNA 2 release and prices are revealed.
Then i'll reassess the market again.. Once it's matured a bit and maybe, Jump ship to the Red team..

    • +1

Resell is phenomenal though. I bought my 1080ti for $1010 and I can sell mine now for ~$800. Like I had this thing for 2+yrs…..

      • +3

I paid $680 for 2070s in November, I sold it for $800 recently.

        • Good buy for the Nvidia

      • You're right, that's a +

You could argue the lower buy-in for Radeon and Freesync, when comparing to the Nvidia tax on GeForce and G-Sync, balances against the lower resell…

I prioritize what I'm using now (and the next few years) over what someone else will pay later. I tend to do well on the used market anyway as a seller 😉

      • Bought my strix 1070 in June 2017 for $560, sold on ebay the other day for $435

    • +1

It's times like these I kinda regret buying a monitor with a Gsync module in it.

      • +2

to be fair 'gsync compatible' isnt the same as 'gsync'

        • +3

I mentioned that in a post about a monitor that is “compatible” and got downvoted into oblivion.

  • isn't this Windforce series has thermal issue?

    • I've had a 2070s gigabyte, zero heat issues

  • I take it PLE know these cards won't be worth squat after Tuesday night.

    • What is happening on tuesday?

      • 3000 series nvidia cards announced

  • 3080 price expectation is $799 us dollar. 3070 would be $599 US and its performance might be similar with 2080ti. It is time to sell 20X0 cards on gumtree.

    • +6

800 USD more like gonna be 1.5-2k AUD when it releases in AUS.

      • +3

        Don't forget GST

        • Thanks John

      • It's not going to be cheap, but also they are coming into a different market than 2 years ago.

The good times were rolling in 2018, and if you wanted a stable high-tier card out of the box, green didn't have much competition.

With AMD now pushing frame rates on a maturing platform, and RT largely a gimmick at current gen, pricing a 3080 towards $2k at this point would be fairly detrimental to NV's share in a market that is increasingly focusing on the value equation, similar to the CPU platform war.

        • +1

If the leaked pricing is true then I agree a 3080 at 2K is unlikely but it still won't be as cheap as this.

As to the market, what do you thinks changed?

I see people are still buying 2070's/2080s/2080Ti's even with this prices. Hell people are paying $1750 for second hand 2080Ti cards last week and $700+ for second hand 1080Ti's…a 4 year old card!! Despite covid, despite the sky high prices Nvidia still sold plenty of video cards and made more profits in this segment over the last quarter and that's with all of AMD's value offerings today.

Every generation everyone gets hyped up that AMD is gonna come in and knock Nvidia off their perch and it rarely ever materialises. Even if they do, Nvidia have higher profit margins to just slash prices or pull their favourite rabbit out of the hat - S/Ti variants.

          • +2

@Osiris: Not this time..back then AMDs stock was $1.70 a share.. it's at $80 a share today thanks to Zen CPUs and the have money to pump into their GPU RND so moving forward we are going to see much stronger showings from AMD… Also RDNA2 has more IPC then NVIDIAs cards.. so they are starting off on a really good base Chip thanks to all that sweet help and RND money from Sony and Microsoft they have developed something that rivals NVIDIAs. Best.

Why do you think NVIDIA is coming out with a 380w TDP 3090 space heater … Lol.. because they are scared of losing and have pushed the 3000 series way past the standard 250w max TDP they set themselves on the 1000 and 2000 series Cards.

Even the 3080 is 320w.. lol. Wow

  • +3

    SMH :/

  • A couple of things, most importantly, who is buying a 20 series GPU when the 30 series is days away? If you've not heard which is fair mostly only enthusiasts know, early next month they'll be 30 series cards, that's the basis once they are reviewed, to judge their price to performance, to then know if this is a good deal or not.

Secondly, a 2070 Super is so close in performance, don't see it making sense to spend $200 for that extra tiny bit of performance, personally. So I would check out price/performance for a 2070 S, recalculate to the price that it is, then evaluate the performance of say a 3060 or 3070, and it's relative costs, then you'll know if the 2070 S at $900 is a good deal. My guess is it won't be. Not to mention RDNA 2 in late October/early November

    • +1

A number of folks are aware the new GPUs are around the corner.

The issue is that the leaks have been revealed as true, as confimred by nvidia and board makers' announcements such as memory, power consumption and release period. Only leaks not confirmed -and more than likely true- are the prices, which are astronomical. This has left many around the world disheartened and thus some taking advantage of current gen sales as they have no hope of affording next gen.

Entry level next gen will be $400 US for 3060. Thats about 600AU without factoring in taxes and markups.

      • +1

And you can sure bet the tax will be enormous. That $400 US price tag will be at least $699-$749 AUD imo after tax and markups.

    • OP will probably struggle to get back half the money he paid for the 2060s lol; with people dumping all their 2xxx cards.
