Nice price but wth are you going to do with 1000w PSU

    • +2

surely the next Intel CPUs will need 500watts or so :)

Power a PC, and be happy that the PSU fan isn't making a shit ton of noise because the PSU isn't running at or near its capacity.

I have a 1200RMx shift here - its good to have some headroom

    • Isn't the 5090 supposed to use 2x 12vhpwr? This PSU only has 1 so technically it's not enough.

  • Paid $278 last year. Works well great psu

Will NVIDIA change the GPU power connector again in next generation?

    • Change the power connector? Aren't they standard 8-pin PCI-E power sockets?

      • +3

Starting from the 40 series (this current generation) they changes the socket to PCI 5.0 16-pin 12VHPWR connector.

        • Shit, had no idea (I'm on 3090's). Means upgrading would be even more expensive. Can we still do the paperclip trick to use multiple PSUs and plug the them into the GPU via this new port?

@idonotknowwhy: I've got an ax1000 that i got second hand running a 4080 super. works fine, you can just buy a 12VHPWR cable and it slots straight into the standard 6 pin ports on the PSU. it just takes up 2-4 ports on it. Cable isn't expensive, cablemod triple socket ones are only $35, same as the double socket Corsair cable on Amazon.

It's a Corsair power supply it's going to be good, I have the 750W version, just a word of caution, case compatibility.

Look at the power support shroud, where it screws in, etc, and ensure that the right side isn't blocked. Pcpartpicker doesn't check this on it's compatibility because it's unconventional, some cases you'll be perfectly fine and others, you'll need to resort to a dremel if you want it to fit (ask me how I know).

When you find that bending your 5090's 12VHPWR power connector alone is not enough thrills, now you can bend every single PCIe, SATA, CPU and motherboard power connector by 90 degrees as well and set them all on fire.

There is a reason why the 2001 RM1000x still sells for more than the newer RM1000x Shift.

  • Which side the connectors are located? Not sure if I can flip it upside down since my case doesn't have much room on left side (facing the power cable socket at the rear)

    • Connectors faces the back side panel of the case (right)
